That seems a bit excessive, say all 8 billion people were using Google products, 8 million reviews would be 1 per thousand users which seems like many more than are needed since almost all users of Google are passive and don't create content.

nixcamic ,

But they don't have to review every video, just the ones that are flagged by the AI then contested, which is probably a fraction of a percentage of all of them.

nixcamic ,

Or just use Firefox.

nixcamic ,

Yeah it's just that I feel like if someone is still using freaking Chrome in 2024 then asking them to use something even more obscure than FF might be a bridge too far.

Cat And Girl can be really hard to understand. Go read a few dozen of them and you'll start to get the vibe. It's often told through the two of them having to disjointed conversations over eachother, much of which is just random observations or jokes, but there's usually an element that ties them both together. Also frequent collided sentences like this mix of garbage pail, North Atlantic garage patch, and sour/cabbage patch kids.

nixcamic ,

Even then it's added up the cheese, not the sauce. If you added white glue to the sauce you'd get some weird pink looking sauce.

nixcamic ,

Red glue.

And also all of their competition also kinda sucks. So like, Teams is worse enough that if you're using it every day you'll hate it but not worse enough that if you use it once or twice you'll notice.

I have very mixed feelings about Bukele but nobody is leaving because of him. Salvadorian emigration has slowed greatly under him and many people are actually moving back.

Correction: they still use AC motors, but those motors don't use line AC. It goes line AC > rectifier > DC > inverter board > variable frequency AC to run the compressor motor.

Most RV fridges just use DC motors, but there are some that use VFDs and AC motors.

nixcamic ,

I mean that's the least wrong part imo. I've ran a fridge off of a car battery and if it starts cold you can go a lot longer than that.

nixcamic ,

Nah if the fridge starts cold and you aren't constantly opening the door you can easily get 5 hours on a car battery.

nixcamic ,

I've also done the off grid thing and you can get way more than 2 hours on a car battery if the fridge is already cold and you aren't constantly opening the door. Also have ran modem full sized fridges on 1000w inverters. So YMMV.

W11 by default centers all taskbar icons, including the start menu. You can change it thank goodness but the default is really dumb.

nixcamic ,

Honestly I've had way more completely bricked Windows installs than Linux. Don't think I've ever managed to completely Bork a Linux install except when doing something extremely stupid. I've had Windows get to the point where no amount of SFC of dsim could get to go boot again just by having the power go out during an update or other fairly mundane issues.

nixcamic ,

I mean you can remove all remote admin rights on Windows too haha, remote gives you way more opportunities screw stuff up.

But usually on Linux you can boot in single user or chroot in from the installer and unhose whatever you hosed. Windows you get dism and SFC and if they don't work there's really not anything you can do.

nixcamic ,

I don't really see it this way it's just marketing. Saying "all other browsers descend from big bad corporate Apple" is scary, saying "all other browsers descend from another open source project" is meh.

nixcamic ,

I mean it's right here, just link to it?

But yeah if you search "hal fixing a light bulb".

nixcamic ,

Bro, listing a EU country as a place with real poverty is about as on key as the USA haha.

nixcamic ,

A: we're talking about Romania not Russia?

B: not American, live in the developing world.

C: my comment was more a dig at USA than anything else.

Ubuntu server w/ zfs on the main.

Have a little atom hp home server at my parents house that uses almost no power, that runs freebsd x86, zerotier one, and kopia. Free cloud backup 😁

nixcamic ,

I've used it three times today. Site down, geo-blocked, and a forum post with info I needed deleted.

nixcamic ,

This exactly.

Also trying to fit a bunch of awkward stuff off the scale and some of it is leaning against the edge and you have to balance everything just right cause heaven forbid it be off by a gram. Or it getting stuck because a bag doesn't weigh enough to register.

Like if you don't trust me fine but don't half ass it. If I'm gonna steal something from a grocery store it's gonna way more than a gram and sure as heck isn't gonna be an empty plastic bag.

While I understand what you're saying, the Venn diagram is almost a circle. Almost all people with uteruses are girls/women and almost all women/girls have a uterus. So don't "I don't understand how girls walk around with uteruses" is a sentence that resonates with almost all girls and/or uterus owners.

nixcamic ,

No I'm saying sometimes people will make a statement that doesn't cover every possible minority and that's just language. Cut them some slack.

Also there are lots of women without uteruses that aren't trans...

But like what would you want them to say, "I don't know how cis women who haven't had a hysterectomy and don't have any medical, genetic, or any other condition that precludes them from having a uterus, walk around with those things?"

Like, besides being just a ridiculous sentence, that somehow sounds much more exclusionary and transphobic than the original.

I'm maybe not doing a good job of putting this into words but going over the top with "but what about minority x they're different" actually ends up making things worse.

Like, while they aren't your words and I'm sure not your intention the overall message that ends up coming though to people after the sum of all these comments is "all women but trans women" which is not a great thing to be communicating.

Xbox actually has pretty decent parental controls.

Pixel hardware is some of the easiest to get/best/cost effective with an unlocked bootloader.

Treat the symptoms not the cause

Treat both. They usually give you a painkiller while setting your bones.

It's just such a stupid false dichotomy. Give the man the fish and teach him to fish. It's a lot easier to learn on a full stomach.

Uber slashes fees in Bangladesh as drivers keep taking rides offline (restofworld.org)

Jitu Jisan is a Pathao bike-taxi driver in Dhaka. But, he said, taking bookings through the ride-hailing app is always the last resort for him. Typically, he uses the Pathao app only to find a customer, and once he meets them, he turns off the app, strikes a direct deal, and goes khep....

nixcamic ,

What usually happens in Guatemala is you'll take one ride with them through Uber and if they seem cool and are from your area you get their number and just message them in the future to ask for a ride.

In fact, what I use is Maté (an English way of writing the Spanish word Mate).

As a Spanish speaker I'd just like to say

A: wtf is this even supposed to mean?
B: mate and maté are two entirely different words.
C: The mate desktop environment is named after hierba mate, no é.

Commercial Flights Are Experiencing 'Unthinkable' GPS Attacks and Nobody Knows What to Do (www.vice.com)

Commercial Flights Are Experiencing 'Unthinkable' GPS Attacks and Nobody Knows What to Do::New "spoofing" attacks resulting in total navigation failure have been occurring above the Middle East for months, which is "highly significant" for airline safety.

Do none of the systems, GPS, glonass etc. use encryption or authentication of any form?
