JargonWagon ,

I've been going more often lately. I do hate having to catch up on 600 pages that's been discussed over the past 8 years though.

JargonWagon ,

When I worked with a lot of legal documents, we just used DocuSign mostly. Have you attempted that on Linux? Not sure what it's like these days, also curious if it's because it's a web application if it works the same.

Idk what all this talk is about - we have wire transfers in the US. I don't need a third party to do it either, it's exactly as you've described, I can do one through the bank's app or on their website, and it's free. It's not as common though since the information required is: Name of the recipient's account exactly as it is, account #, routing #, and exact name of the bank tied to the routing #. You can save that info though to make it easier to transfer the next time around - it's very useful for close family and friends.

EDIT: Turns out I have two different ways of transferring money. One is just moving money between accounts, can be at the same or a different financial institution, has the same functionality as a wire transfer, is free, and doesn't rely on third party apps. A wire transfer is apparently done via some federal system and does require paying $20 or so, but I haven't had to do a wire transfer in forever. I'm not sure why anyone would want to do a wire transfer.

JargonWagon ,

Looked into it some more - I can move money to an external account via the app at no cost, but a "wire transfer" needs to be performed in person or over the phone with my bank, and there is a $20 fee. Not sure what the difference is besides the name and how the banks are handling it, but it's the same thing. I can send money to someone at the same or a different bank/credit union for free and without relying on third party apps. Will edit my comment.

JargonWagon ,

I've had direct deposit at every job I've worked for over a decade. Before then, I only had one job that didn't offer it, though I had friends with jobs that did have direct deposit. Very common to have it these days. Some jobs can even get you direct deposit for the amount you worked that very same day, so I'd work 8 hours and by the time I get home, I'd have my pay from that day, and it's like that everyday.

JargonWagon ,

I've been able to transfer money through my banking app for a while without issue. Not sure where that came from in the post, cause it's not true lol.

JargonWagon ,

I'm not seeing it in Sync for Lemmy either

JargonWagon ,

I think part of that larger discussion needs to include the array of reasons that people become homeless in the first place, cause it's not just that they lack motivation like your comment suggests. There's mental health reasons, financial reasons, drug addiction, alcoholism, etc. And once you become homeless, it can be difficult to get out of - jobs require that you have reliable transportation, and an address for mailing stuff to you, that you look presentable, and that you don't smell.

A fair amount of homeless people have smartphones nowadays, so I think a system in place where temporary residence can be set up, a bank account set up, access to therapy, and priority access to remote jobs can take place will be a huge step forward in reducing the homeless population. That and also capping interest rates and market values for houses/condos/apartments so that they're actually affordable to the common person.

JargonWagon ,

There's too much toxicity in RL these days.

JargonWagon ,

The smurfing has gotten so bad...

JargonWagon ,

Yup. Shit's out of control now. Can someone just make an equally competitive car soccer game to act as a competitor?

JargonWagon ,

You know, if they were talking a player named that, someone could have reported it, and this comment could have just been the straw that broke the camel's back to get the ban.

JargonWagon ,

"Cow boob juice is for baby cows" idk why they're being down voted so hard, that shit is gold

JargonWagon ,

Or even better, peanut butter and banana!

JargonWagon ,

They're implying that there are two homeless people for every church and that every church should house two homeless people to solve homelessness. Not agreeing with OP, just trying to answer your question.

JargonWagon ,

Sphynx cats have an interesting origin story. Canadian scientists took cats with the genetic defect of hairlessness and began breeding them back in the 60s to create the new breed of the Sphynx.

JargonWagon ,

Nothing. I've fixed nothing.

JargonWagon ,

Still trying to use Linux Mint on my 2013ish MacBook Pro as a daily driver. Got the MacBook for free and it wouldn't update anymore, so installed Linux Mint and it's been great for the most part. Still trying to access my NAS on it though. Having to manually mount drives is a new experience for me, and it's not coming to me intuitively. Reached out via IRC, got some help but still working on it.

JargonWagon ,

I saw you post that a couple of times and didn't realize you meant the sub within the picture, I was trying to find the significance of this being posted in linuxmemes lol

how can something be so courageous and yet so true (slrpnk.net)

Edit: Jesus Christ, people. If you buy a $150 Thinkpad made by slave labor instead of a $1,200 MacBook made by slave labor, you're still supporting a capitalist economy based on slave labor. We all do. We have no choice. The number of smug liberals in the comments saying "well I buy a cheap used laptop" or "well I buy coffee...

JargonWagon ,

Same. I got mine as a handmedown from a sibling. Works great with Linux Mint!

JargonWagon ,

I agree on his decision. Yeah they were down a touchdown and extra point at the end of the first half, but the 49ers tired themselves out while Kelcey was just getting started.

JargonWagon OP ,

Lol, I didn't even think about that. The colors of the birds were kinda arbitrary, same with the designs on them. Just wanted to portray bird watching as being creepy from the perspective of birds lol

JargonWagon ,

Germans would hate to live in that house due to no lüften.

JargonWagon ,

I think you meant to reply to a comment and instead replied to the post.

JargonWagon ,

So what, compliment them anyway! Let your good intentions be known!

JargonWagon ,

I try to be the guy giving the compliments. Like, "Hey I like the jacket," or, "Hey I like the hat," stuff like that. I'll say it strangers and they always seem surprised and put on a seemingly genuine smile.

Us guys need to look out for each other, ya know? Some guys will never hear a compliment, and just hearing one can make someone's day.

Jesus, they were just saying that they themselves don't miss it, not that no one should ever use it, no need for all the snarky sarcasm.

    JargonWagon ,

I agree with you that those with disabilities and those in isolated areas rely on it, but you didn't reply to the post - you replied to that comment. I'm not being ableist, but pointing out that you replied to a person who was just stating that they themselves can live without it. The person you replied to wasn't being ableist either.

    JargonWagon ,

I never gave you a directive, just pointed out that there is no need for the snarky sarcasm.

I still really want to play Black Flag, ngl. I think I have a weakness for sea songs. Maybe I should play more Sea of Thieves instead.

    JargonWagon , (edited )

    Woah.

    Centrist?

EDIT: Tried to make a joke and it seems to have missed the mark. Centrist was the least surprising thing in that comment to be shocked by, I thought, so only being shocked by that I thought would have come off as funny. Poe's Law prevails lol

    JargonWagon ,

This post and your replies are amazing.

    How can I Linux?

    JargonWagon ,

Perfect response as always. Thank you. Hearing about my friend's job having some difficulties where there was some update on a Linux based device at stores and it's causing all sorts of issues at the stores. I'm sure he would agree with your statement right now.

    JargonWagon ,

Or what if they're black? I've read so many stories about sensors not detecting people simply because they have darker skin.
