TwoCubed ,

I'm gonna go ahead and believe this post is sarcasm, ok? Because this is exactly the kind of bullshit these morons would argue with.

TwoCubed ,

What does that have to do with your initial comment? And have you ever heard of photovoltaics? The fuck does that have to do with emotion?

I myself still drive an ICE, because I don't want to afford an EV yet (they're extremely expensive in Germany). An EV would be ideal for me however. I produce a shitload of energy with the PV on my roof. In the last 30 years I've lived here, we had exactly one power outage that was fixed within an hour. We brutally overproduce wind and solar power, EVs can actually help store that surplus energy (think vehicle to grid).

Maybe you should inform yourself before you make a fool of yourself.

Unless that was sarcasm again, because that was just such a dumb comment. Jesus.

TwoCubed ,

Mate, you ever stop to think that maybe you are the one falling for right wing propaganda? No one here is saying that it's time for full EV. That'd never work. No one is being forced either. It's a transition. ICEs will be here for decades to come. It'd be nice to have less of them however. Plus EVs can be a puzzle piece in solving energy storage, so full renewables becomes feasible.

You're blatantly ignoring scientific data and logic and are just parroting boulevard magazine level bullshit. Seek help, you're definitely on the side of ignorant people who are afraid of change.

TwoCubed ,

You're absolutely right! In Germany this type of behavior is even propagated by conservative parties. They're blaming the green party for acting on ideology. This is "emotion" paraphrased. It doesn't come as a surprise to me that simpletons adopt this narrative. Right wing propaganda essentially works by triggering emotions.

TwoCubed ,

Oh, so I guess the 15kWp on my roof that generated 14 MWh last year was just a dream then.

What went wrong in your life?

TwoCubed ,

You get that idea because no one actually browses the internet anymore. All people ever do is use fucking social Media and that's about it. No one's using Limewire to download porn/music, no one's using warez websites anymore, there are trustworthy porn aggregators so no one needs to visit dubious websites anymore.

Viruses are still a thing, and as someone already mentioned, chrome and edge themselves are spyware. Phishing is the more prodominant modus operandi nowadays.

But maybe people would like a standalone device, without the distraction a regular smartphone brings.

I'm not defending this thing as AI in its current state is near useless, bar some niche applications. But the decision to make it a standalone device isn't really controversial in my opinion.

TwoCubed ,

I make memories in winter too though. Nothing better than playing in the snow with your little daughter. Or ice-skating.

Also, pubs are fucking great in the winter.

That said, I do prefer the summers we have here. The temperature is always around 23-27 °C here, which is great. Also very little humidity.

TwoCubed ,

You can use Revanced for example. Alphabet is trying to fuck that up too, but it's still going strong. Plus, a revanced YouTube is a lot better than the regular app. Want to get rid of Shorts? Revanced will let you get rid of those shitty videos for good. Hate sponsor messages in Videos? Revanced will let you integrated sponsorblock.

The day that revanced won't work anymore is the day I'll stop using YouTube.

TwoCubed ,

I don't know man, I loved YouTube back in the days when people made videos for shits and giggles. No one expected money from that.

TwoCubed ,

Given how terrible Teams performes, I'd dread to have merely 8GB to run it on.

TwoCubed ,

Gojira are environmental and humanist activists to a certain degree. At least in their music that is.

Plus they fucking rock, holy shit.

TwoCubed ,

I despise these blurred backgrounds. I understand if you use it when working from home and don't have a dedicated office, but so many people do it even when they're at the corporate office. The flickering is just super annoying.

TwoCubed ,

If your holders are responsible people, this will never happen.

TwoCubed ,

The dangers outside again being man-made shit like wanktanks and stroads. Sounds like a ver American problem too. I'm fine with my cats outside in Germany. I just program the cat flap to not let them out in the morning and at night. All they catch that way are mice. Plus they don't get killed by cars as I live in a liveable neighborhood.

TwoCubed ,

I believe you can simply leave it unregistered and it'll still work indefinitely. Plus you aren't getting updates forced down your throat, since you're not connected to the internet.

As the Internet Gets Scarier, More Parents Keep Their Kids’ Photos Offline (getpocket.com)

Here's a non-paywalled link to an article published in the Washington Post a few days ago. It's great to see this kind of thing getting some mainstream attention. Young children have not made an informed decision about whether they want their photos posted online.

