Personally I don't engage with gender. Gender is only useful in changing peoples perceptions of yourself and I don't find people "lying" about my identity to my face to be an issue. I would identify as non binary or agender, but to do that would induce cognitive burden on others and make survay data more difficult, so I just don't. Life is too short to bother educating people you meet about how you understand your own gender.

also if you're not represented in survey data, it makes it that much easier for conservative proponents to point at gender surveys and say "well there's practically no one who doesn't fall in the binary buckets so there obviously must be something wrong with them and not the system"
as in, being yourself is the goal, but by being publicly open about it, you help others feel confident in pursuing what their authentic self is.

True but to me my gender is really not a factor in who I am, and while it might be a useful huistic for finding those who are similar to me, I can think of far better ones then that (e.g. hobbies, position on the asexuality spectrum)
Your statement about politicians is something I agree with, I'm more thinking about how identifying as an outlier is less useful then identifying as your birth gender when doing statistical analysis for polls with low sample size which I often participate in, especially when it makes no difference to me.

Gender doesn't have to dictate your personality, your wants, needs and the way you dress. Stop thinking so much about your gender and just do whatever the fuck you want.

Why are you assuming I don't know anything about this topic? Also this person is not trans they're bigender. There's a distinction and conflating one with the other is offensive. I have friends who are actually trans and this is not the same.

Hotter take: gender is irrelevant in 100% of situations. Your sex is sometimes relevant to your doctor and your sexual partner, and is irrelevant the rest of the time. Embracing atypical gender expressions gets in the way of discarding the whole outdated concept.

It's the only end goal that makes sense... Adding more labels helps people understand the box they've been forced into, but ultimately we just need to move past all of it
Yes, and that’s a trope that’s often used to invalidate the experiences of non binary people. We live in a society where gender does matter a lot and telling someone to stop caring about their own gender because it’s a social construct is transphobic. You can argue all you want about the meaning of gender, just don’t use it to invalidate nb or trans people, which is what the person I replied to was doing.

Gender is indeed irrelevant at all times. It doesn't exist. It's a set of expectations you impose on another person and have imposed on you... Realizing I don't have to explain anything to anyone is my personal answer, I just need to stop forcing myself to pretend.
Gender roles exist, but only to people who believe in them. You can break them at any time. You don't need a category, you can just be you, moment to moment.
I can't think of a more accepting position for non-binary or genderfluid people... Some people need external validation, but ultimately it's about how you see yourself
Other than peeing while standing being easier and my inability to give birth, I'm not sure I can come up with another 9.9% of the time to fill that gap.
