If after 16 years you still have to be asked if you believe in crypto, then chances are that it is a scam.

takeda ,

And the best thing, is that one doesn't even have to mention "cybertruck".

BTW: I just had someone say when I showed them this picture: "no, this is not cybertruck, is it?"

takeda ,

upvote for a programmer joke :)

takeda ,

Don't you have any news, and other suggestions on the taskbar, lock screen etc? Also, are you in the EU?

takeda ,

Is it possible that the suggestions Windows is giving you don't perceive them as ads?

takeda ,

Yes, to me Tesla switched from the most desirable car to the least desirable one, exactly because he turned out to be a cunt.

Also in California I see more interest in other electric cars. There are tons of Teslas, but pretty much all new EVs (with temporary license plates) seem to be different brands.

takeda ,

This is great, but we also need a law that mandates leasing of existing last mile, to bring a competition like we had during the days of DSL.

Ideally the fiber from POP to my house should be owned by my city and leased to whichever ISP I want to do business with.

Maybe your cat, not all cats have a happy life. There are children of oligarchs who live a similar life to your cat.

The "Internet leftist" is the same disinformation that happened in 2016. The idea was to discourage people from voting for Hillary, because "she is equally as bad", many Democrats didn't vote or voted 3rd party in protest and we got trump.

The thing about trump though is that he moved the US embassy to Jerusalem (region which was supposed to be neutral, after that move US have legitimacy to claim that it belongs to Israel).

When negotiating "peace" between Israel and Palestine, Palestine wasn't even invited.

He is openly fully behind Israel and don't mind to "fix it" by fully eliminating Palestine.

They never weren't. In the whole middle east situation (even before Oct 7) no one is a good guy. They are all fighting for power and don't mind killing innocent people.

X automatically changed 'Twitter' to 'X' in domain names, breaking legit URLs (mashable.com)

On Monday, it appears X attempted to encourage users to cease referring to it as Twitter and instead adopt the name X. Some users began noticing that posts viewed via X for iOS were changing any references of "Twitter.com" to "X.com" automatically....

    takeda ,

Heh, now as you mentioned, the logos do look very similar.

    takeda ,

I am so puzzled by this. I've been using the Internet for 30 years, and in early 2000 people were much more standing up to principles. The greatest example was when digg changed how it operated with v4, people left it overnight. Now they prefer to be fucked over and don't have any intention of changing it, and excuses are really lame like "alternatives are too hard".

I think Yuval Harari was right and social media figured out how to hack our brains and control us.

    takeda ,

The LLM isn't really thinking, it is auto complete trained so the average person would be fooled thinking that text was produced by another human.

I'm not surprised it has flaws like that.

BTW here on Lenny there are communities with AI pictures. Someone created a similar community but with art created by humans.

While the AI results are very good, when you start looking and comparing it with non AI art, you start seeing that the AI while it is unique it still produces a cookie cutter results.

    takeda ,

I'm in software engineering. One would think that English would be a useless class for my major, yet at work I still have to write a lot of documents. Either preparing new features, explaining existing, writing instructions for others etc

BTW: with using AI to write essays, you generally have subject that is known and that many people write something similar, all of that was used to train it.

With technical writing you are generally describe something that is brand new and very unique so you won't be able to make AI write it for you.

Like everything with Nix, you pay a little more upfront to get a great experience later.

The nickname of the main character in Cyberpunk 2077

    takeda ,

I dunno, uBlock never showed any.

    fuck spez, fuck Reddit

    takeda ,

Though I must say I'm still upset at the losers that are still on twitter.

I feel like people changed drastically over the last two decades and are more likely to accept being fucked in the ass by corporations.

Remember what happened to digg when they changed the site to control the articles that are being posted? Or to Myspace when it was purchased by Murdoch?

    What the hell happened?

I would imagine Gmail is the primary reason people create an account with Google.

Mark Zuckerberg: Tech layoffs in 2024 have been a natural response to pandemic-era over hiring (www.itpro.com)

Mark Zuckerberg: Tech layoffs in 2024 have been a natural response to pandemic-era over hiring::Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg believes companies are still readjusting to pandemic-era hiring tactics amid a flurry of layoffs across the industry.

    takeda ,

He is right about that one though. When it was happening there were attempts to pin it to the start of a recession.

