It was just like this helping my parents with generational racism. It’s all about willful open-mindedness on their part, and good-intention assuming education on ours.

disguy_ovahea ,

It completely depends on their implementation. Apple released Local Snapshots for OSX with Time Machine in 2007. Granted, they’re created hourly rather than every few minutes, but there hasn’t been a vulnerability or exploit as a result of the feature.

https://support.apple.com/en-us/102154

disguy_ovahea , (edited )

I assumed the Copilot integration was elective. The article states it’s not on by default.

Otherwise it’s the same. Local backups through Time Machine can be accessed a la carte through a screenshot-based GUI, so the screenshots are part of the Local Snapshots stored on your local drive. They’re password protected and decrypted at user login.

disguy_ovahea , (edited )

Have you used it with an application? You can look at all revisions made to a document in Pages, a spreadsheet in Numbers, etc. It makes Local Snapshots of foreground applications.

disguy_ovahea ,

Correct. Trump also dispatched 750 militarized federal officers through DHS in Portland, sending Secret Service, PFS, CPB, and ICE to shut down protests.

https://www.opb.org/article/2021/04/21/dhsreport-says-750-federal-officers-sent-to-2020-protests-in-portland/

Biden has not dispatched any forces to dispel protests. Criticism of police conduct should go directly to the mayor of the respective city. Write them and make sure they hear your concerns.

That’s true. He died of pancreatic cancer. Heavy alcohol use can lead to conditions such as chronic pancreatitis, which is known to increase pancreatic cancer risk. The largest associated cause of pancreatic cancer is food that is cooked until charred or blackened, which you won’t find much of at McDonald’s.

With that being said, don’t eat at McDonald’s. It’s terribly malnutritious, laden with chemical treatments, and sourced by forced prison slave labor.

disguy_ovahea ,
disguy_ovahea ,

It’s unfortunately constitutionally protected to use prisoners as slaves, so this is a nationwide problem.

disguy_ovahea ,

It certainly does.

You mean Republicans. The vast majority of citizens and congresspeople speaking out against support of Israel are Democrats.

As of March 2024, 64% of Republican citizens support Israel’s actions vs. 18% of Democrats.

https://news.gallup.com/poll/642695/majority-disapprove-israeli-action-gaza.aspx

Republicans passed a bill to circumvent Biden’s pause in munitions supply. That’s after they tried to pass a standalone bill for Israel military aid in place of aid for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan.

disguy_ovahea ,

Then real state haters let other people decide their fate.

disguy_ovahea ,

That scumbag gets the power of creating, modifying, and repealing the legislation that you are forced to abide by.

disguy_ovahea ,

So you believe you’re above the law too? Good luck with that.

disguy_ovahea ,

Critiques are necessary. We don’t owe electors loyalty. They owe us representation.

With that being said, when it comes to voting, inaction is action.

disguy_ovahea ,

I’m sorry if my comment implied disagreement. It was meant to support and reinforce your point, not counter it.

disguy_ovahea ,

No worries. I wrote with conviction. I see how that can come across as argumentative.

That was removed as their motto in 2015, following a restructuring of Google as a subsidiary of Alphabet.

disguy_ovahea ,

It may be in their code of conduct, but that’s not their motto. As of 2015, their motto is "Do the right thing."

disguy_ovahea ,

I heard the second panel in Adam Sandler’s Billy Madison voice.

But I’ve only seen good things about the CCP on TikTok.

disguy_ovahea ,

Our society would be far better if we, as a whole, quoted Weird Al more often.

Donald Trump wants to control the Justice Department and FBI. His allies have a plan (www.reuters.com)

Some of Donald Trump's allies are assembling proposals to curtail the Justice Department's independence and turn the nation's top law enforcement body into an attack dog for conservative causes, nine people involved in the effort told Reuters....

disguy_ovahea ,

“He’s joking.” “You’re taking his words out of context.” “That’s not what he means.”

