Sorry you're being downvotted by the misinformed. It's not even in the format for ChatGPT, especially the part about being out of tokens. It's been pointed out already that that is psuedo-code, not actual code. It's meant to look like something ChatGPT would say.

It's a troll/ragebait account.

This isn't news. At all. This is basically reporting on "the hacker known as 4Chan".

@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

"It's probably not true, but you know, it COULD be true".

That's exactly how they get you. Then the next time you see a story like this, all you think is "yeah, haven't I heard something like this before?" and confirm the new BS you're being fed.

This instance isn't true. This is someone manipulating you. Like, the manipulation you're afraid of? It's right here.

And now you have to wonder, who gains from making you believe this one is real? I'll leave that one up to you. But in the words of George Carlin: "It's a big club, and you ain't in it".

fishos , (edited )
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

You should doubt everything you hear. Pull it apart and see if the pieces themselves make any sense. Examine the logic and look for flaws in it that make the conclusion invalid. Ask questions.

You SHOULD doubt me, absolutely. Hold everything up to the light. A very important question to ask is "why am I being told this? Who's interests is served by telling me this?" Examine every piece.

For example, in the article, notice how everything is "seemingly" "implied" or "appears to". Those aren't definitive words. Those are gossip words. No concrete claim is actually made. Just the appearance of one. The sources are just other random Twitter comments speculating.

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

Doubting it just to be contratian or doubting it because you can point out a flaw in something I said?

There's a difference. If you're just gonna troll, then you're the exact cause of the loss of discourse. It's up to you.

Well Fargo fired people for working a second job ON COMPANY TIME, USING COMPANY RESOURCES AND COMPUTERS.

THIS IS FRAUD.

They abso-fucking-lutely deserved this. Don't get behind this story and act like it's employers being shitty when it was employees faking working their main job using mouse/keyboard idlers to work a second job during time they were being paid by the first job for, using resources provided by the first job.

Work 2 jobs separately? Big whoop. Being paid for your time to do a job and you do a completely different job in that time using your employers resources? Hell, be glad they didn't sue you.

Get behind real issues, not this. This just makes you look like the reddit anti work mod who got interviewed and complained that they couldn't support themselves as a dog walker for 2 hours a week. It makes YOU look unreasonable.

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

Read the actual articles detailing what they did. It was fraud. If you legit think this is ok, then you are advocating for lying and cheating to get what you want, which, I dunno, I thought that was EXACTLY what you despised about the capitalists.

So funny how the oppressed always wants to become the oppressor. You're not arguing for a better world, just one where you "get yours".

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

Then get behind the people doing 4 WFH jobs. Use GOOD examples to further this idea. Not people blatantly perpetrating fraud and acting like they're heros. We need strong cases, not ones easily broken down and dismissed. This case is too easily in favor of the employers. Is capitalism shit? Sure. But you're literal job is to be available during those hours. Hiding the fact that you're doing another job using company time and resources, is fraud, plain and simple. If you didn't think it was fraud, would you have hidden it?

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

Lmao that's not how "right to work" works. That's how having a contract works lmao

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

Cool, that wasn't this.

They used company computers to do another companies work. That's theft. Just like you want to comment on wage theft and the like, this is employee theft. Now, if you want to argue that it's justified, that's one thing. But don't reframe this as "well they were just doing nothing anyways". No, they used computers and resources that explicitly weren't theirs for their own benefit. Sounds A LOT like the wage theft you want to complain about when it's an employer doing it, but suddenly it's ok when the tables are turned. Nah, it's still an immoral act.

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

This is like the 3rd version of the article at this point. It's mentioned in other articles. What is mentioned in this one is they used devices to pretend to be active during times they were expected to be. You know, fraud.

Hackers Target AI Users With Malicious Stable Diffusion Tool on Github to Protest 'Art Theft' (www.404media.co)

A group of hackers that says it believes “AI-generated artwork is detrimental to the creative industry and should be discouraged” is hacking people who are trying to use a popular interface for the AI image generation software Stable Diffusion with a malicious extension for the image generator interface shared on Github. ...

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

Honestly, I feel like being a Luddite and everytime someone shows art from now on, critique the ever loving hell out of their process.

"Did you make the brushes yourself from sheep you raised? Did you grind the pigments from plants you grew yourself?"

Art is amazing, but artists are some of the most delicate people. Their entire career is, in a way, a showcase of themselves, and if you take any part of that away from them or judge it, they become incredibly hostile and take it deeply personally. But literally the same kind of criticisms they're making now are taught in art history about previous advancements. It's just the same fragile egos afraid that they're not as special anymore.

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

Nah, it's because we don't keep putting forth a Strawman argument. Tipped jobs are ALLOWED to pay their workers less than minimum wage IF AND ONLY IF their tips do not make up the difference. If they do not, the employer must cover it.

It is literally subsidizing the wages that otherwise the business would legally have to pay. So how do you fight back? You don't tip and employees need to properly report their tips. The system already has the mechanism in place to fix this.

