Bunch of funkturd wankers are lying through their hole-ridden stinking teeth! Their whole goddamn business model is based on profiling. They know exactly who what where when why with whom for fuck’s sake.

nightwatch_admin ,

That Charlie Kirk looks like he fell face down on a glass floor and we’re looking at him from below

nightwatch_admin ,

Well, he did lose on Jeopardy, so I guess to balance it out he must have all the answers?

AI will continue to be shoved into every aspect of all of its products until morale improves

Stahp! I can only get so hard!

Going Dark: The war on encryption is on the rise. Through a shady collaboration between the US and the EU. (mullvad.net)

Under the slogan ‘Think of the children’, the European Commission tried to introduce total surveillance of all EU citizens. When the scandal was revealed, it turned out that American tech companies and security services had been involved in the bill, generally known as ‘Chat Control’ – and that the whole thing had been...

It is indeed true that some CAs have seriously misbehaved; however, browser builders are rather strict on the presence of the CAs they trust. Misbehaving or even simple errors are reasons for getting kicked out, after which certificates signed by those CAs are now no longer valid.

nightwatch_admin ,

You are technically correct, best kind of correct

nightwatch_admin ,

I agree, it’s far from perfect.

nightwatch_admin ,

Yes, they will. We’ve seen it before in mostly less serious cases: Diginotar, Türktrust, Symantec, etc. As brittle as the CA system can be, when there is real enough trouble, CAs do get revoked.

nightwatch_admin ,

Are you crying wolf again? Man… I can’t bear this anymore.

nightwatch_admin ,

Indeed, that’s exactly what it is. And godawful too.

nightwatch_admin ,

Far from any desire to give kudos to Google: Maps does allow offline maps.I had greater London available on my iphone recently, and that worked.

nightwatch_admin ,

This is a great question.
The obvious answer is to then go to London.
But if you are unable to do so AND have no mobile network, you can download the maps via avian carrier.

nightwatch_admin ,

I have seen some start a consultancy, sane job, better pay and strict agreements on presence. There’s probably also a whole heap of companies raking in real talent, motivated and eager to drive the former employer’s business into the ground.

PonyOS is not […] a Hurd .

Damn right. No one is a Hurd. I’ll be dead & buried long before that thing enters alpha status.

nightwatch_admin ,

Please don’t insult the pigs, they’re smart and sensitive creatures

nightwatch_admin ,

You don’t even need a calculator for a quick calculation, take the closest value of 10: 3x7=21x37 or easier 20x40 = 800 which is close to the actual number, 777.

nightwatch_admin ,

You mean RFC1918 private addresses? I guess they keep it at hand but it’s not really interesting to them. Almost all “client side” internet connections are behind a NAT connection, where private addresses are only unique to the router. So while your public address 1.2.3.4 is unique to you, your inside address 192.168.1.1 is only unique inside your LAN. Your neighbour will have the same address inside, but a different one outside, say 4.3.2.1.

nightwatch_admin ,

The Hurd hasn’t done anything properly in, what, 3 decades? I am actually surprised someone even remembers it.

Meta gave Netflix and Spotify access to users private messages (arstechnica.com)

in 2018, Facebook told Vox that it doesn't use private messages for ad targeting. But a few months later, The New York Times, citing "hundreds of pages of Facebook documents," reported that Facebook "gave Netflix and Spotify the ability to read Facebook users’ private messages."...

nightwatch_admin ,

Excellent! Such brutal sarcasm isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, I understand, but it is so to the point. Great job!

nightwatch_admin ,

Calm down Lennart. Also, upstart was better and not ancient.

nightwatch_admin ,

Yeah, I don’t know why. Upstart really was better.

nightwatch_admin ,

Not quite, network speeds have been measured in bps since the day the first packet got out of its egg.

Google Allows Creditors to Brick Your Phone (lemmy.world)

I installed NetGuard about a month ago and blocked all internet to apps, unless they're on a whitelist. No notifications from this particular system app (that can't be disabled) until recently when it started making internet connection requests to google servers. Does anyone know when this became a thing?...

nightwatch_admin ,

It was a command to the slaves using their services: “Don’t be evil.(We will know and judge)”

nightwatch_admin ,

Stupid monoculture is the cause, but let’s not fix that.

nightwatch_admin ,

The term “PC” is derived from the “IBM-compatible Personal Computer”, which basically meant it could run pc-dos and it’s bastard child ms-dos - you guessed it, made by microsoft.
Apple computers and many others in those days did not run those shoddy dos (disk operating systems) things, but had real Operating Systems like MacOS, BeOS, Amiga Workbench etc.

Well, look at it from the bright side: the person in this picture does have a roof over their head.

Do I need to slap an /s on it?

    nightwatch_admin ,

I think this reply makes clear it was an honest question.

    nightwatch_admin ,

What other materials? Aluminium cans, glass bottles, or the bleached skulls of thine enemies!

    From gadgetbahn to museum piece...

You know that self-driving bus the NSW government was trialling back in 2014?

Well, you can now see it in the Sydney Bus Museum.

    @fuck_cars

    Inside the self-driving bus.
A sign describing this futuristic vehicle.

Well, they could have had a chat with Rotterdam, NL, first: their Parkshuttle service has been running since 1999 and has recently been upgraded.

    nightwatch_admin ,

Say what you want but there’s no question on gender there

    nightwatch_admin ,

Is Apple acting in bad faith? Sure they are. But except for Mozilla and Proton, I see nothing but violently unethical Evil Corps, that soak the merest click in more trackers and profiling than there are humanoids in our galaxy, that sell this data to everyone and their mothers, that force you to pay undivided to the worst of humanity, interspersed with ads for miscellaneous utter garbage and burn up poor brown people moderating the illegal stuff passing by in their “social” feeds.

Probably because Apple a while ago, made it just a bit harder to track idevice users.

    nightwatch_admin ,

Few people think a criminal would be a good judge, and so I don’t think e.g. Facebook should be talking about this without fixing their own misdeeds, not spend boatloads of money lobbying against it. All these big tech bros are currently doing is throwing mud at each other (Google complaining about RCS in iMessage while at the same time breaking it themselves) - literally none of them is making any significant changes. So yeah, I think they should shut the F up and start doing something themselves.

    nightwatch_admin ,

    ok buddy

    nightwatch_admin ,

Honestly, I hope you’re right. I’m a frayed knot though.