Trump is completely clear about his plans to overtake our government. If he wins, he very well may become our last president and first dictator.

disguy_ovahea ,

The original intent of that metaphor is correct in your use, but it’s rarely recognized. It began as “a rotten apple quickly infects its neighbor.” Over time, it became “one bad apple ruins the bunch.” Now it’s used as just “one bad apple” to infer minimal or selective corruption, completely discrediting the point of the analogy.

disguy_ovahea ,

Absolutely. Also very applicable to OP’s point.

disguy_ovahea ,

When they can’t find anything good to say about their own party, attacking the opposition is the entirety of their argument.

disguy_ovahea ,

Reader Mode works on Apple devices

disguy_ovahea ,

This also works.

http://archive.today/

disguy_ovahea ,

Wasn’t on the table.

disguy_ovahea ,

It’s built into Safari and therefore integrated into third-party Lemmy apps as well. You can enable opening all links in Reader Mode in most Lemmy clients for iOS.

disguy_ovahea ,

As well. It was released in Safari in 2010, and Firefox in 2015.

It’s responsible for the last few years of streaming price hikes. ISPs throttle streaming services, then customers complain. Streaming services pay for “fast lanes,” then pass the cost on to customers.

Fuck Ajit Pai and his orange overlord.

disguy_ovahea , (edited )

They didn’t speed up anything. The thing that told them they can’t slow things down is Net Neutrality. That’s what this is. It was created under Obama, repealed under Trump, then reinstated under Biden. When the law was repealed, they went back to price gouging large data users. Now it’s back in place.

disguy_ovahea , (edited )

They’ve been cracking down on password sharing to increase subscriber count, and began selling ads which are based on the number of active subscribers. The streaming traffic went up so much during the pandemic that ISPs “generously” relaxed data limits and streaming services still needed to throttle bandwidth by reducing quality. They’ve been making profits as well as ISPs.

disguy_ovahea , (edited )

It was enacted by the FCC under Obama’s direction in 2015.

disguy_ovahea , (edited )

Sorry. I corrected it. Here it is again.

https://obamawhitehouse.archives.gov/net-neutrality

Yes, the internet was neutral by design, but not by legislation. The FCC made it law under Obama’s direction in 2015.

disguy_ovahea , (edited )

Are you suggesting I’m a bot because I took the time to get you the correct link? Mahalo.

disguy_ovahea ,

You’re right. It’ll only last as long as there’s a Democratic majority in the FCC. Even then, Brendan Carr stalled the recent reinstatement for six months.

https://docs.fcc.gov/public/attachments/DOC-397264A1.pdf

disguy_ovahea ,

I mistyped it the second time. The website states that the FCC adopted Net Neutrality in 2015.

disguy_ovahea ,

Here is the list of Senators that signed the threat:

Tom Cotton, Mitch McConnell, Marsha Blackburn, Katie Britt, Ted Budd, Kevin Cramer, Ted Cruz, Bill Hagerty, Pete Ricketts, Marco Rubio, Rick Scott, and Tim Scott

Red is the fastest color in the visible light spectrum, and violet is the slowest. A cool use of this phenomenon is lightning strike camera triggers. It senses the invisible infra-red light, which hits the sensor before visible light, and takes the picture just in time to capture the lightning strike.

Edit: This is only true when traveling through atmosphere. As pointed out below, light travels at uniform speed through a vacuum.

Also, the comic is referring to the Doppler Effect, which is caused by an object in motion, having nothing to do with light spectrum speed through atmosphere. My bad.

disguy_ovahea ,

This is absurd. King Henry I didn’t paint his toenails.

Sure, open source will always have the potential for the most privacy, assuming the user is savvy enough to maintain updated security. The article was primarily focused on Apple’s hold of the smartphone market. In the US, the only real competition is Android. Google is transparent about their consumer data use, and they also don’t offer much in the form of personal information privacy outside of encrypted RCS. For example, third-party apps can access user data and enable hardware APIs without first requiring user permission.

With proportionate quality control.

disguy_ovahea ,

Have you seen knockoff iPhones that sell for 1/10 the cost of an iPhone? They’re not backed by a $2.7T corporation.

disguy_ovahea ,

Xiaomi is publicly traded, and Huawei was indirectly funded by the Chinese government with $75B in tax breaks. Good quality control in leading technology is very expensive. The losses from a manufacturing defect can be difficult to absorb, often leaving standards parallel to financing.
