I code stuff. I draw stuff.

I’m a Hongkonger 🇭🇰
If you’re a westerner coming here because you’re arguing with me about something in HK/China/Asia, I forgive you for your misunderstandings.

It was the old image of Chinese products (edit: also services), but recently their quality has increased significantly. On top of that, the price is much lower than alternatives.

NorthWestWind ,
@NorthWestWind@lemmy.world avatar

When people saw the price, they stopped caring about that. This has been the case of Hong Kong.

Sweatshop is probably true, but I'm telling you, you just cannot resist the price as a consumer. Tooth filling for 29 HKD (3.7 USD), you just can't beat that.

Hongkonger are extremely realistic and practical. Price low? Use it

You do you, my friend.

Chinese are humans too. They have a life, have things to pay for, and most of them are not even associated with the government.

This is the cultural differences between the west and Japan. Japanese people really likes big robots but the west just doesn't buy that concept. Therefore early big robot anime didn't really made it into the western market. It's only when they started reducing their sizes (astroboy, I mean, is it even a robot?) that it started to get popular.

You can't convince me Korean are not stickman drawings

I made up the word "retromarketing" in my mind refering to game companies remaking old games for profits by abusing nostalgia.

It was until I wanted to explain to my friend about this, I looked it up and this word actually exists, and means the same thing.

I guess it's not hard to come up with words.

In Hong Kong too, though the dividing is a bit different. High school is like the last 3 years of secondary school, and middle school is like the 3 years in primary school and 3 years in secondary school.

We also have vector and matrix on top of calculus in high school if you take the elective course. The compulsory part contains geometry, complex, probability, etc.

If you want, we have some samples. I took module 2.
Compulsory
Module 1: Calculus + Statistics
Module 2: Algebra + Calculus

Some people may take this to an extreme and bully all lemmy.world users. Just a reminder that there are non-transphobes here.

I used to use it a lot, but for a while now (maybe 2 years) I have just been using VPN+SSH

What tips or resources would you recommend to someone who knows about Linux and wants to self-host, but has no experience self-hosting?

I have several years of Linux experience and I know how to fix my own problems, and I have experience self-hosting using Docker and Docker Compose, but I really feel that I don't know how to self-host and that I just copy and paste commands without understanding it, I would really like to learn how to self-host by myself but I...

May not be ideal for everyone but most of the time I want to learn something, I just start doing it.

Last year, I basically had no idea about self hosting and I started off with immich. Problems started to arise, but is solvable by searching online.

I also read Lemmy a lot and sometimes from this very community I get tips (such as fail2ban)

Clicking on "Having trouble?" takes you to a website "5 signs you may be a robot"

What's wrong with Inkscape? It's meant to be a vector graphics editor

cuz you can only die once anyway, so you will end up with a chance approaching 100% of getting the money

You still have two in your mind. Some big communities are also scattered in different instances than those.

    NorthWestWind ,

Of course it's wetdry.world. I love this instance.

For everyone who don't know, this is the complicated version of Chinese numbers. In modern days, they are mostly used in writing cheques, because these characters are not as easily modified as the simple version.

    NorthWestWind ,
    @NorthWestWind@lemmy.world avatar

Even as a Hongkonger myself, I have no idea. We just see these characters as ancient numbers.

Also, if you write 柒 in an informal context, it is considered offensive.

Everyone in the fandom is on the same boat ship.
