If they have some situations where LLM/Siri runs on device that would certainly do it!

makyo ,

I'm on their site now and the full suite is on sale - €90, not sure if that's the same for everyone's local schnorples.

makyo ,

I'm going to give Krita a try for some of the photobashing sort of stuff I do

makyo ,

100% agreed. I can't even count on my lockscreen activating sometimes, why would I feel okay about this?

makyo ,

Me either, and at least in my experience with Windows these things have a way of 'accidentally' turning themselves on after a random update or something

makyo ,

I'm skeptical of all that - surely they understand that roads carry more than just goods and services. It's such a basic part of society that you'd have to be from another planet to be confused about that and build a whole argument based on it.

makyo ,

There's this crazy theory floating around that humans only evolved to release all that carbon back into the atmosphere. I assume once we've finished that we'll no longer be needed.

makyo ,

And photographers when Photoshop was invented

makyo ,

Nah the secret is to push just enough out of the wrapper to have a bite and let the crumbs fall down into the wrapper, and repeat until you only have crumbs. Same with the second bar. Then just pour the crumbs into your mouth.

makyo ,

I second this, this has been my experience exactly. It's gotten so bad that not only do I not need the Google fallback, but I'm starting to feel like the DDG results are better than the Google ones in the first place.

makyo ,

Agreed, they don't even have the cash cow that some other free OSes have in their app stores.

makyo ,

I feel like I saw somewhere that men message dozens of times more women than vice versa. I get their non-nuanced temptation but you can hardly call a system that encourages one gender to incessantly spam the other 'engagement'.

makyo ,

There are a lot of problems keeping VR from going big and I think Meta's strategy of cornering the market is one of them. They think if they get all the exclusives they'll be the next iPhone but I think instead they're fragmenting an already tiny market which really needs a bunch of impressive experiences (and there still aren't a ton right now, even after years of VR development). I feel like the reverse would win them more users - they should win on hardware AND software but make their software available for any VR headset to use. Because right now they need to help create a market for VR because there really isn't one worth cornering yet.

makyo ,

I try to get out but you drag me back in

makyo ,

I wish someone would have told me when I was 20 that my lower back issues could be entirely avoided with some simple stretching and core strength exercises. I do three of each and it has almost completely solved my back pain:

  1. hamstring stretch, quad stretch, hip flexor stretch (do stretches every day)
  2. front plank, side plank, bridges or similar

As my back pain receeded I also began strength training which I think is also important.

Please, for the love of God, VOTE! (pawb.social)

I don't like Biden either, but anyone with half a brain knows there are two choices in the 2020 election. If we had a sane voting system, voting third party might be worth it, but as it stands, no one but you knows your favorite candidate exists and unless you want to become their campaign manager that will still be true in...

makyo ,

Step 1: defeat Trump
Step 2: help reshape Democratic party

Because the fact is, if we don't do step 1 first, we'll have our work cut out for us the next four or more years just being back in 'The Resistance'. Which you know isn't going to make the Dems more liberal, it's going to pull them to the right as more dissatisfied Trump voters finally peel off.

On the other hand, the more resounding of a defeat we can dish out to the GQP and MAGA, the easier it will be to send them into the wilderness to regroup politically so we can focus all of our energies on the Democratic party.

makyo ,

Sorry if I am missing your point - did you think he'd cater to conservatives?

makyo ,

Sorry I wasn't clear - I'm saying if you care about reshaping the Dems, you do it after we defeat Trump.

There is no guarantee it will be different this time, that's politics. But giving up on it isn't an option - politics happens to us whether we are active or not. But if you're hoping for change, it'll be a lot harder to see if Trump gets reelected. I promise you that.

makyo ,

Do you think it'll be easier or harder to get electoral reform passed if Trump is elected?

makyo ,

Okay so you're saying he isn't liberal enough I guess. I am pretty far left myself and would of course love more but I would argue that he's also gotten a lot of pretty great leftist stuff accomplished.

And while we should absolutely hold his feet to the fire to pull him further left, saying "earn my vote or else" with the 'or else' being Trump, is not a very practical threat. Like a cut off your nose to spite your face kind of stupid.

If you want to see the things you care about set back another four years OR MORE than sure, don't vote for Biden this year.

makyo ,

You're basically just repeating yourself now. Like it or not, you're parroting the played out lines that the Trumpist want us to repeat to strengthen their hand.

Politics isn't easy but 'burn it down because they're not catering to me' is not a responsible vote this year.

makyo ,

I'm sorry but this is basically the same argument that I got multiple others in this thread so instead of answering again, I'm going to ask you a question.

What exactly is y'alls game plan then? How do you think you'll benefit by punishing Biden and helping get Trump elected?

makyo ,

It's never too early to help shape the Democratic party, absolutely do it now. But it's a long process and if you can't see how it has changed in the last 20 years already I don't know what to tell you. And beating Trump is priority #1 if we're going to continue on that path.

makyo ,

I don't know what you're even asking - how do I personally plan to shape the party? If I could wave a magic wand I would but obviously it's something that is shaped by the collective and we all need to be engaged in the various areas we are passionate about.

