I think its probably possible to use a meme format without intending it to compare yourself to the subject of the meme

MetaCubed ,

I know, it's absolutely ridiculous. I'm sorry I even suggested it in the first place. /s

MetaCubed , (edited )

Letter paper (8.5" x 11" | 215.9mm x 279.4mm) is kinda sorta pretty close to A4 (8.27" x 11.69" | 210mm x 297mm) so without having the two next to each other, it can seem like A4 is just a funny piece of letter, and vice versa. But to answer the actual question, USA and Canada (and apparently the phillipines???) use the "North American Standard" which is a terrifying mess in comparison to the beauty that is the ISO standard.

Edit: typos

MetaCubed ,

It's a (probably ai gen) DND druid meme???

MetaCubed , (edited )

Except plastic straws aren't actively hunting marine creatures.

Domesticated cats are not native to north america and western Europe, and people should be more responsible in how they care for their pets, especially the ones that are invasive fucking species.

Also, 2 things can be true. It's possible that bird populations are being decimated by ecological destruction as well as the mass breeding and free roaming of invasive predators introduced by humans.

Edit: clarified that I meant domesticated cats

MetaCubed ,

Fantastically, a wild cat isn't a domestic cat! Wow! Who knew!

Stop thinking that things that make you feel bad about your world view are "patently false information based on an amero-centric worldview". Please and fucking thank you

MetaCubed ,

I was specifically referring to domesticated cats not being native to these regions since that was what is being discussed.

MetaCubed ,

I edited one word of my comment because I had another reply from someone who misunderstood what I was referring to, so i clarified so there wouldnt be further confusion, not to give myself an excuse to be snarky.

  • I've read the article you've provided a number of times previously and while yes, it does indicate that there is no scientific evidence for my claim, it is limited to the UK.

  • I don't see what interbreed-ability has to do with invasiveness?

I don't care about some American publication talking about cats

  • I provided 3 sources, one was American, the others were from Oxford (also in the UK last I checked) and Tillburg (Netherlands), both discussing the EU broadly

  • Here is another study from the checks notes British Ecological Society which concludes in part

"...It is also well established that free-ranging cats pose a significant threat to biodiversity conservation and restoration worldwide, and that remedying this threat is relatively easy when compared to other drivers of biodiversity loss..."

If you're not going to read the evidence I'm providing, while saying I'm only providing americentric evidence, then I'm going to respectfully abandon this thread. I apologize for the snark, that was uncalled for.

Edit: formatting only

MetaCubed ,

Look everyone! Another troll that doesn't understand what trigger warnings are for!

MetaCubed ,

I still have a lot of de-googling to do. However at this point, I only use google as a search engine maybe once/month, and it's frankly usually for the google business info...thing. For everything else, I use Kagi and quite frankly have not looked back. Probably one of the few services that I happily pay for.

MetaCubed ,

I'm not going to shame you for being a eurobrain, but why would you start talking authoritatively on the deranged state of North American tipping culture when you dont seem to understand how it works?

It's surprisingly common for cashiers to re-enter your tip amount for you when they reset the machine if there was an issue with your transaction, or maybe they fudged the automatic gratuity on a large party, or maybe the person needed assistance with the machine and the cashier decided that was their chance.... Unfortunately when people's incomes rely on tips, and a tip is expected on every meal, it's only a matter of time before someone takes advantage, and unfortunately some people just... Aren't super observant.

As terrible as Capital One is (extremely bad), this isn't a dark pattern to keep you from spending money, they get more out of you if you spend more on your Credit card because of the interest on repayments.

MetaCubed ,

You'll get a lot farther with people being kinder in their corrections of your incorrect presumptions if you vibe check yourself and cool it with the providing the enlightened eurobrain takes.

If I were you, I'd be a tad more cautious with the use of that word, "works". Seems a lil bit overblown for what you are talking about.

