I mean IPFS was that solution to me for a while tbh. Even then libp2p like peertube uses and matrix offer some exciting examples into the future.

fruitycoder ,

Yeah the fear mongering works. I was getting cease and dissits, BT traffic blocked, etc when I was using to get public domain content back in 2000 something. Now every that does it talks about how to do it safely. Use a VPS in a non-five eyes country with Tor enabled and logging disabled, download to your tails desktop and sneaker net to main machine, from there use media server to host it in your network, blah blah blah

Or use duck duck go and click through a dozen links and stream it.

Heck even peertube users get flak from governments because it could be seen as "redistribution".

P2P is almost always a better for user technology, but centralization is favored by governments for control and corporations for rent seeking.

fruitycoder ,

I feel like it goes with the law and order cadence too lol

fruitycoder ,

I don't think the plan is to sell it but to be able make accept payments of good and services in it.

fruitycoder ,

When everyone else lays down there arms too I'll lay down mine too.

fruitycoder ,

I really want them, from a tech stand point, to be a thing, but no doubt on the reliability issue.

The better design I've see is something like RFID in the hands that reads on the grip of the gun. Biometrics are not a good idea for any system that needs that level of reliableility.
The other thing is I would want it to a trigger well replacement not a constant check (I.e. once unlocked it stays unlocked untill deliberately locked again).

fruitycoder ,

I don't think I would trust it in a reactive shoot circumstance either to be honest. I'm also not too worried about a pretty advanced cyber threat of someone both actvily attacking an RFID chip (a programable definetly adds added complexity factor to me too) and getting my firearm. Its more so if someone broke into my house and took my firearm they would have added difficulty using it or if someone is in my house, kids, guests, etc and they get ahold of it there is one added layer of safety.

fruitycoder ,

I've been following them! It'll be interesting for sure to see what comes out.

They are popular in the biohacker community with one girl I know with like a dozen sheusees for street magic.

If you can get them added and removed at home its less scary I think.

fruitycoder ,

To prepare for peace one must prepare for war. I have no delusions that I am some secret spec ops action hero, its more that me and other citizens be8ng armed changed the calculus for people that would want to oppress us.

fruitycoder ,

It happened in the Ukrainian revolution, the police were sweeping the streets beating people with batons, some protesters we fighting back with rubble, but when they managed to get the guns the police were using on the crowd things changed dramatically.

In my personal experience whether not a place had armed citizens changed how cautious police were in that area, they may push and fuck with people they thought they could but were more likely to be trying negotiate with people on more equal footing as them.

No doubt there are other methods of oppression then men with guns and batons marching in the streets and fighting those require different tools and tactics.

fruitycoder ,

That feels like a CIA Chicago school question less DoD.

fruitycoder ,

The first and second amendments are seen as the cornor stone rights for sure in the US. They enable and protect each other and other rights played out in the constitution.

fruitycoder ,

His rant on Mozilla's "We need to do more than deplatforming" was my last straw. He raked them over the coals for a title and never read a word from the article.

I'm pro FOSS, and pro gun. I just can't stand people that do no effort and use there platforms to sow division though.

fruitycoder ,

Crazy, I saw a lot in the shotgun realm for 3d printing slugs and shot and sabot shells, but nothing else yet. I'll have to do some digging. Honestly moving away from lead sounds great to me.

fruitycoder ,

If could in the future predict the future and comments accordingly that would be preferred thank you /s

fruitycoder ,

Back in the day the shit shovel ak was a popular guide.

fruitycoder ,

The good news is you could use the RAG model to get the papers related to your search.

fruitycoder ,

I think a centralized view of knowledge that Wikipedia provides is great, plus the record of changes and discussions help capture some of the nuances people are aiming for.

That said where this really accelerates is when bias is wanted. For example the Arch wiki vs Debian wiki vs Wikipedia all SHOULD have biases that cater to their specific audience, even if there is obvious overlap.

Interestingly use of wikidata could help create aknowlledge graph associating parts of the fediwikiverse and we might be able to see a dream of mine ; dynamic knowledge content. Where I might be an expert in databases so I can get the condensed version of how postgres but get the beginners version of kubernetes on an article about deploying them together

fruitycoder ,

They have avatars linked to ETH NFTs. They also have a crypto tip system in some sub's.

fruitycoder ,

If the Chinese government believed that why do they ban so many US apps in their country?

fruitycoder ,

Sustemd is modular though, you don't have to use every subsystem. The base init system and service manager is very comprehensive for sure.

fruitycoder ,

Abstraction seems like the next step for them after the underlying systems mature out.

UK Trial: Pornhub's Chatbot Halts Millions from Accessing Child Abuse Content (www.wired.com)

A trial program conducted by Pornhub in collaboration with UK-based child protection organizations aimed to deter users from searching for child abuse material (CSAM) on its website. Whenever CSAM-related terms were searched, a warning message and a chatbot appeared, directing users to support services. The trial reported a...

fruitycoder ,

How is this building that?

