I mean yeah but there is also a concept of an animal getting used to captivity and not being able to survive in the wild anymore. So releasing them like that is just a death sentence.

This is what I was able to take a picture of after driving out into rural northern Oregon. Wasn't this clear to the naked eye but you could still faintly see it and it showed up good on camera.

WarlordSdocy ,

It just makes me think of the scenes in the Ready Player One movie when they're in the place with all the people in debt to the company who are trapped on something like this to be forced to work in VR for the company.

WarlordSdocy ,

Theoretically if Amazon drones become wide spread in the environment and I capture one, attach a flamethrower to it, and the above scenario happens after I release it back into the wild, would that defense then apply as Amazon drones are native to the environment?

WarlordSdocy ,

Then once you do that find a spatial anomaly that causes a time loop so you can keep trying till you get it.

Fake Photos, Real Harm: AOC and the Fight Against AI Porn (www.rollingstone.com)

In 2023, more deepfake abuse videos were shared than in every other year in history combined, according to an analysis by independent researcher Genevieve Oh. What used to take skillful, tech-savvy experts hours to Photoshop can now be whipped up at a moment’s notice with the help of an app. Some deepfake websites even offer...

WarlordSdocy ,

The problem also goes both ways though. Not only does it create fake things but it makes it much easier to discredit real things by just claiming that it's deep faked.

WarlordSdocy ,

For me it's always the other way around, I get a fry in my onion rings.

WarlordSdocy ,

I mean yeah that's what monopolies do. They eliminate competition by either buying it out or lowering their prices/improving service to drive them out of business so they can then raise prices again. Just cause a small company can come in and make things better while they're able to be around doesn't mean we shouldn't go after these monopolies and cut them down so they can't have this power.

WarlordSdocy ,

Probably companies like Comcast making sure there isn't anything to disrupt their monopolies. Another reason to break them up so they can't have that much power.

WarlordSdocy ,

Yeah except with there being only 27 stores in the US that use this tech if you have 1000 people reviewing the purchases is it really a machine learning system or are you just outsourcing the process to people in another country.

WarlordSdocy ,

Yeah I've always assumed incognito mode is just for when you don't want to have it save to your browser history or if you want to be able to log into a second account on a website.

WarlordSdocy ,

I'm pretty sure this is that motivational quote generator that's been around for a while, don't remember the link to it.

WarlordSdocy ,

I mean acting like American tech companies aren't basically an arm of the American intelligence services is a bit ridiculous too. Just cause they also make money and have to compete in the "fair market" doesn't change that. If anything it makes it worse cause they'll sell their data to anyone, whether that be America or China. I'm not saying what TikTok does is good, I'm saying all these companies are bad and focusing on one like this because it's foreign is dumb.

Fewer people are using Elon Musk’s X as the platform struggles to attract and keep users, according to analysts (www.nbcnews.com)

Data from two research firms and figures published by Musk and X suggest a deteriorating situation for X by some metrics. Musk has marketed it as the world’s “town square,” but in number of users it continues to lag far behind social media rivals that focus on video, such as Instagram and TikTok. ...

WarlordSdocy ,

Yeah I think if anything twitter is a lesson in how even if you try to give users only positive ways to interact they will find ways to use them to interact negatively. Whether that be quote retweeting or ratioing.

WarlordSdocy ,

Wouldn't it still be true then cause you wouldn't want to go to something that's boring and draining? I mean at least personally I don't feel anxious about going out to events and stuff but I more just don't feel motivated to cause staying home by myself sounds nice. Especially if it's something that doesn't sound that fun. But once I actually go I'm fine except for it being tiring after a while. I mean at the end of the day it does probably vary from person to person cause humans are complex.

WarlordSdocy ,

The person I replied to said social outings made them bored and tired after a while. But like I said even among introverts it probably varies exactly how people feel about going out and socializing.

