I have had the exact experience you're describing, as a Linux noob. I used Ubuntu Cinnamon for a while, and it worked well OOTB but it also felt a bit too much like using a Mac or something. Very streamlined, not as customizable, it didn't really inspire you to go out learning how Linux works. Plus all of the things I've heard about Red Hat made me want to make a change, and EndeavourOS has been awesome. It's incredibly fast and lightweight, and I've been able to configure it to do just about everything I want to so far. If it fails short, it only ever really seems to be just a lack of knowledge on my part.

cups is pain

It's hilarious because it was FAR easier for me to get printing going on my Linux machine than with W10. It's an old printer, 1320n from HP, maybe 15 years old, but the damn thing is amazing for document printing, and I had to hunt for drivers and do a lot of compatibility shit to get my computer to recognize it. Arch (EndeavourOS) seemed to just natively recognize the printer and gave me zero fuss. When I was using Ubuntu, I used CUPS and it wasn't terrible. I liked it better than driver fishing, for sure.

I imagine the measurement is something like "perception of sound to the human ear". A rock concert is generally very loud and whether you're 5 feet back or 30 feet back from the stage won't make a huge difference

Just got my 2014 RAV4 and I'm in love. I was using rentals between vehicles and Holy Fuck do I hate modern cars. WHY do we need a fucking DIAL for the gear shift? Or BUTTONS? Why do I need a fucking 18" display!!

I would argue that this is an improvement over modern designs because one can memorize the orientation of the buttons and change gears without looking. One time I was driving a Buick and I accidentally engaged the E-Brake because there is zero tactile difference between Drive and E-Brake. Having to constantly look at the very bottom of a display panel, with zero peripheral vision on the road whatsoever, to fuck with a row of toggles to change the cabin A/C because making everything completely uniform is fashionable is inexcusable to me. I think that these large infotainment systems should be banned from cars and only something large enough for a backup camera is really necessary. All these apps and displays and flashy animations are so badly distracting.