I know the north american tipping system is a top-down broken trash fire. You'll find that I never actually endorsed the system, just commented on the reality of it. It's possible for someone to acknowledge how something works ("how it works" =/= an endorsement of functionality) while understanding that the system itself is negatively impactful to those inside it

If you don't check the amount before entering the pin, it's a you problem.

I'm not an American, so someone else is free to correct me, but most of the US is still being introduced to chip cards. I believe there's still places where it's not exactly uncommon for the server to swipe for you.

But then, you are legally allowed to literally kill them, right?

Holy bad faith Batman

if you can't afford having employees, then don't.

Yes... I agree. I never actually endorsed the north american system though?

A cursory glance at your profile tells me that we're probably roughly equally far left, so why are you trying to start a war here when I was merely trying to correct your functional understanding of a system.

MetaCubed ,

All your explanation is neat and all, but I'm going to stop engaging. You're refuting/attacking points that are systemically related to what I'm talking about, but aren't actual values I hold, nor have I indicated I hold them. I will however address 2 things you said, just for fun:

I believe you didn't intend to. I also believe a lot of those who upvoted you totally think you did.

Argue with them when they comment with incorrect interpretations then? Why are you arguing with me about how my (in my opinion) incredibly clear non-endorsement of a system could have been interpreted by some people that left upvotes?

It is bad. Destroying families bad.

Yes? Again, nominally I agree with everything you've said, you just dont understand the north american tipping system, or that saying "how it works" is not the same as saying "how this good and well designed system functions"

Oh and for what it's worth, I promise you that the upvotes on my comment in fucking 196 weren't because of some imagined endorsement for tipping culture or capitalism (again, we're in 196). They were most likely because you are being truly insufferable.

how can something be so courageous and yet so true (slrpnk.net)

Edit: Jesus Christ, people. If you buy a $150 Thinkpad made by slave labor instead of a $1,200 MacBook made by slave labor, you're still supporting a capitalist economy based on slave labor. We all do. We have no choice. The number of smug liberals in the comments saying "well I buy a cheap used laptop" or "well I buy coffee...

MetaCubed ,

As someone who has worked a help desk for nearly a decade now, and hates Mac's and Apple with a general burning passion:

Suggesting that modern windows 11 is any more usable than MacOS for a general "browse thw web and check email" user, is ridiculous.

Furthermore, some educational programs, jobs, courses, software, may in fact mean that a person has a requirement for a Mac, even if they can't afford the Mac. >!Though I imagine your response to this will simply be "just dont do the things that need a Mac if you want to complain about capitalism 4head"!<

MetaCubed ,

We love to see it. Welcome to your journey :)

MetaCubed ,

I unironically have thefuck installed in a few of my more frequently logged VMs. Incredibly convenient.

MetaCubed ,

"You can't do anything to personally fix this, so you might as well not worry about it"

I fucking hate this mindset. This mindset is the reason we are in this position. We can't just sit idly by and silently watch the right implement fascist policy and say "well, they were gonna try anyways, nothing we can do I guess".

MetaCubed ,

I'd be asking you to take the headset off

MetaCubed ,

I was pretty happy with tuta, but I just switched to proton for the IMAP/SMTP support.

MetaCubed ,

I'm entirely for gender abolitionism, but you really need to find some better rhetoric. "Cope and seethe, your arguments are shit" won't work on most people

MetaCubed ,

I thought they were gender abolitionist, but I... I'm not too sure anymore.

MetaCubed ,

I think it's a little "exotic" to call my existence an inherent political commentary. It's certainly something that can be used to inform political debate, but I believe saying that it's inherent misses the point that our existence is only political because it's politicized

And for what it's worth, gender dysphoria is also something experienced by nonbinary folks, but it isn't a requirement of being trans or non-binary either. Some people just don't experience it and requiring it as a clinical diagnosis is part of the medicalization of our and trans people's existence as well.

I don't really know how to finish this lol, I agree with the rest of your comment. I just wanted to correct what I feel are common misconceptions.

MetaCubed ,

Firefox with ublock origin and you will unironically have an near identical experience

MetaCubed ,

Worth noting that RE:4 was cracked day of release.
