Exactly this. It just boils down to manufacturing consent for the other guy’s terrible policies, and results in hopelessness leading to voter apathy. Braindead strategy with 0 concept of leadership.

crusa187 ,

What about “the economy is actually doing great Jack!” ?

crusa187 ,

Wish we had a party who gave a shit in order to vote for this, and that it were a much bigger plank of their platform. It’s a disgrace that anyone is unhoused in the richest nation on Earth.

I can’t even begin to describe how much more I would prefer we do this, than to continue fattening the wallets of boomers who own multiple homes and only live in one of them. We literally don’t invest in building new housing in order to maintain this status quo, and it’s absurd.

There’s an old adage in computing which really applies here:

Garbage in, garbage out.

crusa187 ,

I’m sorry you had to witness that. I wonder if it’s possible to incentivize conservation, or if the solution would just be regulation with teeth.

Nextcloud appreciation post

After months of waiting, I finally got myself an instance with Libre Cloud. I was expecting basic file storage with a few goodies but boy, this is soooo much more. I am amaze by how complete this is!!! Apps let me configure my instance to fit everything I need, my workflow is now crazy fast and I can finally say goodbye to...

Been working great for me for years! You do need to take care when setting up for a stable and consistent experience, but their docs are pretty thorough and regularly updated.

crusa187 ,

Pretty insightful, and quite possible as people are being trained on the “app experience” vs computing proper.

crusa187 ,

I’m assuming you are including establishment democrats under the “conservatives” umbrella here.

When the Romney’s Republican healthcare plan called “Obamacare” was proposed, it had the public option in it. Joe Biden immediately removed this provision for “bi-partisan compromise” - this happened before they even began negotiations over the bill.

crusa187 ,

lol

nah it’s legit, just look at any of the military spending bills which rocket through at warp speed

Yes, tax them! Failing to do so is one of the greatest failings of neoliberalism. And of course conservatives have always defaulted to giving corporations everything.

You know, in 1968, just 56 years ago, corporations were paying 52.8% tax rate! This allowed us to invest in our own people and fund so many wonderful programs for growth and prosperity. And these corporations paying over 50% of their profits in taxes were happy to do so! Because it meant they got to do business in the USA.

Now that they aren’t being taxed at even half that rate, what do they do? Buy politicians off for even lower taxes, purchase their own stock to artificially inflate its value, and pay dumbasses like spez 100s of millions of dollars yearly. And if those CEOs fuck up and tank the company? Golden parachute for you - multi-million dollar exit packages and easy access to new boards and leadership positions at other corporations. It’s sick.

All we are asking for is access to affordable healthcare, decent education to better ourselves and level up our skills, and the means to make a decent enough living to afford a roof over our heads and not have to panic about paying for it each month. This shouldn’t be too much to ask in a nation of such incredible excess.

I guess we won't be able to criticize the democrats for becoming Nazis when the republicans become the party of skynet-worshipping nuclear extinction cultists, because at least the democrats don't plan on killing everyone.

How to drive voter turnout and create more sides so we’re not just left with two absolutely garbage choices every time:

Get rid of fucking first past the post. Ranked choice is by far more democratic, and some states have already implemented it to great success. Let’s go already, this needs to be the national standard.

2G, 3G, 4G, 5G mobile data made some sense as it represents generational leaps in the technology itself but then Xfinity wants to advertise "10g" internet...

Comcast says it represents a 10 Gigabit cable internet network they are building (it doesn’t exist) so they are basically changing the meaning of the g from generation to gig to act like 10g is 5 generations better (or twice as fast)…or that they have a 10 gigabit network. Neither is accurate. It’s still just cable...

It’s too big for email, and likely too big for Dropbox or Gdrive unless you have a paid account with them.

That means you’re going to have to get slightly technical. Find a freeware SFTP program that can spawn a server on the host, and connect to it from the client to download the file.

    Good luck!

Chromebooks are straight up hostile towards attempts at repairs, maintenance, or upgrades. It’s wild, they really went the extra mile towards rampant consumerism.

With each new HP news article I grow more pleased with last year’s decision to ditch HP once and for all and get a Brother.

The Brother just works. Even surprises me in some scenarios where I anticipate lack of support and it comes through anyway. Great printer!

To answer your questions - users such as this bring something more valuable than ad money. They bring data. Google harvests data and metrics on users in a million ways, packages this up, and sells it for considerably more than they make on ads. In free services such as this, YOU are the product.

Ads suck, nobody wants to watch them, and they simply represent google maximizing shareholder value at every opportunity, as they are legally bound to do under American capitalism. YouTube ads are not a critical revenue stream that will make or break them.
