HDMI is a communication protocol used by a chip that communicates with the control board for the display. The display does not receive HDMI connection in any form.

You maybe could find a dumb display driver that is compatible with the display, but what display options or inputs available would be very basic.

A better option is to buy a commercial display TV that does not have smart functionality.

The right side sort of outlined in white are all power related. The main chip that everything passes through is in the middle left under the black heat radiator. The small black chips are for encoding/decoding, storage, etc. the white FPC/FFC connectors up at the top left are the connections to the display panel and backlight.

There is no HDMI connection to the display without it being translated by the signal processing chips. HDMI comes in, gets decoded, that passes through the processor to handle signal translating to display instructions and signal processing for display properties, which is then output to the display. The operating system, which is always running in the background, is run on the same processing hardware that handles the display instructions.

There is no way to divorce the "smart" TV functions from the function that handles converting the HDMI to display instructions without hardware to replace all the functions of that board minus the smart functions or by replacing the firmware with dumb software that doesn't have the smart functions.

There is no place to add an HDMI port that bypasses the smart processor because the smart processor is what makes HDMI to display communication possible.

Mods could be paid on a bounty system with salary or clocked hourly higher-tier mods to oversee moderation to prevent scamming. The higher tier mods would be paid more based on traffic with that ad profit sharing model.

Death_Equity ,

Only if the the accurate bot population is never disclosed. If people found out how much of Reddit is bots, the value would drop.

Death_Equity ,

The bounty mods that are incentivized to act are kept in-check by the salary mods who have a base pay determined by number of bounty mods(which is determined by user metrics) with volume bonuses. The salary mods primary responsibility is oversight and only have incentive to increase traffic, which can be kept in-check by bot limits per active users so the mods can't botfarm base pay or bonuses via traffic metrics.

Bounty mods would be established community members supplementing income, salary mods would be would be established members of the community who had a solid track record as a bounty mod.

Just having low-level mods paid a living wage creates waste or overwork as they either get paid to do almost nothing or have to have multiple subs they maintain, which means less focus. If they have a certain number of subs that they have to maintain, they may not have the interest or knowledge of their subs to effectively mod them.

Higher-tier mods would have the same issues but at a higher pay scale, workload, and cost. Not having a higher-tier mod would mean no oversight for the actions of mods except outside of the sub community with people who don't have an active involvement and understanding of that sub community.

That leaves the actual company to act as oversight and investigate suspicious activity within a sub's numbers which indicates some malfeasance. If the numbers aren't genuine, then that harms the profitability of the company because they are paying more for a salary mod and bounty mod than they rightfully deserve.

What you don't know is how a sustainable and effective business or people work. You can't expect everybody to be honest and hard working withithout adequate compensation driving that and you need limits to keep bad actors in-check or flagged for removal. You can't pay people to do less than the value their labor creates and you cant pay people more than the value they creates, that is inviable due to turnover and unsustainability respectively. An unsustainable business leaves the company to derrive sustainable income via alternative revenue outside of their core business like selling user data and rampant ads, which is harmful to the users(See: Reddit).

Death_Equity ,

If the car has self-adjusting shoes, you can crank on the parking brake a few times to adjust them or press hard on the brake pedal a few times. Do that while it is still in the air so you can check your work by turning the tire. The only issue is if you put them on too tight in the first place.

free standing tent you could probably pitch inside the truck bed if you had some creativity and really wanted to

The cyber truck bed is ~72x51(I have also seen 49"). Most 2 person tents are 50-54x78-88. I couldn't find the bed length with the tailgate down, but the interior height with the cover closed is about 20", so we can assume the available length would be over 90". The other issue is most 2 person tents are side opening and getting out would be a bother, but a head or foot opening tent could totally work.

You could squeeze in a very nice 2 person head opening tent and spend under $800 easily, you can have a nice tent for $250. A custom 4 season tent is still only about $1,000.