WarlordSdocy ,

I think the distinction here is between people and businesses. Is it the fault of people on social media for the acts of others? No. Is it the fault of social media for cultivating an environment that radicalizes people into committing mass shootings? Yes. The blame here is on the social medias for not doing more to stop the spread of this kind of content. Because yes even though that won't stop this kind of content from existing making it harder to access and find will at least reduce the number of people who will go down this path.

WarlordSdocy ,

I wouldn't say Firefox sucks but there are definitely some things that made me use Edge occasionally back when I used Firefox as my main browser. It was mainly stuff like a webpage that doesn't support Firefox and extensions not having a Firefox version. Which sure aren't problems with FireFox, it's more a problem of it not having enough adoption, but to an end user if the thing they wanna use doesn't work in FireFox but works in Chrome then that's FireFox's fault.

WarlordSdocy ,

I mean at least for video games especially ones that are live service games having a place to go to talk about the game and new changes is really nice and still a thing I miss a lot about Reddit.

Ex-Activision CEO Bobby Kotick looks to buy TikTok amid shutdown fears - Dexerto (www.dexerto.com)

TikTok has been at the center of controversy for the United States government in the last few years. Particularly, members of the Senate believe China-based parent company ByteDance could spy on its users and share information with the Chinese Government....

WarlordSdocy ,

Then maybe this should be the time to curtail all social media apps from being able to spy on users. But no they won't do that cause the US government uses that data for itself happily. So instead they make legislation that allows them to broadly target any social media app they mark as "controlled by a hostile foreign power". Which just sounds like a way for them to target any social media app that isn't US based and that they can't control in some way. I don't like TikTok and I think it should be forced to stop spying or be banned, but the same standard should be applied to all websites, apps, etc.

WarlordSdocy ,

Yeah but I doubt it's the developers going after emulators like this. It's the higher ups and legal teams I imagine.

WarlordSdocy ,

I feel like Reddit atleast had more other stuff to dilute the news and politics stuff. But without a lot of the smaller communities from Reddit that used to contribute to my home page it feels like all I get is memes and news.

WarlordSdocy ,

I mean most new technologies have a period of explosive growth followed by eventually slowing down and making only gradual gains. So it really just depends if we're near the end of that development or if there's still more explosive changes to come.

WarlordSdocy ,

One of those things is really not like the others.

WarlordSdocy ,

I don't like Tucker Carlson or Putin but the idea that Tucker Carlson would be platforming Putin is stupid. He's the leader of Russia, he is his own platform. He can make a video and every news agency will show it and report on it. He doesn't need a platform, he just inherently has one

WarlordSdocy ,

I've noticed that without prime you can still get free shipping if you just have a big enough order, so as long as you don't buy a ton of small purchases individually but instead save up what you need for bigger purchases then the only advantage prime has is the shorter shipping time. Which I've also noticed sometimes that the shipping without prime will often arrive a day or two earlier then it's original estimate, probably cause Amazon has optimized for that shorter 2 day shipping. It's still not usually 2 days but for most stuff it's either a week or less which is usually plenty fast for anything I get on Amazon.

WarlordSdocy ,

Good luck with that, the highschool I went to had a hard enough time getting students to stop vaping at school and during class, smartphones would be a much bigger battle. I graduated in 2019 and I still remember when they would try to crack down on cell phone use, never really affected me that much cause I only ever used my phone during class if I was done with everything but I still saw it go the same way every time. It would always only ever last for a month or two before the teachers just gave up because in the end if someone doesn't wanna pay attention during class taking away their distraction isn't gonna make them. They'll just find some other distraction like talking to people or just zoning out. The problem is school just isn't engaging and sure you can blame cell phones and social media for making it harder for people to pay attention to things that they don't wanna do. But that doesn't mean the solution is to not allow them during school, cause I've seen from experience that doesn't help even if you manage to take away the phones, which already is really hard without impacting students who are following the rules negatively.

WarlordSdocy ,

If anything more recently schools have been going the opposite direction. Moving away from Windows towards Chrome Books which is probably even worse from a being prepared for the future stand point.
