CGNAT is good. One more layer of obfuscation between me and the internet.

Sucks for those wanting to run services from home I guess.

RecallMadness ,

While suing everyone else that makes shovel handles that work with your shovel heads.

RecallMadness ,

They were first to market with a decent GPGPU toolkit (CUDA) which built them a pretty sizeable userbase.

Then when competitors caught up, they made it as hard as possible to transition away from their ecosystem.

Like Apple, but worse.

I guess they learned from their Gaming heyday that not controlling the abstraction layer (eg OpenGL, DirectX, etc) means they can’t do lock in.

RecallMadness ,

Problem then is, You Still gotta buy a truck to buy and haul your 2nd motorcycle, your 3rd motorcycle, your dirt bike, and your track bike.

Alternate headline:

Companies accept money for a thing that will happen anyway, and will be unable to prove if they say no.

GenAi is unfortunately here, and the technocracy wants you to want it so they can farm you for more and more intimate data to leverage and enforce their technocracy.
And the only way they’re going to do it is by keeping the press positive, and feed it more and more data in the hopes it fixes things.

RecallMadness ,

What are the icons for?

I know gnome, and the 3 that have their name in the logo (xfce, sway, tty).

I’m going back to Slackware. Can’t keep up with this shit any more.

RecallMadness ,

I was expecting some sort of “Ai discovers new bug in 30 year old software”… cool I’m excited.

Then they were talking about how the bug was persistent, and I’m more intrigued “is the bug some weird emergent behaviour corrupting state somewhere?”

Nope, just another example of a shit in shit out data model.

RecallMadness ,

Aren’t the lyrics just ripped from somewhere else?

They’ve got lyrics for some of the obscure shit I listen to, no way they’re paying money for someone to transcribe it.

RecallMadness ,

If you ignore the mildly abusive familial relationship. Sure.

RecallMadness ,

Yes, because my imported car tunes to a foreign radio station that doesn’t exist when you first turn it on, the “source” button cycles through all 27 of the pre-programmed foreign radio stations then moves onto digital radio then CD and then Bluetooth, but picks my wife’s phone first, and needs to fai before allowing you to move onto the next phone.

Honestly, I just drive in silence most of the time.

RecallMadness ,

Agreed.

Resilio sync works better. But the “sync identity” thing is broken, and configuring it declaratively is hard.

But 100% agree. Would love a virtual file system solution. Ideally one which you can use to fill available disk space and ensure you always have a minimum number of copies.

Mozilla, because:

  • rebranded Mullvad
  • funds Mozilla
  • can buy a year subscription
RecallMadness ,

Because:

  • Mozilla needs money, and I’m assuming there’s a financial incentive for them
  • buying Mullvad one month at a time is annoying as shit
  • a years subsection is half price
  • it’s pretty much the same thing. I just had to change my Mullvad public key with my Mozilla one and my connection still worked.

Meanwhile google:

we have hand picked a selection of 6 establishments in your area. They are:

  • one high end establishment that costs $80 for a main
  • a Chinese takeaway that is closed
  • a bhan mi place that doesn’t actually exist any more
  • a pizza chain
  • somewhere affordable, within walking distance, but not what you feel like.
  • an automotive bodywork shop

It never gets read, but your account gets a “does not follow instructions” counter added to it.

The staff then laugh about you on their smoke break.

‘Ultra wealthy’ Gen Xers are proving more resistant to returning to the office. (archive.is)

It's funny how the narrative changes when a group can actually fight back. Most of the Gen-Xers I know in tech aren't going back to the office, not because they are ultrawealthy but because they are getting old, are virtually irreplaceable, and are prioritizing life over work after having survived the pandemic....

RecallMadness ,

It’s just more shifting the goalposts.

By lowering the bar on what “wealthy” is, it starts targeting those chanting “eat the rich” at each other.

Timmy the Zer sees Dave the Xer with a house and car and equates that with wealth and starts blasting. While the actual wealthy hide away in their riches and are left alone.

Come April, NZ will be charging EVs road user charges using the same price-per-kilometre mechanism diesel (diesel not have a fuel levy) vehicles use.

You can (or at least could) put Bravia TVs into “pro mode” and turn off all the shit.

  • treasure hunting without a license.

I suspect it’s a cost/capability/requirements thing.

The larger the corporation, the more likely they’re going to have SSO as a minimum requirement. The more inflexible your customers are, the more you can charge.

RecallMadness ,

Its true. The number of women who have declined a second date because I’m abhorrently boring.

The only reason I can think of to explain it is my 20 pairs of identical socks.

Google-Wave your Google-Pay-Meet device over the Google-Reader and we’ll Google-Optimize your purchase so you can get back to Google-Hangouting with your friends faster than you can say “watch Google Play Movies & TV on Android Auto for phone screens”

RecallMadness ,

“Android auto for phone screens” is another product they killed: https://www.androidpolice.com/google-kills-android-auto-for-phone-screens/

I’m reminded I had a classmate who was Yugoslavian.

At the time I had no idea what was going on in the world at the time.

A bottle is hard to rinse lid or not.

Wouldn’t you just rough chop the material and then rinse it?

Because the network is old and the trains don’t have room for non folding bikes.

A normal bicycle is going to block entrances and exits to carriages, and in the case of an emergency that could be fatal.

How Quora Died (slate.com)

“Why Do So Many Music Venues Use Ticketmaster?” “What’s It Like to Train to Be a Sushi Chef?” “How Do Martial Artists Break Concrete Blocks?” If you were looking for answers to such questions 10 years ago, your best resource for finding a thorough, expert-informed response likely would have been one of the most...

I think Something will have to change quite significantly.

Search engines give heavy weighting to uniqueness of content. And with Lemmy content being replicated across the fediverse that doesn’t exactly happen.

And I’m not sure you can set a canonical URL that’s off site. And then, if it does and that site goes down, you “lose” the content.

RecallMadness ,

Hey I was going to make something like this myself. Hah! Personal projects. As if they go anywhere.

I’m installing this tonight.

If people generally atent buying, there’s still People that need to buy (businesses, oems, etc)

They’re just doing the ol covid ratchet. Tightening the thumbscrews on the people who can’t opt out.

Doesn’t affect their bottom line much if nobody’s choosing to buy.

Houses are pretty terrible for a multitude of factors:

  • urban sprawl
  • congestion
  • pollution
  • high cost public works
  • low income for public bodies doing those works
  • environmental erosion
  • flood protection

We should be building apartments that everyone can own, live and be happy in. It shouldn’t be reserved for home owners.

RecallMadness ,

It’s nearly as if there’s no single solution. Houses suck and apartments suck for completely different reasons.

(But tbh, nearly all of the reasons you mentioned apartments suck have been maybe an issue once 10+ years of living in apartments)

RecallMadness ,

Literally the first image in that page is a picture of Singapores public housing, and a claim that they have the highest home ownership rates in the world.

It’s nearly as if public housing can work?