But truck bed tents do exist, and those would fit easily and are under $500 all day.

Death_Equity ,

Not having HVAC access in the tent is totally reasonable because you would have to have an opening that seals. Sure having a window in the back glass would work, but you are still using power to regulate the entire cab plus the tent.

They could have had an option for a bed tent duct and wireless temperature sensor so you are only regulating the tent, but the cost and design investment for a low adoption option would not make it viable.

In any case, trying to regulate the temperature of an uninsulated tent would destroy battery life and there would be tons of cyber trucks stuck in camping sites with dead batteries.

If you want heating and cooling when camping, get a trailer or camper.

Death_Equity ,

It is the minority of campsites that have shore power.

Regardless, why would you take a truckbed tent camping and want HVAC? If you have a $100k truck with 11,000lbs towing capacity and want HVAC at a site with shore power, you tow a trailer.

Commercial display TVs. They are dumb TVs with modern displays.

Roku TV bricked until agreeing to new terms of service

See title - very frustrating. There is no way to continue to use the TV without agreeing to the terms. I couldn't use different inputs, or even go to settings from the home screen and disconnect from the internet to disable their services. If I don't agree to their terms, then I don't get access to their new products. That...

Your face is not private, nor are your fingerprints. In public and in many private properties that are open to the public(e.g. stores) you have no expectation of privacy so you can be filmed within the law. You consent to facial recognition by passive agreement when you enter the public without your face covered.

Facial recognition technology is everywhere and there is nothing that will be done to curb it's use.

Edit: To be clear, I do not support anyone or any entity using biometric data for any purpose except verification of identity for security purposes with intentional consent. Businesses or government using biometric data, or any data obtained without clear and willful consent, is unacceptable.

Death_Equity ,

Most states do not have any laws which restrict how biometrics are used. So using your fingerprint, face, or iris to checkout at the store doesn't have any protections that would prevent that biometric data from being sent somewhere else, including the police. A store could gather facial or even iris data from a camera and you would have no idea because they don't have to tell you.

Worse is that most people don't see the problem with the digital panopticon because "they haven't done anything wrong" and they are willing to give up their data for the idea of a theoretical safety.

Death_Equity ,

Using those biometrics to access anything without a warrant is legal and not protected by the 4th or 5th amendments.

Scientists develop game-changing 'glass brick' that could revolutionize construction: 'The highest insulating performance' (www.thecooldown.com)

Scientists develop game-changing 'glass brick' that could revolutionize construction: 'The highest insulating performance'::The team of scientists developed an aerogel glass brick, which is a translucent and thermally insulating material.

Death_Equity ,

A quick search yields an R value of 9.6-20 per inch for already available aerogel insulating materials. So a standard exterior wall would have a 3.5"(2x4) or 5.5" (2x6) cavity giving R values of 33.6 and 52.8 respectively at the lower efficiency and cheaper options. That is better performance than pretty much any other option, but the cost is like 10-30 times that of other options.

If they are containing the aerogel granules in glass, which seems to be the case, the thermal bridging would be an issue for efficiency. A solid glass block has an R value of 1.15... A triple glazed window has an R value of 7-8.

The better option than glass block would be filling the cavity of a double glazed window with aerogel granules, which would cut down on thermal bridging to the just the sash/casing and would be more economically viable for production.

Tesla uses SS301 stainless. DeLorean used SS304.

301 is cheaper, less resistant to corrosion, can resist more force applied to it before failure, formes better in stamping, doesn't tolerate high-temperatures as well.

My guess is they used 301 due to cost and forming properties. Supposedly they use 301 on the Starships, so bulk pricing would help keep production costs low. Had they used 304 the raw material cost and cost of production at volume would be higher but they would be less likely to have these corrosion issues, assuming they aren't welding the panels.

There is a software opt-out in the settings, but how effective that is may be questionable.

To be certain, you can disconnect the antenna that is used for cellular connectivity. How to do that will differ model to model and you would need to reference a factory service manual.