I am wondering if that was an attempt to try to influence politics to prevent interest rates from increasing.

Having said that, I also want to add: "eat a bag of dicks, Zucc"

    takeda ,

    Can you elaborate?

When layoffs were happening we got doom and gloom messages that recession was imminent and that it was primarily caused by interest rate increases.

A lot of people from tech industry were saying that this is because those companies were over hiring in 2021 and 2022. Now Zuckerberg is saying the same thing, but you are stating that it is a lie. Why?

    takeda ,

Not sure what you do, but 2021 and part of 2022 was crazy in the tech industry and those big companies were hiring like crazy. Smaller places actually had problems finding new employees.

In my company (which normally has a lot of longtimers) a lot of coworkers left during that time, because they found a job somewhere else.

    takeda ,

Just Chrome in this instance, as it spies for Google. Any anti ad blocking features go though to all chromium based browsers and it is better to switch Firefox. If that browser disappears we won't have a good alternative anymore.

    takeda ,

I find it fascinating how much advertising they pushed on release.

I am not an apple person so I had no idea about it, but on that day I saw it in a there different places. First two I understand: Lemmy post, an ad on some website, but most amazing one was on my kid's YouTube, started playing Marques Brownlee review after alphablocks episode. Like WTF? I don't watch anything about Apple, don't watch his reviews, but somewhat YouTube though that it was most relevant video for the content that was watched.

    takeda ,

From what I understand the thing isn't see through and the eyes are actually projected outside. Can somebody explain why they had to add tech to do it?

    takeda ,

Yes, that's my point. Why? Why make it extra more complicated and more expensive for no good benefit?

    takeda ,

They have Tesla truck success in that, then.

    takeda ,

Yeah, 2021 and half of 2022 they were hiring like crazy.

The layoffs are no surprise. They over hired and caused shortage in smaller companies.

I guess the return to the office might be a way to make people quit so they won't have to follow the WARN Act, but I'm not sure about it, as first people to switch jobs will be the most valuable ones.

    takeda ,

I'm actually more surprised that John 14:6 talks about GPS.

    takeda ,

    Then deinvest?

What a fucking argument. "Yes, it is a problem, but it is too hard for me to do anything about it, someone else should fix it"

    takeda ,

Yeah, I was a huge fan but the moment they changed the engine it was just Chrome in different skin. And later the news that they were bought by a Chinese firm doing shady stuff just confirmed that it was the right decision.

I am sad that they did not open source the engine. Somebody leaked it, but no one serious would touch it for legal reasons.

    takeda ,

It's because it is about the voice. A good voice actor can produce many voices. Yes you can find someone else but it almost always is not identical. And since you have to hire someone anyway and they are good, what even make them pretend to be someone else? They might have better voices.

With computers you can essentially steal someone's voice and the way they act and use that for cheap.

Those companies cry about piracy, that someone downloaded something and that made them not purchase the movie, music or game that many wouldn't purchase anyway.

This actually is the real piracy. They can steal the likeness of those people and make profit without needing to hire them ever again.

Adblock: Google did not slow down and lag YouTube performance with ad blocker on - Neowin (www.neowin.net)

Adblock: Google did not slow down and lag YouTube performance with ad blocker on - Neowin::According to several user reports online, Google was apparently slowing YouTube down if it detected adblockers. However, Adblock has now confirmed that such is not the case at all.

    takeda ,

Google slows down Firefox. After I installed UA switcher and changed UA for YouTube it became very snappy.

    takeda ,

It is for Firefox, and it is a visible difference if you install a UA switcher and change UA on YouTube.

    takeda ,

So why would I use it over Firefox + uBlock?

    takeda ,

Arch? That's so 2020. With NixOS you can just rollback if you make a mistake.

    https://i.redd.it/tlmg36zoel671.png

    I use NixOS BTW.

    takeda ,

I love how "unbiased" it is and I'm not even an arch user.

    takeda ,

Tankies traditionally are associated with communists, but today's tankies (even those that call themselves communists) are really after authoritarianism than communism, and given the history of the name (that they supported using tracks on civilians). I don't think they're is much difference between current communists and current fascists, both groups seem to support authoritarianism and feels like term "tankies" fits both of them well.

    takeda ,

Someone mentioned this recently, and now I am also convinced that the reason why it looks like this (and so different from the rest of their cars) is because they let Elon design it.
