That's actually their manager's business. Literally what they hire them for. And honestly, if you're going to fault them for performing a private venue for an Amazon event, you should also fault every artist that's ever performed in like, Vegas. Casinos have been bleeding people to death long before Amazon hit the scene.

I'm not going to fault a performer for literally doing their job and taking a fat payday. I'd probably do the same in their shoes, anybody who insists otherwise isn't being honest with themselves.

It's not like the rider said "play show at Amazon, these guys just laid a lot of people off and are screaming about budget cuts so they want you to play for the rest. Here's 4 million dollars."

It probably said "corporate event for 6-10k people. Here's a check for 4 million dollars"

Wogi ,

I'm arguing that you're villainising the wrong people.

Wogi ,

His first attempt was in 2000 with Jesse Ventura in the reform party.

Wogi ,

I had the same problem and spent 15 years in shitty customer service jobs before quitting and going to trade school.

It's worked out really well.

Wogi ,

Consumers have limited visibility into the conditions under which their products are made

This is by design.

Wogi ,

Establish a defined set of emergency powers that exist for a predetermined amount of time, with an extremely narrow scope. Which can only be extended for a brief period of time with a 2/3rds majority vote. Otherwise they end and the executive is removed from office and barred from ever holding an official position again.

If there are barbarians at the gates, and emergency powers are actually required, then fine, you can have them to deal with a highly specific crisis. None of this "war on terror" bullshit.

And it'll be the last thing you'll do.

Wogi ,

YOU JUST MADE AN ENEMY FOR LIFE

Wogi ,

Malcolm X had similar things to say

Wogi ,

I don't care who's standing next to me when we eat the rich. The enemy of my enemy and all that.

The problem is not enough people see the rich as the problem. Or at least, not as big of a problem as they are.

Wogi ,

And diet sugar

Wogi ,

Most juice has a lot of sugar. The ones that don't don't generally taste that good.

But bottle OJ tasting like shit is a real thing, they have to do so much to it to get it to last for more than a week on the shelf that all the flavor is sucked out of it.

Wogi ,

If the restaurant has a kids menu, it also has milk.

Wogi ,

Yeah no added sugar. The juice generally contains enough sugar on it's own. Fruit juice is about as nutritious as a soda. You're taking the sweet part of the fruit and leaving behind the fiber and other nutrients.

Wogi ,

Sugar is sugar.

It really doesn't matter if it's naturally occurring or added after the fact. It's sugar.

Debating what kinds of sugar are better for you is kind of like debating which landmine is better to step on.

Don't get me wrong, the occasional sugary beverage is fine. But juice is never going to be good for you. Even arguably.

Wogi ,

Different kinds of sugar are all sugar when they get to your gut. Anything beyond "the body treats this like sugar" is just a pissing contest.

When you juice something, you're leaving 95% of the nutrients in the fruit, extracting the sugar water, and telling yourself you're drinking healthy. That's just not the case. The meat of the fruit is where that stuff is at. The fact that some of it makes it in to the juice is incidental. It would be better to drink a glass of water and eat the orange, than to juice the orange. Unless you then throw the juice away and just eat what's left of the orange. That's probably the best thing.

Wogi ,

Obligatory I'm an actual ape and can't Linux post

Wogi ,

This is revisionist, false, and stinks of the DotC.

The war was about the South keeping it's slaves, and it's ability to continue to subjugate an entire race of people. The Declaration of Causes of Seceding States states that "our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery." That only the "black race" is capable of being slaves. And in case you think this could be twisted somehow to support a rally against taxes, it goes on to say "There was no choice left us but submission to the mandates of abolition, or a dissolution of the Union"

This is the opening volley off secession. It talks about commerce but not about taxes. It doesn't mention counting slaves as votes because they'd won that fight 60 years previously.

Wogi ,

Daughters of the Confederacy

You realize that the 3/5ths compromise was added in 1787 at the constitutional convention right? That wasn't even remotely at issue during the civil war.

Wogi ,

Post war group of propagandists is a pretty good way to put it.

They were responsible for many of the Confederate statues, and a lot of revisionist rhetoric has its seeds with them.

To be clear, they were effective. And the public school system still bears their mark today, actually it's probably getting worse.

The South seceded out of fears of abolition. Full stop. Losing the election in a landslide to a Republican was only the last in a huge pile of straws. Ft Sumpter wasn't even where the fighting started. People had been literally killing each other over the issue of continued/expanded slavery for several years already.

Any source claiming that the South had more nuanced reasons for leaving is either knowingly lying, or has been taken in by a lie.

Wogi ,

It would have to be the manufacturer.

If someone steals your car and kills someone with it, then disappears without ever being identified, the car owner doesn't assume liability. Liability falls on whoever was operating it at the time. If software was driving, then the software company assumes the liability.

EA wants to place in-game ads in its full-price AAA games, again (www.techspot.com)

EA has tried this before, with predictable results. In 2020, EA Sports UFC 4 included full-screen ads for the Amazon Prime series The Boys that would appear during 'Replay' moments. These were absent from the game when it launched, with EA introducing the ads about a month later, thereby preventing them from being highlighted in...

