1 & 2 are... #3 is impossible, though...

xor ,

deterministic builds?
the "builds" in ai are 1,000's of hours of supercomputers randomly mutating and evolving a gigantic neural network...
the inner workings of such are very much a black box.

to try to save that in a perfectly reproducible way is completely unreasonable, and simply will never happen.

you could require all of the arts input to be documented and saved, but people would lie and you're talking about a very large amount of data being saved for however long... also not really reasonable...

and you also have to understand that there's a lot of countries in the world, computers are all connected on the internet, and ai will just run in other countries, and illegal systems would run in the whatever country is dumb enough to try to but completely unreasonable and expensive extra requirements like that on it.

there's a whole field of study trying to reverse engineer neural networks after they're created... i.e. it's a black box to the people that make it

xor ,

so, your first paragraph isn't true. but i'll point out that bitcoin is mined with ASIC chips entirely now, which only hash bitcoin transactions... they can't compute anything else so it's not really comparable...

second part i do agree with except for self-modifying... although that doesn't seem too far away...

xor ,

what's does that have to do with anything?

xor ,

this fucking guy... i hope they give him criminal charges after this...

GOP warning of 'national security threat' is about Russia wanting nuclear weapon in space: Sources (abcnews.go.com)

GOP warning of 'national security threat' is about Russia wanting nuclear weapon in space: Sources::The White House will meet with congressional leadership as a top Republican is requesting President Biden declassify information on a "serious national security threat"

xor ,

really they all hate him and just want his supporters....

xor ,

yep... in 2015 he was the laughing stock of the gop... until he started winning

the fact that he got the nomination again blows my mind...
i'm legitimately concerned about a civil war at this point...

xor ,

have you tried weed?
i find that helps me hold interest in games...

xor ,

with a 10 digit phone number, that's a 1 in 10,000,000,000 chance someone will get a specific number that you blocked...
it's a little more because not all numbers are valid, and you're blocking more than one number... but i don't think it's going to be a huge problem....

i do think that "blocking culture" (a term that makes no sense) is a problem online, however...

not only is there a completely opaque process for banning you online, and zero opportunity to talk to a human about it... but when individuals block trolls they continue to troll, but with impunity....

xor ,

after looking into it:
it's not and it never was.
a) it's open source, so nobody's putting that shit in there without getting caught
b) it had an opt-in error reporting feature that would send data back... that was the entire thing...

xor ,

yep... really just that...

i've used it forever with a very restrictive firewall and i've never seen it do anything unexpected... or any phoning home at all...

xor ,

i don't believe you

xor ,

people are definitely going through the code on a project as popular as audacity...
less well known stuff is much less scrutinized, of course

xor ,

or what if, now hear me out, what if: some people look beyond their bubble, are highly skeptical of the media, and research stories from multiple angles???
it it conceivable that someone could possibly be aware of the filter bubble effect, and they try to pop it?
we are definitely descending into fascism...
while many people are fighting it, we are getting scarily closer on many fronts...
...
this should be terrifying because if they do get fully into power, first thing they'll do is round up people like us

xor ,

yeah ok, with your <1 day old account...

xor ,

you mean: troll other people's worldviews?

some people don't find baseless arguments entertaining... but there are "debate x" subs if you really want that...

xor ,

that was an objectively terrible film...
only eclipsed in terrible acting and terrible story by: alien resurrection...

in my opinion, Aliens is followed by Prometheus
the other two don't count

xor ,

the cinematography was stellar...
the acting and story was stupid...

which sorta sums up 90's cinema...

xor ,

i really do love Alien, Aliens, Promethius, and Alien: Covenant...
like, deep deep within my soul...
Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection are absolutely terrible movies. I just... it's just all so bad...
Alien 3 did have some quality and i'm glad that you enjoyed it and hope you continue to do so...
i hope you and your tea are just super great today.
i don't personally drink much tea... but im glad that you enjoy it and hope you burn your tongue on the next cup...

xor ,

the one good argument for that i've seen is: complacency
if anarchists (or x leftists) participate in a rigged democracy, they may start to feel like they're doing something, and doing enough by voting and promoting whomever... while that whom is guaranteed to fail even if they play the game and win the votes (see also: bernie sanders should've had the dnc nomination... the first time he won and the dnc directly intervened and gave it to hillary... and the second time there was collusion to manipulate the votes (buttiegeg dropped, all of his supporters went to biden, warren stayed on, and sanders would've won had she not)
but the left is always going to lose american democracy because democrats and republicans are entrenched...
so the argument goes, if they don't participate in the election, they'll demand other forms of change that will actually accomplish something...

