Using AI may result in movies that are nothing but older movies cut up and rehashed with a shiny new coat of paint. So you'll barely notice a difference.

Tolstoshev , to Technology in OpenAI Said to Court Hollywood in Meetings With Film Studios, Directors

It’ll mean all the movies are in the public domain as soon as they are released, since you can’t copyright AI work.

Grimy ,

You currently cannot copyright their direct output but you can copyright the product you make with it.

A pure AI image isn't copyrightable, but modifying it to a point or making a comic book out of those images is okay.

Personally I'm looking forward to the Indy scene that will come with these tools more than how Hollywood uses it. Hollywood is already dead, they just don't realize it.

Cqrd ,

Somebody actually made a comic book with AI images and the copyright got rejected on the art (held up on the words though). So maybe if you modify the images quite a bit, but not if you just put them in comic book form.

no, it won't

his face is soooooooo weird

AnomalousBit ,

I wouldn’t normally make fun of someone’s looks, but this guy is a boat anchor on humanity. There’s enough cheek there for three orangutans

Custodian1623 ,

you do make fun of peoples looks you just don't want to feel bad about it

AnomalousBit ,

I said not normally, meaning yes I do (and just did), but in this case I do not feel bad because Sam Altman plainly sucks ass and deserves to cry for his numerous blights on humanity.

What is the point you’re making?

Custodian1623 ,

My point is it's really not a difficult principle to adhere to and you simply don't do it. That's your right but you're coping about it

AnomalousBit ,

Is that you, Sam?

Custodian1623 ,

I can say that I hate that guy and I also hate it when people resort to playground insults. That's my piece

Marvel writing already could've been done by AI

Well I liked spider verse movies. It was awesome and hope they don't butcher it with AI for their next movie.

TrickDacy ,

I am with you, those are exceptions for me in the marvel universe but true they were great movies

the production and music was so brilliant, metro really did a good job on the latter.

Sketch out a three film proposal for a trilogy of movies about how Hollywood is corrupted by its own hubris and greed, becomes convinced that it can use AI to replace human writers and actors, and eventually collapses and is replaced by a new and better movie making paradigm.

Title: "The Rise and Fall of Illusion"

Film 1: "Hubris Unleashed"
Synopsis: In the first installment, Hollywood executives, driven by their insatiable greed and arrogance, become convinced that AI technology can revolutionize filmmaking. They start replacing human writers and actors with AI-generated content, leading to initial success and critical acclaim. However, cracks begin to appear as creative stagnation sets in, and audiences grow disillusioned with the soulless productions. The film ends with the industry at its zenith, but teetering on the brink of its own downfall due to its hubris.

Film 2: "The Age of Artificiality"
Synopsis: As Hollywood doubles down on AI-driven filmmaking, tensions escalate between those clinging to the old ways and those embracing the new paradigm. The struggle intensifies as AI-generated content becomes increasingly indistinguishable from human creativity, blurring the lines between reality and illusion. Amidst mounting controversies and ethical dilemmas, the industry faces its greatest existential crisis yet, with the very essence of storytelling at stake.

Film 3: "Rebirth of Authenticity"
Synopsis: In the final chapter, Hollywood reaches its breaking point as the flaws of its AI-driven model are exposed in a spectacular fashion. A grassroots movement emerges, championing human creativity and authenticity over artificial perfection. Against all odds, a group of renegade filmmakers and actors lead a revolution, reclaiming the industry from the grips of technology and corporate greed. As the dust settles, a new era of filmmaking dawns, one that celebrates the human spirit and embraces diversity of voices and ideas. The trilogy concludes with hope for a brighter future where artistry triumphs over algorithms, and the magic of cinema lives on.

It'll make everything on Hollywood look and feel even more the same I'm afraid. That place is really becoming the McDonald's of movies. It's not haute cuisine or even pretending to be unique but the process is basically set in stone, reasonably cheap and you know exactly what your going to get.

I'll wait until it hits YouTube and some people get really creative with it.

clot27 , to Technology in WhatsApp Will Introduce 'Third Party Chats' Support Soon: Here's Why
@clot27@lemm.ee avatar

Can I have a tldr? Does that mean i will be able to message my whatsapp contacts from a more private app e.g. signal without compromising my privacy?

Albin8665 OP ,
@Albin8665@endlesstalk.org avatar

But for that signal need to comply with whatsapps request to integrate signal messaging with whatsapp api according to their terms and conditions. (Probably share details from signal users, which affects privacy) otherwise it would be unable to sent cross-platform messages.
Also it breaks encryption at all cost.

GigglyBobble ,

According to the article, WhatsApp requires the Signal Protocol for message encryption.

Signal is the single third party that shouldn't have a problem with that since it's been using that protocol before WhatsApp adopted it, too (they hired Moxi himself to help them do it, remember?)

Albin8665 OP ,
@Albin8665@endlesstalk.org avatar

Signal and whatsapp is developed from same developer. They only thing they have same is encryption protocol and nothing more. If users of whatsapp need to contact with signal users they need to agree with certain toc and rebuilt the app. Practically, no signal user will wish to communicate with whatsapp users bcz of lacking encryption and data privacy issues. I dont believe this third party chatting idea of whatsapp won't work bcz signal and other popular messengers like matrix,tg is for privacy and security. Also i don't think that no platforms will support this idea of whatsapp as chrome proposed FLOC.

Plopp ,

What could WhatsApp be getting, other than the Signal user's phone number and the date and time of encrypted messages?

Albin8665 OP ,
@Albin8665@endlesstalk.org avatar

I don't believe signal will comply with this idea. So no need to worry.

GigglyBobble ,

Since Signal also uses phone numbers as account ID, you'll give that to WhatsApp at least. Then they continue to track metadata of the messages sent between you and your WhatsApp contacts and will be profiling you.

I don't see how communicating with any Meta service isn't compromising privacy. I'm a Signal user and won't connect to WhatsApp.

bionicjoey ,

At least WhatsApp won't be able to monitor app usage patterns or scan my filesystem and contacts. Seems at least a bit better than the alternative assuming you have contacts who insist on or have a strong preference for WhatsApp

JoeKrogan , to Technology in WhatsApp Will Introduce 'Third Party Chats' Support Soon: Here's Why

At least if its possible to use a foss client you can interact with WhatsApp users without needing their shitty spyware app.

Albin8665 OP ,
@Albin8665@endlesstalk.org avatar

Actually that article says third-party chats, not third-party clients. I don't think they are gonna open their proprietary api for everyone. 🤐

chemicalwonka ,
@chemicalwonka@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

💯

Weslee ,

Isn't that effectively the same thing for people wanting to not use WhatsApp, you'd still be using a different client to speak to people on whatsapp?

Exactly, making everyone to switch over to something else is impossible...l'll uninstall it as soon as they roll this out