Wogi ,

We're in the era of diminishing returns. There's so little left to squeeze out of the working class that every extra dollar they want costs more than the last one. They're running out of options on how to convince us to let go of those dollars.

Wogi ,

It's kind of wild that 10,000 years ago someone made a decision to stick to one spot and just grow their own food and that started a string of decisions that lead directly to filling a tax return and banks.

Wogi ,

They could have solved this with a layer of clear coat.

Without that, every single one will eventually patina.

Wogi ,

I'm against the death penalty on the grounds that I don't want the government to have the authority to kill because they keep fucking it up. Either they get the wrong person or botch the execution.

There's no question that a person is a billionaire.

Wogi ,

It's pretty bad practice to just read what's on the slide. Presentations would be prepared in such a way, and known to a degree where the slides act as refreshers for the presenter with something visual to give context. There are specific cases where you can't get away from it, but those are incredibly specific and not very common. Like, safety meetings with specific things that need to be read verbatim to every employee, and even those still need something to break it up. I can't think of another example.

Wogi , (edited )

So, I was going to do that math but it's 65 fucking countries and I'm bored but I ain't got that much battery left on my phone.

At one time Britain ruled over 1 out of every 5 people on the planet. If we carry that forward to today it's roughly 1.6 billion people. Let's call that the lower bound.

If we take the average population of any given country, which is fair given that China wasn't but India was one of them, and divide that by the number of countries and then multiply it by the number Britain used to rule, we get 2.6 billion.

Let's call that the upper bound.

There are roughly 2.6 billion christians worldwide. But not all of them celebrate Christmas. In the US, 85%-95% do. Let's just use that for the upper bound and say 2.2 to 2.5 billion people celebrate Christmas worldwide. Let's say 50% is the lower bound, at 1.3 billion people.

Which means that it's possible, and not even unlikely that more people celebrate independence from Britain than celebrate Christmas.

Wogi ,

... Rounding error. That number is gonna be pretty small, and mostly limited to majority Christian, Western countries.

Wogi ,

I have and will continue. Don't worry I'm also a rounding error. Honestly rounding error could sum up my entire generation

Wogi ,

Dave Grohl said that if he had known it was going to be such a hit he would have picked a cooler name for his band.

Wogi ,

Yes let's not invest in green energy because checks notes once every 20 years we will lose a fraction of a percentage of solar energy for about 4 minutes.

Also not for nothing but wind energy actually picks up during that time and generally for a few days before and after too.

Wogi ,

I'm not op but I hated that fucking show.

They use the 4 male leads to make fun of nerdy, generally neurodivergent coded people. One of the leads is an unrepentant asshole and the show seems to argue that he must be an asshole because he's autistic, though they never explicitly state that.

If you happen to be neurodivergent, and grew up being harassed for expressing some of the same traits represented by those characters, the show leaves an all too familiar, very bitter taste. All the while acknowledging that those characters grew up in exactly the same circumstances the show seeks to recreate for laughs.

If you're a neurodivergent person, the show is saying to you that "you have trouble fitting in in the society you live in, that we've created, and that's funny to us."

Wogi ,

Big bang theory was an American sitcom for 9 seasons.

The guy in the center of the image you posted is one of the main characters from the show.

Wogi ,

Yup that's worse... Somehow that's worse.

Wogi ,

Right, those pesky regulations that require things like bolts on door panels. DAMN THEM. DAMN THEM ALL.

Wogi ,

Money money money is by ABBA, not really a reasonable mistake tbh

Wogi ,

Not only do people expect free access, they feel entitled to endless free content.

God forbid YouTube charge a subscription fee to help pay creators or show ads. No no, we all gotta jump on whatever app makes it free of ads and denies anyone a single cent for the content consumed.

Even if YouTube is the actual devil, other platforms exist that do a better job of paying creators but we don't talk about Nebula, we just talk about getting around the ads at YouTube without letting YouTube ever see a cent. As if having millions of videos available at the touch of a finger to anyone with an Internet connection is somehow free.

Wogi ,

I always thought the basilisk was kind of dumb. Atheists invent God, get scared.

Wogi ,

I have a plan. Bear with me here. Requires only a cursory understanding of basic construction and late 18th century French revolutionary methods.

Wogi ,

Imagine all of those straws in a single pile. 3000 tons of straws.

Now imagine a pile 200 times larger. That's what the fishing industry is doing.

We're moving sand piles while they're building pyramids.

Wogi ,

There's only two classes. Working and wealthy.

If you can't afford to live without working, them you're working class. If you could quit your job and maintain a decent lifestyle, you're not working class anymore.

Wogi ,

I think the meme is getting at a 3rd space, somewhere adults can go and not be expected to drink or spend money, and hang out in a community fashion.

Internet spaces have kind of taken over meat space 3rd places.

Wogi ,

... Deal. But I reserve the right to turn the upper peninsula in to my own personal resort.

Wogi ,

That's actually a great idea. I've always been a fan of the Browns.
