Netflix Windows app is set to remove its downloads feature, while introducing ads (www.techradar.com)

Netflix has managed to annoy a good number of its users with an announcement about an upcoming update to its Windows 11 (and Windows 10) app: support for adverts and live events will be added, but the ability to download content is being taken away....

That's why I like my steam deck so much: the design is so thoughtful and adapted to its own needs, and unfortunately that's a rare sight lately (not just in technology).

If you want it to be discoverable and easy to reach, go for YouTube. Otherwise, you have Vimeo, PeerTube (self-hosted, or you can join an instance), and that's about it.

Your other option is just regular file hosting, and sharing the file directly.

Is killing really that bad in a world with that kind of afterlife, and magic balls that can bring you back? Bad, yes. Unredeemable? Nah.

Why the fuck would I want that speed if I can only fully use it for less than a second before hitting the data cap? I'd rather have 100 times less speed with 100 times more cap, so I can actually fully use it however I want.

Also it's just ridiculous anyway because I don't even think hard drive write speeds are that fast.

Don't even need calculus. You move the hand 1/2 of the way in 1/2 of the total time. Then 1/4 of the way in 1/4th of the total time... They just forgot to think about how the intervals of time those steps take are proportional to the size of the step.

sneezycat ,
@sneezycat@sopuli.xyz avatar

Let's put it this way: you move your hand 1m in 1s. Looking at it like Zeno, there are infinite space-steps that total in 1m moved. And there are infinite time-steps that total in 1s. If there is no problem in having infinite space-steps covering a finite distance, what's the problem with having infinite time-steps covering a finite time?

It's more fundamentally philosophic than calculus, that's why I said it's unnecessary. You don't need to know you can sum infinite "infinitesimal" parts and get a finite quantity, or how to do it. It's just a simple reasoning to see there's no paradox (in the "it's impossible" sense) at all.

I don't think Che Guevara gave permission to use his image for trendy shirts. Is it that different? They're using the image of a dead person to sell a product.

We need better protection against companies in general.

It's not the "Fallout NV in space" I was expecting, but I got to support Parvatti's relationship while being a troublemaker for the capitalists; and I downloaded the Outer Wilds by mistake when trying to pirate Outer Worlds, so I'd say it was a win overall.

    In this case, if it's dBSPL they don't*. When measuring dBs in digital they are negative because 0dB is the loudest value the signal can take. In summary, dBs aren't made equal and they're a confusing unit.

    *0dBSPL is the auditory threshold, so you can't hear negative dBSPL but it is a valid measure.

    Google says its AI image-generator would sometimes 'overcompensate' for diversity (apnews.com)

    Google says its AI image-generator would sometimes 'overcompensate' for diversity::Google apologized Friday for its faulty rollout of a new artificial intelligence image-generator, acknowledging that in some cases the tool would “overcompensate” in seeking a diverse range of people even when such a range didn’t make sense.

    Gender pay gap means women work first two months of the year unpaid - so today is Women's Pay Day (www.thecanary.co)

    New Trades Union Congress (TUC) analysis reveals Women’s Pay Day – the day when the average woman stops working for free compared to the average man – is today, Wednesday 21 February. In some industries and in some parts of the country where the gender pay gap is wider, women effectively work for free for even longer...

    I mean there was a Twitter account that followed Elon's jet and was banned. That was the first time I saw a big meme around billionaires using jets. And I'm pretty sure I've seen other people criticized for it too. I feel like the focus is on Taylor this time around, but it's just one of many. Although I'm not saying there's no mysoginy involved, but I don't think she's singled out if you think of a couple years timeframe.

    If your scale is 0.01g precise, just measure a coin. Everyone has them and they have really exact weight (down to the .01g).

    sneezycat , (edited )
    @sneezycat@sopuli.xyz avatar

    I think you're thinking about 0.001g scales. Those are definitely sensitive to air currents and whatnot. But 0.01g scales are relatively cheap to get, and surprisingly accurate for the price! Maybe not down to the .01g exactly but close enough.

    But yeah you don't want to use one of those to weigh 400g :P
