Anybody who buys one of those vehicles is someone who sucks also. Fuck em all.

lukecooperatus ,

I think you need to take a break and get some perspective.

Besides, the Twitter link was already posted by the OP, why would it need to be posted again?

lukecooperatus ,

Hillary won the popular vote in 2016 by a nearly 3 million vote margin, I don't think you need to feel any regret over your one vote going to someone else you actually wanted to vote for.

Also, even if she'd lost the popular vote too, it ain't the voters fault that the DNC keeps deliberately sabotaging the good candidates in their primaries to give us turds.

lukecooperatus ,

That's kind of a circular logic though; the DNC alienates voters who don't like their blessed candidates. If they didn't do that, and more leftist candidates like Sanders were welcomed, then the "average Democrat" might look a bit different.

Still want to add a few bits of info to it, but I'm pretty happy with the dashboard for my kitchen display that sits on top of the fridge where I can see it from the living room as well:

Uses the excellent LCARS theme by th3jesta via HACS.

Almost everything shown is just standard markdown cards, with minor tweaks by card-mod, with the exception of the 2 weather widgets shown (also via HACS):

I don't even have an EV and I have to see the ads on the chargers because they're in front of the store I'm walking into. So far, I've only noticed that at grocery stores, but it's annoying.

lukecooperatus ,

Windows 11 is technically still Windows 10, if you go by the actual version reported by the systeminfo command. For example, my fully updated Windows 11 Pro VM reports itself as OS Version: 10.0.22631, so there might still be something to the idea that "Windows 10 is the last version" but the marketing and branding teams didn't stay on the same message.

Google Allows Creditors to Brick Your Phone (lemmy.world)

I installed NetGuard about a month ago and blocked all internet to apps, unless they're on a whitelist. No notifications from this particular system app (that can't be disabled) until recently when it started making internet connection requests to google servers. Does anyone know when this became a thing?...

lukecooperatus ,

You don't see how a corporate entity like Google is related to capitalism? What exactly do you think capitalism means?

Neoliberal adaptation (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

If the Twitter/X thing teaches you one thing, let it be this: Twitter was a neoliberal place. Then Elon Musk made it into X, a fascist place. Once again, neoliberalism laid the foundations of fascism. But that’s not the (whole) lesson… Neoliberal folks are still using X, calling it Twitter to make themselves feel better, and...

lukecooperatus ,

Those aren't comparable situations IMO.

People can't just pack up and leave because they disagree with their neighbors in real life, that takes money which not many people have a surplus of, especially in Alabama. That's not a choice.

Using Twitter is completely different, it costs nothing financially to stop going go a website. Your point about the social aspect and need for community is not wrong, but also if one values their social connections with fascists and fascist-enablers.. well.. I think you see where I'm going with that. That is a choice.

Looking for FOSS WYSIWYG HTML editor

I'm making this request on behalf of a community I'm part of, which has some fairly specific requirements that we're struggling to fill. Basically, we're an art and writing group that makes extensive use of building our own old-school webpages (almost exclusively HTML, some of us use some CSS as well). This group has been...

It's not downloadable software, but you might check out WordPress if you haven't recently, it's open source and free (though you do need to host it somewhere).

It used to have kind of a bad reputation for being a horrible hodgepodge of bad editing UI and random plugins that do things in wildly different ways, but the WordPress team has really stepped up their game in the last few years and it's actually very nice now as long as you stay away from the commercial plugins. There's almost always an open source plugin available for anything you'd want to do, but the out of box experience is plenty good for most pages you'd be likely to need.

WordPress has a very nice "block editor" enabled by default these days, which is essentially just their name for a WYSIWYG interface. Use drag and drop to design the pages, and then click a button to see it in a "code editor" that shows the HTML if you'd rather edit that way.

Anyhow, I know it's not exactly what you asked for, but I thought I'd mention it since you did say you are open to something web based.

lukecooperatus ,

How do you mean? I've been using it for a couple of months now and aside from one website (my bank) everything I've tried to do with it has been perfectly fine. It even has adblock and videos play in the background. I've also not seen any issues with dark mode; I'm using dark mode right now, actually.

lukecooperatus ,

As far as I know, Firefox Mobile doesn't have a bottom toolbar so I'm not really sure what you are referring to there (at least, there's no bottom toolbar in Firefox on Android where I'm using it), and the notification/battery area is definitely not part of Firefox. It sounds like your phone's system UI is providing those elements, and it's likely not really fair to blame problems with the system UI on Firefox.

lukecooperatus ,

They kinda do already; Apple sells a twisted piece of metal for $1k, and people buy it from them.

lukecooperatus ,

Something like this would be cool for ublock origin too, with a sound pinging whenever an ad is blocked; could be fun.

Share your favorite automations

I've been running HA for a while, and it's been working well; I haven't had to change much in a few months. That being said, it's fun to tinker with it, and I'm curious to hear what kind of automations the rest of the community is using. What automations are you most proud of? What are your favorite? What kind of interesting...

lukecooperatus ,

A foyer, essentially, but a lot smaller and almost strictly utilitarian. You take off and store your shoes, boots, jackets, etc there.

lukecooperatus ,

There are other instances for both piped and invidious aside from the ones linked above. I believe the intended usage involves you finding the instance closest to you in terms of network, which may not be those specific instances linked above.

lukecooperatus ,

Mouse gestures, synchronising my settings across 2 PCs and an android phone, shortcuts to different searchers etc. Plus it would need to be visually customisable

It sounds like perhaps you haven't looked into Firefox for a while, because out of the box it does all of the things you listed, except for gestures. There are multiple popular plugins that provide Firefox gestures easily. I'm not sure what visual customizations you're referring to, but Firefox also has had support for themes for ages now.

lukecooperatus ,

Every time I try KDE again, it feels so cluttered and all over the place with extra buttons everywhere and things scattered all about. So I go through pages and pages of customizations and settings to tame it into something that isn't hideously distracting, and... I realize that I've made it look pretty much like Gnome would with a couple of extensions and way less effort, so I go back to Gnome. 🤷

lukecooperatus ,

I usually interpret the phrase "drop in" to mean that the replacement being referenced will also work with everything written for the original. Does "drop in" in this case mean that Immich will transparently replace Google Photos, similar to how libretube replaces YouTube? That would be amazing!

lukecooperatus ,

I don't understand; how would a potential mugger or murderer know ahead of time that you don't have a banking app installed on your phone?

lukecooperatus ,

no more Amazon, Tesla, Space X, etc...

Oh no! Anyway, so how can we make this happen, like, yesterday?