To be very certain, you need to disconnect power to the module with the cellular interface, which may mean switching to an aftermarket head unit(stereo) if the cellular unit is integrated with the infotainment. That can be as simple as removing a fuse or it may mean getting access to the module and removing and isolating the power wire from the connector of the module is separate from the infotainment.

It does have emulsifiers and other dairy products in it. It has a higher moisture content, which the emulsifiers help to hold in suspension with the cheese. Without the emulsifiers the cheese would leak water/fluid out and the shelf life would be considerably shortened. The emulsifiers used are very common in many foods from almond milk to soft drinks.

Cars that unlock without pressing anything or by pressing a button on the door look for the key that is bound to them. It is secure in that only a key programmed to the car can tell the car it is ok to unlock. They keys are authenticated with a rolling code that is synced between a car and key when the key is programmed to the car. Thieves clone the key's signal and then the car has no idea that the fake key is not the real key.

You can't hotwire a modern car. On a modern pushbutton ignition car the starting function is allowed through a security module that makes sure the key is there before starting. Pushing the button only asks permission to start the car and then the module is the one that tells the car to start.

Lock-picking a modern car can be done, but it is far easier to use a wedge and inflatable air bag to pry the door open enough to use a hooked tool to open the door from the inside. Nobody picks automotive locks anymore, a lot of the door locks can be ripped out and bypassed anyways. You can of course just break the glass, but it may sound an alarm. The F150 has a massive theft issue Ford won't bother to address, the alarm can be disabled from outside the car using no tools whatsoever.

Once a thief has access to the inside of the car, they can program a new fake key using specialized software which is usually dealer level software but it can be done using 3rd party software. You can't just ban all non-dealers from having the capability to reprogram keys, that is user-repair hostile and would mean you have to pay whatever the dealer wants to replace a lost or damaged key. Not to mention that thieves will still find a way to access dealer tools and keep on stealing anyways.

A lockout period wouldn't accomplish anything, the original key still gets cloned and can be used to drive the car away. Once the stolen car is taken, the thieves have all the time they want to reprogram a key.

Enhancing security measures by using a more secure key authentication method will only go so far as to preventing theft and will add considerable costs to cars and key replacement. Thieves will catch up to any means of securing cars. A better solution is to improve economic prospects and enforce the current laws effectively to remove incentive to steal cars.

Auto theft for sale in a foreign market or domestic is uncommon and mostly dealing with valuable or rare cars and typically happens within a gas tank of a international boarder. More common is for breaking down and selling parts, but that is still not that typical. Most auto theft is for personal use and to commit crime. The breakdown of types of thefts changes with area, so in America personal use or crime is more common than Europe where chopping or foreign sale is more common.

Most turn-key ignition cars can't be hotwired either, they have immobilizers that require a security chip authentication within the key. Most of the cars that can be hotwired are from before 2005, after that they get rarer. If it has an all metal key, those definitely can be hotwired.

When it comes to tracking, by the time the car is located it is done being used. Most cars do not have any form of tracking that is accessible to law enforcement with cooperation from manufacturers. Modern cars with tracking can have their GPS or cell network disabled by pulling the right fuse with no impact on the drivability of the car. Aftermarket trackers are harder to disable if they are installed correctly and can lead to a faster recovery if the police move fast enough. Once the car is taken and the GPS fuse is pulled, they can keep the car indefinitely without fear of getting caught via tracking. If an aftermarket tracker is used, they just need to have the car in a place that will block the signal for long enough to disable it and then move the car again fast enough. Cops move slow, you can tell the cops where it is right now and they may not attempt recovery for hours.

Since the majority of auto theft is just looking for a car to ditch, in America, the easier to steal the better and it doesn't matter what the car is. F150s and Kia/Hyundai are the most popular now because they are easy to steal and common as dirt but grabbing a 2022 Honda that is left running or grabbing the keys from a driver are popular options.
