I don't think the military should show a profit. That would just bring back colonialism. Although, they do make a hefty profit for defense contractors.

It's a law in my state. I doubt it ever gets enforced unless you really piss off the librarian.

Just turn off your antivirus bro, it's cool bro. No, it doesn't work in a vm either. It's fine, just do it.

Blippi is an amazing example of entrepreneurship. They created hit children's character with basically nothing. Those early videos are just him at a park or in a kids play area shot with an iPhone.

Companies know they can make tools quieter. They didn't do it because louder sounds more powerful to consumers.

They do the same thing with vehicle air intakes to eliminate annoying sounds and make the car sound more throaty. Don't forget about cars that have engine noises come through the stereo. People think they need to "feel the engine" in order to drive. I would rather it be completely silent, not that's not possible because of tire noise.

You gotta do it every day all day. Can eveyone do that? No.

My guy do you think jumping on a teams meeting or using Excel and sending emails is difficult? Office work is unskilled work. Management is unskilled work. Having a degree didn't suddenly make you a skilled worker. Hell, even sys administrator and programming are unskilled, all you have to know is how to Google stuff. They consider car mechanics unskilled for reference.

It's probably a lot harder without any social skills, lmao

Under the aca a full time employee is 30 hours or more per week, so they're going to give part time employees less than that to avoid giving them health insurance and other benefits. That's why many people have to work multiple jobs.

So there's this company called flock safety. They provide license plate cameras for the majority of police departments in the US. They're talking about providing another service in order to do traffic analysis. It won't be too long until they start selling data to advertising companies. You would say, so what they can't know who I am based on a licence plate. Guess what? If you go to a gas station they could take a picture of your license plate and corelate it with your credit card in order to find your name. Imagine driving down the road and having targeted ads on a billboard.

Distributors send their junk to home stores because they know they won't reject it.

Short form video, infinite scrolling, and an algorithm that shows you videos based on your habits is a lot different than watching cartoons with random ads sprinkled in. Even as a kid commercial breaks were there to get up, use the bathroom, and get a snack/drink.

The problem is that in the past you would have your rates increased because you get into accidents because of bad drivers like this or the kind of car you drive being more popular with bad drivers. Driving slower will cause you to get into more accidents. Now they can do a root cause analysis and find the true reason for accidents. Unfortunately if you can afford higher rates then this doesn't help anyone. States should have stepped in a long time ago to make getting a license more difficult and making testing more frequent.

I usually use Ubuntu containers because it has more packages by default and then I don't have to worry about dependencies so much.

Rivian has been doing layoffs at their BloNo plant recently. I'm not sure if it's just like everyone else in the tech sector or if demand is down.

You have to warm up the engine before you check the oil 😉 Wet = good, dry = bad. spread the juices around before you proceed. Licking is also good, spell out the abc's with your tongue. Source: make my wife forget what dimension she's in on the reg.

Rocking a Dell latitude 3460 Core i5-5200U (2016?) with SSD and upgraded 16gb ram with win 11 running fine. It's a flimsy pos I think it was meant for the Indian market, but I paid sub $100 for it 4+ years ago. Sure, I'm not gaming on it, but it works just fine for laptop activities.

They've been doing that for a long time too. I worked at a Chevy dealership circa 2009 and did dealer installed backup cameras on Silverado and remote start systems on Camero. The Camero was just new key fob and reprograming. The Silverado was a new tailgate handle and wiring, if it didn't have an infotainment system then it got a new rear view mirror.

On my Ford I was able to use a program called Forscan and activate remote entry that didn't come from the factory even though the receiver was already included.

Even my 1998 car had wiring in place for features that it didn't come with because it was cheaper to make one harness for all models instead of different harnesses for different options.

It's a making scheme like windows 95, 98, & 2k. They don't call it Windows 11 server.

The thought of administering windows server is vomitous.

There's alternatives out there, unless you have specific contract obligations.

Windows 11 exists for the sole purpose of requiring tpm 2.0 in order to boost new PC sales. 10+ year old hardware worked perfectly fine running win 10 and PC manufacturers were steadily losing sales as there was little or no need for organizations to replace what they had. The decision to make that requirement will result in millions of PCs going in the trash.

    Bye bye middle management!

But seriously, work will always expand to the available workforce. That's why there are so many stupid industries. They always tank during a resession, but other industries will expand to use excess labor.

The majority of desktop users are within organizations with people who administer all of the PCs. They use Windows server to do this, which is actually mind boggling, but they do it somehow. It would be easier to do it with Linux, but most admins are stuck with what tools that already have.

It happened to Blackberry, everyone had one of those until iPhone came out. IBM used to be the most common PC brand. Everyone used to drive minivans. Markets shift all the time.

You're better off with random different passwords for each service written on a sticky note than using the same password/email combofor multiple accounts.

    PriorityMotif ,
    @PriorityMotif@lemmy.world avatar

Just shift the password descriptions a few spots compared to the passwords, then you'll get email about failed logins as a canary.
