Any good email service except tutamail and proton ?

I am now using disroot . I don't care about anonymity or anything as I just wanna use it to connect to my bank, ID and buy/book shit etc. Which all have my phone number, address, name etc anyway so no point in that . I just want the security privacy to be good enough that no one can easily hack it, steal my OTP, inbox etc and I...

lud ,

Why do they hate JS so much? Haven't they used the modern internet?

lud ,

Meanwhile, the vast majority of people making calls are still going to have only one speaker, so it'll still get downmixed to mono. Even if your phone has two, and you're not holding it next to one ear, they're still going to be so close together as to effectively be one point source.

No, lots of (probably most) phones and other devices has stereo speakers.

Either way headphones are most often used for this (you know like the thumbnail)

lud ,

That is not for Apple to decide. They should just follow the law.

lud ,

Imagine how much nicer a world we'd live in if everyone avoided alcohol.

lud ,

Is this some sort of reverse not all men or something?

No? I just wished for alcohol drinks to be banned world wide. Same with smoking and all the other bullshit that costs society a lot of money and decreases peoples health significantly.

lud ,

I'm not seriously suggesting that we ban all those things. That is impossible.

It's just my wish since they are so harmful.

Either way your response shows that it's not worth discussing anything with you.

lud ,

Yeah, what's "gaming" about this thing?

Red accents of course.

lud ,

I have bought from them twice and both times I bought using one of the deals and the price matched what they said in the ad.

They even adjusted the pre tax price so the after price matched the AD pricer, which is nice because my country has quite high taxes.

lud ,

Designing graphic cards is really fucking hard though plus they make the firmware.

lud ,

Not definitely, recall will be opt-in and only available on arm computers with a very specific ARM CPU

lud ,

Most corporations use enterprise or maybe Pro.

Schools mostly use the EDU version.

lud ,

I mean the old jokers weren't not psychopaths and they weren't exactly stable.

A social app for creatives, Cara grew from 40k to 650k users in a week because artists are fed up with Meta’s AI policies | TechCrunch (techcrunch.com)

Artists have finally had enough with Meta’s predatory AI policies, but Meta’s loss is Cara’s gain. An artist-run, anti-AI social platform, Cara has grown from 40,000 to 650,000 users within the last week, catapulting it to the top of the App Store charts....

Federated identity services

Like an SSO system?

lud ,

Comparing apples to oranges are we?

lud ,

Unfortunately banking apps are a necessity for lots of people.

lud ,

They didn't ask if Google was a Russian site, they asked if the PDF was hosted on a Russian site (which is a no, in site case)

lud ,

People always say the twitter has lots of CP and that the fediverse has lots of CP but I have yet to see any in my entire life (luckily)

lud ,

Go to twitter and search for "porn", "pussy" or "dick" or whatever you desire.

Twitter has had porn for ages.

lud ,

True, but if it genuinely works really well then does it really matter? Seems like the change would be a net positive.

lud ,

Pretty sure Wayland is installed by default and maybe even enabled by default on new installs.

On the login screen there should be a button to switch between x11 and Wayland.

lud ,

No not really, the GPUs that datacenters are buying doesn't even have a display output so they are useless to the vast majority of home users.

If you run a home lab then maybe.

lud ,

Personally, I wouldn't say "it doesn't use Wayland" when it absolutely can with a single mouse click and it works great.

lud ,

The most regular pc user probably only got a work computer that runs 10 or 11 and they will likely have no choice since most companies don't support Linux clients. My work actually does which is neat. I would absolutely use Linux at work, if working with Windows wasn't my job.

lud ,

I have never understood why people still like 7.

I thought it was decent when I last used it, but Win 10 is much better.

7 is fairly ugly and has a lot of missing stuff for 10.

Discord: Have you lost access to your email? no worries, just regain access to it! (lemmy.world)

I would have expected them to ask me to message them, in order to resolve the issue of not having access to my old email. Instead, they assume that I still have access to it, by simply contacting my email provider!...

lud ,

I doubt bruteforce has been used in one of these attacks. The service should detect a bot entering many combinations per second.

The main problem with SMS is that someone could social engineer the mobile operator support to give them a new SIM.

Probably not something you should worry too much about unless you are in any way a target, but still.

Spotify is raising the cost of Premium subscriptions, again (www.engadget.com)

Spotify is officially raising its Premium subscription rates in the US come July, following reports of the move in April. The platform is increasing its Individual plan from $11 to $12 monthly and its Duo plan from $15 to $17 monthly — the same jump as last year's $1 and $2 price hikes, respectively. However, its Family plan...

lud ,

You can switch to another service any time you want though.

lud ,

It's way cheaper though.

lud ,

Sync is great. It's also incredibly smart that you can easily link to settings in comments.

lud ,

Some of us like free stuff though and the post never said that it was supposed to be a list of FOSS projects.

lud ,

looks like there is now a added note they aren't all FOSS.

The post hasn't been edited.

lud ,

Yeah that would have been nice but it would be time consuming for the poster.

lud ,

Why?

lud ,

I think it sounds like there are huge gains to be made in energy efficiency instead.

Energy costs money so datacenters would be glad to invest in better and more energy efficient hardware.

lud ,

Lol, got any more angry words?

lud ,

It can be helpful if you know how to use it though.

I don't use it myself a lot but quite a few at work use it and are very happy with chatgpt

lud ,

South Korea?
I heard they are insane when it comes to exams.

lud ,

Pretty much the same is true everywhere else though. A4 is just extremely common. All documents are printed in A4.

But if you want another size for a sign, blueprint or maybe a postage sticker it's easy to get another size.
If you want A5 just print the same thing twice on an A4 and cut it in half after or cut the paper in half first and then print on it.

If you want A3 you will obviously need a bigger printer (or you just tape two A4 together if it doesn't need to look good.)

lud ,

Nah that will just ruin regional pricing for those that actually needs it.

lud ,

I think the newer wallpaper is artificial.

This wallpaper isn't default anymore since a few years back.

lud ,

Iirc the "light mode" wallpaper they are referring to is the newer one.

When windows 10 came out it only had this one and it is no longer default.

lud ,

Maybe but it's a far cry from Mozilla being an advertising company.

They aren't even remotely close to companies like Google.

lud ,

For you personally? Not much at all. For a real archive future proofing is great.

lud ,

It's obviously not intended to run on an Arduino or something.

lud ,

You can run bitlocker without TPM using a usb flash drive instead. I think you can also store the key in your mind as a password.

lud ,

In my school they used A1 (or some other A) licences for students. They are probably cheaper than other licenses but they are not free.

I have no idea if they have opted out the competition (whatever that means).

Our class never used any normal windows client OSes (on bare metal anyway). We primarily used Windows server evaluation or Linux depending on the course. I think the other classes primarily used VDI.

Do you have a source for this:

Microsoft will gracefully give lower licensing costs for students if the school opts in Microsoft and opts out the competition.

And what do you mean by opt out? Do they sign a contract saying that they won't use Linux? That seems extremely unlikely, why would they even care? Seems more likely to be an IT policy because they want to manage the devices or they don't want to provide support for non Windows or Mac devices.

If you have no evidence or source, do you know for sure that it's happening (as in you worked in IT or similar role for the university) or it's a rumour you heard?

Best Local Smart Lock for Privacy/Security

I’m solidly leaning towards a Schlage Connect Lock due to its local only Zwave capabilities (which has the benefit of also extending battery life). I was strongly considering the Aqara U100 for its many features, but based on what I’ve seen I can foresee it being a nightmare to get working locally with home assistant and the...

Yeah and anyone can throw a rock through the window.
