A difficult person doing their best to be less unpleasant, while remaining funny enough to use humour as a coping mechanism; wish me luck.

  1. Fuck those chumps, this country isn't their problem any more
  2. The only way this country stops sucking so bad is if lefties get very serious in a big way

I don't get why I'd ever go to therapy if all it's going to do is help me accept things. More people should not feel okay with how things are, if anything.

Gradually_Adjusting ,
@Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world avatar

I'm just being funny. Humour is how I cope for the most part, so when life gets harder I just get funnier. So I must have a pretty easy life by that logic; The trauma never stood a chance. 😎

Every free tech service can be (notionally) graded on how much value it offers for how much of your data it sucks up and monetizes. Most of the time we see an initial high value that gradually decreases as the developer gets greedy.

Google maps has managed to become Google "best" service, but it's important to be aware of the scale of problem we'll see if they start squeezing it for increasing profits, since it sucks up so much of our data and manages to be so useful.

That's the bulk of it, but there were other points being made about solving for edge cases that seem less central to the point.

I'm glad I came back to this thread. Would never have heard of this!

David Attenborough voice: Here is a rare treat! We are now witnessing an encounter between narcissistic billionaires. Make no mistake, this is no courtship however; notice the pointedly cordial tone. This is a veiled insult. They see themselves, and even they feel compelled to strike.

We can distinguish an animal's self awareness by how they respond to a mirror. Do they recognise themselves, or do they perceive a threat? Billionaire specimens are usually out of budget for science departments, so we must trust in careful observation to deduct their nature.

So the foreign ministry has a vtuber. Presumably to protect their identity? Fine. Are we going to entertain ragebait about it?

Bioshock, but instead of getting problematic superpowers you just rent everything

Well shit, now I want a Rowan Atkinson and Gordon Ramsay comedy film. Any kind, really... buddy cop, rom-com, heist, psychological horror. It's money in the bank

Just saw a clip, it's got its hooks in me now

It used to be fun to disabuse others of the Tony Stark facade. It's not as rewarding these days, now that everyone knows he'd grab a monkey by the tit

You get the usual blend of ⅔ mostly reasonable people and ⅓ super intense people who are not fun to talk to, they just stan different authoritarians.

Gradually_Adjusting ,
@Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world avatar

This was always going to happen

I would invite you to consider that tech billionaires value their talent so little that they'd make them move to Texas for a tax break.

"Please verify" is not enough of a red flag to overcome confirmation bias. People have to be reminded to seek disconfirming evidence. "Highly forwarded link is likely propaganda, consider the writers motivations and other views on the subject."

Gradually_Adjusting ,
@Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world avatar

Tough one to get right, isn't it? I take your point, but I fear the power of confirmation bias might be too great.

The fact that we're having to ask Meta nicely to not screw up our elections after everything they've done is pretty dire straits. It's a nice gesture from Mozilla, anyway.

A helpful graphic about writing alt text (lemmy.ml)

I wish my beard grew that long, but it never wants to, I'm a little envious. You might benefit from one of those heated beard brushes that smooth out the hair. I got one but my beard refuses to grow in long enough for it to matter.

I've asked the skywind community for their view on it a recent Bethesda update that screwed things up for Skyrim mods, and my takeaway was that it was basically a mixed bag, some good and some unfortunately not so good. Maybe they're just in the habit of playing extra nice with Bethesda, but maybe there's nuance below the surface.

Lego Robot was perhaps not a "good" webcomic, but I wouldn't call it bad either. It was a seminal piece of early internet meme history that left an indelible mark on everyone's current sense of humour whether they like it or not.

I don't know if I could deal with this bullshit. I work at such a small office we don't do anything but calls, faxes, and shitloads of emails. The odd side text sometimes. Adding a whole chat space thing where I'm constantly on the hook for a reply would do my head in.

Being good at words isn't the same as having good ideas

i.e. Hollow Knight runs fine on a trash PC

Gradually_Adjusting ,
@Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world avatar

Oh shit you're right. There's no such thing as a societal need, everything ought to be turned into for-profit endeavors that enrich private equity! Don't just defund the police, let them compete in the free market! Let's see who has the best ideas! Let's see if we can create a quadrillionaire! Because isn't the invisible hand of the market such an inherently appealing idea that we should ignore its failures? Isn't it fun to think of an economic theory as a great filter?

I've rarely seen anyone on Lemmy get nuked this hard for a bad take. I'm in awe.

It kills me to mention this but... oral sex is, I am reliably informed, an act that occurs in nature among rats, fruit bats, horses, goats, dolphins, most primates, cheetahs, lions, hyenas, sheep and cattle. There's just no way rogue humans taught it to all of them, right? God taught them that.
