If only they made their batteries easier to replace so this would be a non issue.

Instagram's unskippable ads test causes outrage among users (www.techspot.com)

Instagram has long been accused of stealing features from platforms such as TikTok, Snapchat, and Twitter/X. It appears that the company has looked to YouTube for its latest idea: unskippable ads that you have to watch for a period of time before being able to scroll further....

JCreazy ,

Just delete your account and uninstall. It seems people forget they have that option.

Dude is just upset he lost his expensive earbuds.

Google's "Manifest V2" Chrome extension phaseout next month is expected to impact the original uBlock Origin extension, which still uses the V2 framework and has 37 million users (www.theregister.com)

The new MV3 architecture reflects Google's avowed desire to make browser extensions more performant, private, and secure. But the internet giant's attempt to do so has been bitterly contested by makers of privacy-protecting and content-blocking extensions, who have argued that the Chocolate Factory's new software architecture...

Best Buy Membership "discount" (lemmy.world)

So I was shopping with my wife today and I said "oh let's see if my membership helps out." So we went and added the same item to each of our carts, and to our surprise, the total was the same! So what is it exactly that I'm paying for in this membership if the items "original price" is higher for me than it is for regular...

I haven't been to a best by since the local one closed a couple years ago. They closed it do to poor sales and I can see why. Every time you would go there, the shelves weren't stocked. Things weren't organized, it was obvious that nobody that worked there gave a fuck so why would I wasn't to support a business that was in such bad shape. It was common to either not be able to find a single employee to help you with something or they would have 20 people working that would ask if you if you need help every 3 minutes.

JCreazy ,

After listening to it, I would say it's a bit of a stretch. It may sound similar but the cadence is different. Definitely not Scarlett.

JCreazy ,

And the alcohol lists never have prices which is a clear indication that they know they are asking too much money.

Kids will stay using their pillow case

I went from cable to satellite in 2008 and then went strictly streaming in 2010. I've had Disney + and Netflix off and on over the years but I've found that I don't need any of them. There are plenty of things to watch for free elsewhere and plenty of other things to do than watch shows that will be canceled after the first season.

JCreazy ,

I'm one of the people that canceled when they announced they were going to be putting ads in prime. I'm doing just fine without it.

Aliexpress is great for the cheap useful stuff for around the house.

JCreazy ,

Watch out, we got a lawyer over here.

JCreazy ,

Oh no, you just gave them more ideas.

JCreazy ,

Let's be honest, one of the main pulls of that show is the main character is an attractive woman. I haven't seen the show, but I've seen the oogling over her.

JCreazy ,

Yeah, aliexpress is where I go to buy random PCBs for projects.

I'm pretty sure I answered this question wrong because I should have answered it "Constantly"

They've put all their eggs into the "let's hope people upgrade their perfectly working phone every year" basket and that basket is getting smaller.

FCC Imposes Nearly $200 Million in Fines on US Wireless Carriers (AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon) for Illegal Location Data Sharing (neuters.de)

The carriers sold "real-time location information to data aggregators, allowing this highly sensitive data to wind up in the hands of bail-bond companies, bounty hunters, and other shady actors," FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel said in a statement....

JCreazy ,

Great job FCC. You did nothing. Congratulations. They are just going to do it again.

US should call their bluff. If Tiktok gets banned, people will complain for a little bit until people forget and move on to what's next. Why doesn't an American company make something that's practically identical? People will be all desperate for their 5 second dopamine rush that they will download anything.

Tech brands are forcing AI into your gadgets—whether you asked for it or not (arstechnica.com)

Earlier this year, Microsoft added a new key to Windows keyboards for the first time since 1994. Before the news dropped, your mind might’ve raced with the possibilities and potential usefulness of a new addition. However, the button ended up being a Copilot launcher button that doesn’t even work in an innovative way....

This analogy doesn't really work though. Most people don't willingly receive cancer. I think the thought process is you chose to borrow that money now it's your responsibility to pay it back. If you worked an entire year to pay off your student loan debt and another person doesn't work and their loans are paid off, you worked an entire year for free. Essentially slave labor. Anyone would be grateful when someone beats cancer but watching everyone around you get free handouts while you did what you are supposed to, I can see why people aren't a fan of the idea. I paid off my student loans during COVID and I never expected any money back but I'd be lying if I said getting that money back now would not be extremely helpful in my life. I'm grateful that people are getting their loans forgiven. College shouldn't cost remotely what it does.

JCreazy ,

While a higher education is really nice and it would be nice if everyone could have one. They aren't necessary.

JCreazy ,

Good luck to you my friend. I wish you well.

LibreTube hasn't worked in a couple of weeks

JCreazy ,

YouTube is blocking it, the only way to fix it is to go into settings and disable the piped proxy

JCreazy ,

I hate this rhetoric. It implies that this a refular occurence. It is just a man hating comment. If this is happening to you frequently, maybe you are the problem. I am tired of being assumed an asshole just because I am a man. It is sexist. Plain and simple.

JCreazy ,

That's the thing though, I am not the problem, it's some other asshole that can't take rejection. He is the problem. Two different people.

JCreazy ,

I don't think I have ever been to a gas station with ads obnoxious enough to notice. If I start noticing them (ie extremely loud) I stop getting my gas there.

JCreazy ,

I don't try convert anyone. I just try to let people know they can get away from their abusers.

JCreazy ,

Yes. It's how they communicate via social media and watch Tiktok. Also, the better the iphone you have, the cooler you are.

JCreazy ,

I probably couldn't tell you the last time I paid attention to the shirt someone was wearing let alone cared. There are far more pressing things in life to care about.

They are a bit late to the party aren't they?

Why would a man want to approach a woman that automatically assumes the worst of them?

JCreazy , (edited )

This metaphor doesn't make sense when you think about risk analysis. If we are comparing humans to alligators here then let's say you go up to 1000 people and put your arm out in front of them. Now do the same thing with 1,000 alligators. Is it more likely that the alligators will be far more aggressive? Probably. Now until this experiment is done we'll never know but that is the reason why your alligator metaphor. It also implies that women interacting with men would be equivalent to women petting an alligator which let's face it most people wouldn't want to get close to a wild alligator.

JCreazy ,

I understand that but there is a big difference between being cautious and being a paranoid man hater and that's what I've been seeing a lot of lately. There are a lot of disgusting men in the world, I won't deny that, but to assume all men are like that is asinine.

JCreazy ,

Then what were they comparing it to?

JCreazy ,

I am not sure if you think that is some sort of "gotcha" but that isn't it. In fact, I'm not sure what you are implying at all. Care to elaborate further?

JCreazy ,

So if you assume an unknown man is likely to be violent towards you and it's not worth the risk then how do you ever expect to meet new people that are men without automatically assuming they are a rapist? Also, you said that the majority of rape victims knew and trusted their rapists which means that you can't even trust the people you know. So now you're telling me you literally can't trust anyone and you're trying to tell me that you're not paranoid. Please explain to me how that makes sense.

US sues Apple for illegal monopoly over smartphones (www.theverge.com)

The US Department of Justice and 16 state and district attorneys general accused Apple of operating an illegal monopoly in the smartphone market in a new antitrust lawsuit. The DOJ and states are accusing Apple of driving up prices for consumers and developers at the expense of making users more reliant on its iPhones.