TwoCubed ,

Lol, no. Very accessible AI tools can make the pictured kids do whatever the fuck the creator wants. It's easier than ever to steal identities and ruin lives. The internet still is full of porn and gore but that hardly is the problem. Also, brainwashing via social media is a really big and scary problem. The internet absolutely is scarier then aver before.

TwoCubed ,

Who's talking about outlawing anything? I simply stated that the internet has indeed become a scarier place compared to the past.

Also, parents are responsible for their kids and the kids aren't capable of consenting to publishing their pictures as they can't understand the implications that come with it. Grown-ups can do whatever the hell they want, though I feel a general education on how the Internet works might be a good idea.

TwoCubed , (edited )

Yeah, BYD is massively subsidized by the government, mainly to try to destroy the western EV market. I'm really on the fence on that one. On the one hand, I'd like our car Industry to be a bit more disruptive and come up with cheaper solutions (fuck SUVs, the German car Industry is just making huge luxury cars that are way too expensive, both capex and opex wise). On the other hand, I don't want Winny the Pooh gaining influence on the west.

TwoCubed ,

Mate, you should leave your emotions out of these kind of discussions. It'll just have the opposite effect of what you'd like. Please stick to the facts.

TwoCubed ,

This may be true for the USA. In Germany the biggest killer is agriculture, followed by buildings, then cars and then come the cats. I'm guessing this is the reason for the controversy regarding this topic. Cats aren't that big a problem in Germany. Especially if you have a programmable cat flap that leaves the cats inside during morning and evening times. During daytime they don't catch shit.

TwoCubed ,

First off, it's a load of bullshit that Germany's economy is tanking. Second, yeah it is kinda important, but it's just a fucking stretch of slightly lower productivity after a massive increase due to catching up what was missed out on during Covid.

Fuck these alarmists. They just want the workers to maintain this bullshit productivity, which has sent many people into a burnout.

I'll fight you if I catch you doing that in public. Might even murder you if I'm feeling cute.

    TwoCubed ,

Yah, they're really nice. But them not folding up annoys me so goddamn much.they take up way too much space so I end up with them hanging around my neck all the time, which can become uncomfortable.

    TwoCubed ,

Cans are great from an energy-consumption point of view when viewing the entire lifecycle of a can.

    TwoCubed ,

Also, good gear helps. But if you don't know what you're doing, then the best gear won't do you much good.

    TwoCubed ,

I have an iPhone for work and a pixel that I use privately.

There's like one or two high quality apps on the iPhone that are amazing but that kinda sums up the positive aspects of the iPhone. I absolutely hate the user experience. Android is simply better at this.

But I do agree with you. They're just bloody phones. Do people really still give a shit? I'm actually pretty sick of these phones. The pixel 7 Pro is the first phone that works the way I want it to and I'd like to simply keep on using this phone for the next 30 years if possible because I don't want to spend any more money on these shitty rectangles.

    TwoCubed ,
    • can't charge the phone when the USB port is in use
    • can't use the aux input of any external devices
    • can't use the headphones with anything else
    • shitty experience as someone else here mentioned
    • ...

I like my Pixel 7 Pro but its also my first phone without a headphone jack and I hate it. Bluetooth is such a shitty standard and the USB dongles suck ass too. Why the fuck did they have to get rid of something so simple and practical...

    TwoCubed ,

Yeah, I hink its super useful too. But i usually use win+d.

    TwoCubed ,

Not really. We do have to make sure to empty the container as good as possible though.

    TwoCubed ,

Printing on bottles is a thing. Even in vomit-inducing vibrancy and 69 million shades. Problem is, it inhibits line speed. Higher line speed = more money.

    TwoCubed ,

Stop spouting this nonsense please. It might be true for the USA, but other countries have their shot together and in fact do recycle plastic.

    TwoCubed ,

The real crime here is that you bought Barilla instead of DeCecco.

    TwoCubed ,

Our 3 cats kill maybe a total of 5 birds and 10 mice a year. They can't reproduce and prefer to stay inside for most of the year. They're not a problem, as many new studies have found out. At least in northern Germany. It might be a bigger problem elsewhere though. Just trying to point out that your criticism may only apply to certain areas.

    TwoCubed ,

Lol, kinda dumb to use a heavily insulating material such as glass to slap on both sides of the phone.

    TwoCubed ,

I miss the times where plastic was used in phones. Glass cracks and feels clumsy and insulates. Metal transfers energy from impact to the components inside. Plastic just cracks but at least absorbs some of the energy. And is easily replaceable and feels way better.