This 'cater to me or else' sort of nihilism is the laziest sort of attitude and I get really tired of seeing it in liberal circles. I can tell you're passionate and are probably very politically active in your own ways, but so many people seem to think that withholding their vote will sove the problem and that it then somehow absolves them of having to do anything else.

makyo ,

If you want leftist change you keep doing the things you are hopefully already doing - joining political groups you are aligned with, making calls, donating, running for office, getting your friends involved, join a union or help start one, etc. etc. And you realize that it isn't going to happen overnight - it may not even happen in your lifetime. It's not easy or magic, especially with the things you seem to care about on the further left of the spectrum. That's going to be a steep hill to climb.

makyo ,

I'm arguing with other leftists because I have hope that I can help them make the right choice strategically while countering the rampant rightwing disinfo which like it or not, that's what you're parroting.

makyo ,

Abstaining from voting this election will drive the leftist cause backwards so not accomplishing anything would be much preferrable.

makyo ,

I'm sorry but you are blaming the wrong people for all of this

makyo ,

It's clear y'all are trolls at this point

makyo ,

Lucid dreaming isn't the same as sleep paralysis though. I've had several lucid dreams and it's great sleep - it has to be because it mostly happens during the deepest part of sleeping.

Would I want to work during a lucid dream though - hell no.

makyo ,

Ah I follow you. I've only had one or maybe two rare instances of sleep paralysys which were frightening. But I have had many many nights of ruminating sleep brought on by severe anxiety so I can definitely identify with what you're saying.

makyo ,

I was recently at a launch party Q&A and a guy in the audience actually asked whether quotas kept deserving men from the job. I shit you not - the product being launched was an educational game about equal treatment of women in the workforce. I guess that showed they were reaching the right people at least.

makyo ,

I still use it for some of the niche communities I can't get here but I'm more than happy to drop it if these new ads somehow manage to get past uBlock

makyo ,

You're exactly right - the problem is that the people who always talk about the good old days are the ones who are yearning for a more white and more male world. And they don't really care that those days weren't good because of the whiteness and maleness; they were good because unions were strong and taxes on the rich were high, etc. which bolstered and strengthened the middle class.

makyo ,

Someday I would love to drop the body of a '55 Chevy on an EV frame. Really bored by car styles these days for the most part but love the stuff that goes inside them quite a lot.

makyo ,

Man I feel you - those dumb engineering decisions that have been around for so long. I had to open a fuel tank to replace a fuel pump once which I'm sure some engineer was like 'well it's all fuel stuff so what's the problem' and that makes sense until the pump goes out and someone has to go in and replace it. I did replace it in my driveway but that was a real BS job and I did also decide then and there I wasn't going to do my own work anymore, which I'm sure the dealerships are/were quite happy about.

makyo ,

I was just the other day reading this article about how fast fashion has ruined vintage shopping because there's this decades-long gap now between when clothes were made to last and our more recent obsession with fast fashion. People used to discard clothes because they were out of style and not because they just looked like crap after 16 months.

makyo ,

All this plus I think it's important to say to first: be EXTREMELY careful if you feel the need to critique or criticize someone who is being helpful. Really think about if it's worth it. If what they're doing really isn't helping anything then maybe it's worth it!

BUT if you just think they could do it better or if they aren't doing it how you would do it, then think again. You might end up simply discouraging a helpful attitude that would have figured things out on their own if you had just given them a bit of vague encouragement and time.

makyo ,

Especially Google who is famous for randomly getting bored of developing and then suddenly cancelling services

We need trustworthy sources of news more than ever

makyo ,

Sure, that can be fair use, but only if using them can also be fair use

makyo ,

Not just the outputs but the models as well

My mom was on a plan with someone pre-Obamacare where it was obvious their policy was to reject every claim they get. She said she had to dispute every single one before they'd consider paying. Not sure if Obamacare fixed it but she moved over to Kaiser P. which is EXPENSIVE but they do seem to take really good care of you, no questions asked (when you're in their system, of course).

makyo ,

Heartwarming AND headquarters warming!

makyo ,

Agreed on all accounts except for weather updates. I got my watch for the health tracking and love it for it. But I have been slowly won over by the other little things that give me info about the world at a glance but don't take me out of it. Weather and directions especially.

I always tell people I wish the watch was the smart revolution instead of the phone because it augments daily life so well while our phones so easily become a distraction (though admittedly often a welcome one).

makyo ,

Maybe you just got a case without symptoms

makyo ,

Ugh I see what you mean - no I mean unlicensed as in 'they didn't bother to license copyrighted works' and public as in 'stuff they scraped from Reddit, Twitter, and etc. without permission from anyone'.
