Private WiFi camera for out of town viewing. Live view only. No storage.

Is there a WiFi camera with an app for viewing when away from home, that has decent privacy? Plug and play would be nice. Limited time to do major setup as in 2 hours tops. Cost is fine nothing into 4 digits. Recording not neccesary. No storage is needed. Simple live viewing is all.

i personally stay away of any "cloud" connection like hik connect...

By cloud connection I mean that the device connects to the provider's cloud (vpn) and you(end user) connect to the provider to view your OWN video footage.

In terms of privacy this is disaster because the provider can view/process as in AI all your video footage in real time. Further the provider can track the shit out of us and do many other nasty things...

No, there are no confusions.
Changing the "id" like the MAC address or the IMEI has no impact on any system.

Its just like a new device joins a network.

For example, when a client device gets its IP from the dhcp server on a router, which allocates a random ip from a specific pool, it does not influence anything like ip packets routing...

The real issue is that it is forbiden, BECAUSE if you randomize it you do not have an unique id anymore to trace back a specific device...

But in our discussion it was implied/assumed a random UNIQUE IMEI or MAC address.

For example most of people have a pile of unused older phones which are NOT IN USE and you could use thoses IMEIs without issues.

Always I see this kind of "mixed" good/bad points comments. Wonder what it is and where does it come from...

Now to get on track: The topic is simple ANY computer infrastructure CONSUMES a LOT of POWER so if you want to be easy on the PLANET RESOURCES we need to you use it WISELY

Here are some suggestions:

  • stop people surveillange(aka gathering "advertising" data) and data hording from people devices like smartphones, routers, tv, smart anything like your fridge, ai assistant and other useless shit that only SPIES on you/us/me!

  • stopping running companies servers that do nothing and are useless or created for scopes that are not meaningful or that provide a real use;

  • stop creating and working for companies that do not promote/create technologies that support people and their long run sustainability...

...

I can continue with so many examples...

Crowds contribuitions are what they know it will always work.

There will be enough ignorant and people lacking basic knowledge of the devices they use (or install in their homes) that will eventually give up everyones data/identity/etc.

So even if you do everything perfect and have the reaources in terms of concealing your privacy or (what remained of it) the first time you meet your girlfriend and have dinner along with her iPhone all your work vanishes in a microsecond.

This is most frustrating to people who know what i'm talking about!

What you can do?
Make people responsible, teach them!

I miss the days of VHS and DVD shelfs in homes, for example. If you bought the tapes and had them in your home, no corporate entity could alter those tapes without your consent, monitor how many times you watch them, sell your data to whomever they please without your knowledge, roll out new mandatory conditions to a 'user...

If one is to compare apple to apples, imho the decision to choose between Signal, Whatsapp and Telegram and other "messengers" is obvious and clear.

Signal is fully open source!
You can run it on-premises, if you know your business!

Why are we not talking about it?

My point is that you have all the open source software components needed to run secure communications, on your own premises, for your own users/community in case you are not trusting Signal's infrastructure.

If you know any other similar alternative with strong encryption open source protocols please let me know! I love learning new things everyday!