Like I'm a privacy but and very against surveillance, but this doesn't seem to be that. It is a model that seems like could even be deployed to more privacy friendly sites (PH is not that).

fruitycoder ,

But how does this at all enable anything to worry about?

fruitycoder ,

They already have this data, they already used AI over it, they already sell it. Thats their business model.

I agree that's an issue, but its not specific to this nor is this dependent on this.

fruitycoder ,

forced to work in a Windows infrastructure

My condolences. I hope you find some relief in the future

fruitycoder ,

Typically you have main and guest to isolate them
You also have different networks for different bands because they use different radios (2.4GH and 5GH) with both having tradeoffs of range and speed.
Some have triband as well so that you can isolate high performance devices because every device on a network increases latency slightly, and more so a radio only support one broadcast method at a time and will downgrade its self to the least common dominator for the devices connected to it.

fruitycoder ,

Oh what? Dope.

fruitycoder ,

Propaganda doesn't work on me, I'm too smart, too independent, to principled. Man, why do I have such a craving for <insert fastfood chain here> all of a sudden. /s

Honestly its amazing that people think that corporations are giving hand over fist for advertising that DOESN'T influence people. Or that states are just running massive operations because they thought it might worth it.

fruitycoder ,

Stadia was neither open enough to excite nerds and build a tech community nor polished or straightforward enough to go straight to pure consumers (notpowersuserss).

That's my take at least

fruitycoder ,

Stick to open standard stuff. Retooling sticks and they hope to tar you in those services so you find yourself paying

fruitycoder ,

For sure! I see a lot of value in conferences and retreats for that purpose. Personally though hybrid was so much worse than full remote. As soon as we went hybrid people just went totally dark from the rest. I would come in every few nounths and having to catch the cubical jockies up to speed on what the rest of the world was up to. Also way too much gossip in office sometimes.

Hybrid also led to a bunch of duplicate tracking of work. Jira, emails, chats, in person conversations, in person meetings, white boards, Visios, PowerPoint's, etc all to talk to different people to say the same things.

It was also a generally dysfunctional place to work but some of it was introduce with RTO.

fruitycoder ,

Do you have any numbers to back this up? My understanding is this is a very eurocentric truth, but I don't actually know the state of messaging apps in Asia, south america, or central and southern Africa.

fruitycoder ,

Heck yeah, unions have been consistently denied proper access as an important actor in the free trade of the world.

fruitycoder ,

Does send meet what you need?

I remember using it for the self expiring feature. It also is built to use e2e so the sever only handles encrypted data.
I am not sure on the others though.

fruitycoder ,

DRM will always be a difficult on untrusted devices. I think signal has some options to restrict it

fruitycoder ,

We really need to get the kids to stop programming with punch cards. /s

fruitycoder ,

I haven't heard of local ordinances myself, but I have heard of HOAs fighting them.

X is becoming a 'ghost town' of bots as AI-generated spam content floods the internet — A sign of the scale is the thriving industry in bot-making (www.abc.net.au)

X is becoming a 'ghost town' of bots as AI-generated spam content floods the internet — A sign of the scale is the thriving industry in bot-making::The internet is filling up with machine-generated "zombie content" designed to game algorithms and scam humans. Experts call it the "great AI flood".

fruitycoder ,

Most of the left winging people they talk to tell them to kts and their SO is cucking them right now, and that they duck their cousins.
You can't judge the world off the worst of online comments and DMs. Its the selective feed of the worst humanity has to offer to maximise your engagement not a random sampling of the vox populi it pretends to be.

fruitycoder ,

I honestly appreciate not letting the real harms these policies cause slide just because they are polite about it. No disagreement there.

I've seen it too though, I had a mentor I really looked up to be unhinged after the recent shift in politics and say truley vile things to me I dared imply the "dear leader" might have made a mistake. So no doubt they exist and unfortunately its more than its ever been. Just saying a lot of the reason IMHO as to why people have been more vile is clearly the effect of these out rage bubbles.

Focusing on talking to Conservatives that are open to ideas and mean well matter too, that's who can actuallybeconvincedd.

Nintendo is suing the makers of the Switch emulator Yuzu, claims 'There is no lawful way to use Yuzu' (www.pcgamer.com)

Nintendo is suing the makers of the Switch emulator Yuzu, claims 'There is no lawful way to use Yuzu'::Nintendo of America is suing the maker of the Nintendo Switch emulator Yuzu, saying it "unlawfully circumvents the technological measures" that prevent Switch games from being played on othe

fruitycoder ,

I wonder if creating a test game and key would work. I.e. make a game you know works on the switch, then sign a new version just for yuzu.

Still it would be bullshit hurdle put up

fruitycoder ,

They were already making some good work in the field before but they trended away from it.

Honestly it just seems like they struggle with follow through.

fruitycoder ,

I know about the funding problem, but what do you mean on the kitagation piece?

fruitycoder ,

First lie wins then after that the most interesting one

So if you do something wrong say you did something else worse and make every spend their time fighting that first story

fruitycoder ,

Thanks for the info! Agreed that one seems to be trying to actually value add on top of its base.
