If you don't watch it it looks like nothing.

UckyBon ,

Fuck off you racist piece of shit.

UckyBon ,

Broken-English speaking Asians. I'm one of them. No go on and fuck your fat white bitch. The racist mods here will ban me soon for calling ya'll out. Ruud is a racist too. Fuck him and his Nazi gang.

It's not for nothing that Lemmy.World defederates from the non-racist instances. Ever thought about that?

After announcing increased prices, Spotify to Pay Songwriters About $150 Million Less Next Year (www.billboard.com)

When Bloomberg reported that Spotify would be upping the cost of its premium subscription from $9.99 to $10.99, and including 15 hours of audiobooks per month in the U.S., the change sounded like a win for songwriters and publishers. Higher subscription prices typically equate to a bump in U.S. mechanical royalties — but not...

UckyBon ,

That's great! Not sure where you live (because shipping), but a lot of artists (I listen to) have limited physical releases on Bandcamp. Sometimes it's worth the extra few bucks. My digital collection is bigger tho.

So I actually do spend more on musicians than only streaming services CEO people. There is of course the ecological aspect of the production of the physical releases, but I don't drive nor eat meat. I'd buy their stuff at a concert too.

I use Slsk for my other needs.

Nothing. There is a lot of anti-asian racism going on here on Lemmy.

UckyBon , (edited )

Then buy similar hardware from a competitor that meets your needs. I mean, Apple was never innovative, so you surely can get something better somewhere else?

UckyBon ,

The user only stated they can't think of a use-case for the hardware, and therefore innovation is useless. They don't even have to use it.

UckyBon ,

When I was a kid in the late 80s/early 90s, we had a toy-library across from our house. You could rent all kinds of toys for a week, extend if needed, and return it when the kids got bored with it. Good times.

They also had LEGO, and every piece had to be accounted for on return.

They went out of business when people started buying their own GameBoys and PlayStations.

A smoothie. Or salad rolls. Or salad tacos.

Croutons, or meat, are quite common in salads. You can shape foods a certain way.

If you think a salad is just a sad bunch of leaves you haven't lived.

UckyBon ,

That's the secret ingredient of emo.

UckyBon ,

Oh the bugs 🐛

Did you know that almonds are really thirsty and avocado's are shipped around the moon.

UckyBon ,

DDG tries very hard to push Amazon and Ebay to me. They're not even available in my country 😅

UckyBon ,

I don't know why they would need my location/region. They're already trying too hard to advertise stuff to me. Isn't the internet like, international? Other search engines I never get that Ebay/Amazon stuff, it's a DDG feature for whatever IP I get.

UckyBon ,

Paying is for people who don't know how to download.

Most content on those services isn't even worth your time.

UckyBon ,

I use both AirVPN and Mullvad, and certain websites block them too, but it depends on which country and which server you're connected too.

UckyBon ,

From your little comment we can tell that YOU think you know what's best for the user :) Keep it up.

UckyBon ,

Why would you care? Are you that insecure?

UckyBon ,

People buy anything because of trends. Not just Apple products.

UckyBon ,

The powerpoint has a logo I made in Paint and a meme at the beginning and a meme at the end. Also the animations are bliss.

Fairbuds are Fairphone’s proof that we really could make better tiny gadgets (arstechnica.com)

But of course we all know that the big manufacturers don't do this not because they can't but because they don't want to. Planned obsolescence is still very much the name of the game, despite all the bullshit they spout about sustainability.

UckyBon ,

It's called feel-good marketing. Similar to organic veggies or ethical coffee from Starbucks.

UckyBon ,

Of course, that's part of the marketing idea. Starbucks (and many others with feel-good marketing) did the exact same, until it leaks that it wasn't quite the truth.

It's not for nothing that Fairphone is guilt-tripping in rich countries ;) But still exploiting poor countries.

And downvote me what you want. It doesn't make you immune for cheap marketing tricks. People with a Fairphone are the same kind of people who brag about how their cup of Starbucks saved a life, stepped right into the trickery.

UckyBon ,
spoiler

In the movie theater the only real pop should come from a gun corn.

UckyBon ,

Now I need to start eating popcorn when reading books.

UckyBon ,

And Reddit wants you to do that without protection.

UckyBon ,

I have the same experience, but mostly from VPN servers located in Singapore. They're all blocked, or protected by some Cloudflare CAPTCHAS that seem to be much harder to pass than those of the early 2010s.

UckyBon ,

But do it in private, don't let my xz.

UckyBon ,

That's another logical fallacy: Argument from authority

UckyBon ,

Across the board indeed. Scrutiny in code is one thing, where this story, as far as is known right now, really went south is the abuse of a trusted, but vulnerable, member of the community.

I know the (negative) spotlight is targeting Jia Tan right now (and who knows if they (still) exist), but I really hope Larhzu is doing okay. Who's name is mentioned in the same articles.

Mental health is a serious issue, that, if you read the back story, is easily ignored or abused. And it wasn't an unknown in this story. Don't only check the code, check up on your people too.

UckyBon ,

Experience doesn't matter if you don't read Wikipedia links given to you by random people :)

Edit:

I'm actually making that comment based on

has another tone to "in my experience as"

Didn't actually want to educate you, but I feel this edit won't hurt. Literally.

UckyBon ,

You're assuming I'm assuming.

UckyBon ,

Because the way this conversation started was a logical fallacy you weren't aware of. I like to teach.

You're dragging it too. I know now, you are not one to learn. But can you at least learn from this and move on?

UckyBon ,

Just the amount of text you wrote which I'll never read shows how you'll always try to prove your point, even if it was based on a fallacy to begin with. Just go and live a life my friend.

UckyBon ,

Monitoring DNS requests to their own servers.

UckyBon ,

You do know that the content in the iTunes Store isn't the same in each country?

UckyBon ,

Many people don't listen to local music or pop music. It's very relevant if you can only get real music on a physical medium.

And out of everything available iTunes is your first choice too?

Soms people here on Lemmy are even more insufferable than any other social media.

Don't you dare buy a cd with the music you like. BUY FROM ITUNES, while in the next thread they say FUCK APPLE.

UckyBon , (edited )

Bullshit. I have an iPad from 2011 still in use, Macbook from 2012 still fine running Debian, etc.

I understand that if you're tech incompetent you need to throw shit out after 2 years, but don't blame the rest of us for the amount of trash you produce.

Edit: Funny how people downvote someone else for their own dumb actions. You're all consumers, and bad ones at it apparently.

UckyBon ,

Don't buy the shit you know you won't use in a decade. Not that hard.

Google will start showing AI-powered search results to users who didn't opt in (www.engadget.com)

If you're in the US, you might see a new shaded section at the top of your Google Search results with a summary answering your inquiry, along with links for more information. That section, generated by Google's generative AI technology, used to appear only if you've opted into the Search Generative Experience(SGE) in the Search...

UckyBon ,

We're in the technology sub. People here are old enough to know how to Google (old forums, preferably Reddit, as Lemmy is absent), they don't know how to use an AI effectively (just look at how they're trying to justify that). Don't worry about the downvotes and their nonsense responses. Those are the same people who microwave their water instead of using an electric kettle.

UckyBon ,

As on all social media people here (group)think that they are the smartest. But Lemmy is also a bubble, one with people who don't want to innovate or experience new things. Very weird for something so tech focused.

UckyBon ,

Google is way better than Apple for sure.

Sadly Fairphone isn't that fair as it isn't sold in the countries it sources its materials and labor from. Heck of a marketing trick if you ask me.