xor ,

yeah it breaks down when you realize voting is still powerful...

xor ,

preface: you should vote in every election! not just presidential but there's an election every year that still matters... even judges are elected!

anyways, it's kinda like, if you have a shitty broken... say bicycle, where every bit and really the design is broken...
but you need to ride it to do stuff, so you keep spending a lot of resources fixing and maintaining it... jury rigging different bits and pieces to make it sorta rideable...
but if you just walked and recycled it and got/built a new bike with that same energy you spent on the old bike, you'd have a much better bicycling system...

i think there's a better alternative to throwing the whole bike away... but i do think a lot of good people get lost trying to fix their bike bike while ignoring fundamental flaws...

xor ,

i wonder what chat gpt would be like if trained on only and all private messages...

xor ,

it's a double log... y = log(log(x))...
or maybe *graph not to scale

xor ,

well the point was to secretly film your friend's reaction...

xor ,

well, glacial ice turns to ice ii, which is denser and bluer...

xor ,

there are two kinds of people:
people who try to split humanity in half with some random attribute and lack thereof, and people that don't.

xor ,

beat me to it... yeah, he said that weird shit about 'consenting' underage children not being traumatized or some shit... or there was no evidence they were...
later apologized and said he was shown evidence but, nah... plus the whole Epstein friendship thing...(maybe he was just naively getting fsf donations? )
dude did some fantastic things for computers and humanity overall with gnu... but he's definitely not cool

xor ,
  1. while his statements on Minsky are mostly logical, it misses some very important things:
    "presented herself as willing"

a. i think she was too young to appear willing

b. he's staying at this weird rich dude's island and suddenly a very young woman wants to have sex and you don't think she's cooerced?
... i guess there's some point in the term "assault", but the other term would be statuary rape, which still implies violence...

but that wasn't what i was talking about... i was talking about the few comments from before where he expressed his views on pedophilia...

given his position, i don't think it's responsible to try to claim pedophilia might be moral, if the child is "consenting", etc...
like sure, it's okay to discuss ideas... but he acted as if he knew for sure there's no evidence that it's harmful...

i don't think he should be punished, but i don't think he should be accepted as a spokesperson, figurehead, or leader...

at the very best, he's speaking very harmful things out of pocket... at the worse, he's rationalizing something he did.

i felt the same way about Stallman as i did about Allen Ginsberg when i found out he was a pedo...

xor ,

breaking zip ties isn't easy... but if you have a paper clip or something, it's a simple mechanism and you can lift the little plastic tab and loosen it...
or melt it with a lighter....

xor ,

you know, i don't think i could bite through a lamp cord....

xor ,

well ive definitely done it with a paper clip on a normal zip tie... the cop ones are a lot thicker so it seem like the tab would be bigger and easier to fuck with...

xor ,

Etymology
From glow +‎ -ie. Originated by Terry Davis, who stated in a 2017 video that "CIA n### glow in the dark", implying that they are conspicuous. The term "glowie" would become popular on the 4chan /pol/ board around 2019.

at this point it's basically a racist dog whistle....

xor ,

just because it's not your intention doesn't change where it comes from and with whom it's typically popular...

xor ,

yep... because all white men think like this, and only white men think like this...

xor ,

he used a hammer, anvil, and torch to make a head injury...

xor ,

because it's killing people who are invading and committing genocide on other people...
it literally is just saving lives

xor ,
xor ,

there's a lot of fun in being the first to figure something out... (like cod zombies easter eggs)
plus a lot more people to play with online in the beginning...
also, these muppets are how the games get tested and completed by the time you get it...

xor ,

it's not really that bad...

    not my bud lite!!!!
    🔫🔫🔫🔫🔫🔫

    xor ,

the strawman is "vote blue no matter who"
    ...
no, it's vote blue whenever "red" is a literal dictator, who promises to be a dictator when elected, who tried a coup once already, who leads a fascist gop splinter group...
vote any fucking color against that shit, not no matter who.
there's bad, and there's barely distinguishable from hitler bad...
    stop lying

    xor ,

i haven't seen a single "vote blue no matter who" since hillary...
yet i keep seeing it over and over again on lemmy, as an intentional misrepresentation of people who just want to stop drumpf...
    well, mostly from hexbeer