But you say this and all the people who make WAY MORE than minimum wage with their tips get up in arms because you're daring to take away their advantage. It's being exploited by both sides. It's not about fair treatment for everyone, it's about "getting mine at someone else's expense".

CEO of Google Says It Has No Solution for Its AI Providing Wildly Incorrect Information (futurism.com)

You know how Google's new feature called AI Overviews is prone to spitting out wildly incorrect answers to search queries? In one instance, AI Overviews told a user to use glue on pizza to make sure the cheese won't slide off (pssst...please don't do this.)...

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

If you don't know the answer is bad, which confident idiots spouting off on reddit and being upvoted into infinity has proven is common, then you won't refine your search. You'll just accept the bad answer and move on.

Your logic doesn't follow. If someone doesn't know the answer and are searching for it, they likely won't be able to tell if the answer is correct. We literally already have that problem with misinformation. And what sounds more confident than an AI?

Time for an ICQ for the Fediverse?

Looks like ICQ is finally shutting down, just as interest in retro internet tools is growing.

"Hey bro! Here's some 20 year old program! We should totally reinvent it today! It's not like anyone has been working on this exact thing for the last 20 years!". Wtf is with the younger generations obsession with "retro tech"?!? "Look bro, I can do the same thing we can do now, but slower and worse!"

Also Matrix. If you're gonna suggest something, maybe make sure it doesn't already exist.

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

All these people "rediscovering" old tech like we didn't abandon it for a reason. No, I don't want to build a PC out of old Commodore 64s that barely works and needs to be coded in assembly when I can literally get a mini PC that's 100x more powerful for $120.

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

Get off your high horse. It's a joke about layout and styling. It's the "don't dead, open inside" meme from way back.

No one is ignoring the issue. It's plastered on the front page daily. We'll be just fine without you. You're not spearheading some unknown cause. Go touch grass.

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

Not a fan of Melroy(mbin founder). They claim to have been a dev for Lemmy and kbin. Then when they didn't get the control they wanted, started their own instance. When that didn't take off, he ranted very publically once again about how the current team he was "working with" sucked and how he was the only true savior of the fediverse. Then he started mbin, which he named after himself(Melroy Bin).

His entire attitude has been "fuck you, I'm taking my ball and going home if you don't listen to me" from the start.

HARD PASS.

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

You mean there's not still a team of developers working full time to make sure your 8 year old hardware is still getting software/security parity? Color me shocked. Shocked I say! They should support your hardware for free forever! How dare they advance in such a way that it's not possible for my 8 year old hardware to run the exact same as modern hardware that's been updated and iterated hundreds of times since then.

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

"Hey, you know that belief system that attempts to answer the great unanswerable questions and gives you some shred of comfort? Nah, you live in an unfeeling, uncaring world. There is nothing, no great answer. Just living until you die.

Why are you crying?"

If you call yourself an atheist vs agnostic, I immediately just see an edgy teenager who wants to be confrontational. Not someone seeking actual answers or discussion. Most of the greatest scientific thinkers acknowledge that science is the answer to "how?", but not "why?". We simply don't have that answer. Anyone claiming to is arrogant at best.

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

Many users don't log in. After the fall of the 3rd party apps, I only use the rdx webapp if I want to view reddit. I don't log in with an account at all anymore. So all of my data looks like some anon browsing from the same VPN server as hundreds of other anons. Yes they can analyze all of that traffic and individualize it, but that takes work. I'm glad to make them expend more effort, even if they get the same data in the end. Every step that makes it less cost effective for them is better, even if not perfect.

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

Which is why good vpns are hosted in countries with extremely high privacy laws. And some can even be bought and used without giving any personal info. And why most vpns are RAM only and literally can't log any records.

But you knew this before you spouted off, right?

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

You have no clue how vpns work and shouldn't be giving anyone advice on tech. You are full of shit. I'm not even gonna be polite about it because you are spouting nonsense with complete confidence.

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

What if unicorns are real but invisible and we can't touch them?

I can make up outlandish "facts" too.

how can something be so courageous and yet so true (slrpnk.net)

Edit: Jesus Christ, people. If you buy a $150 Thinkpad made by slave labor instead of a $1,200 MacBook made by slave labor, you're still supporting a capitalist economy based on slave labor. We all do. We have no choice. The number of smug liberals in the comments saying "well I buy a cheap used laptop" or "well I buy coffee...

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

In response to your edit, there's a difference between being forced to buy products that employ slave labor and choosing to buy something that is extremely overpriced because of capitalism. Yes you need to live within the system, but that doesn't mean you buy the most expensive and wasteful version and then claim "well I had no choice!". You have choices. You're just being willfully ignorant of them and shifting the blame to someone else. Heaven forbid you become part of the solution and not just another addition to the problem.

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

Then why did you post this in memes? It's not really funny or anything unless you're an idiot who doesn't see the bigger picture. Do you see why we might assume?

Google Allows Creditors to Brick Your Phone (lemmy.world)

I installed NetGuard about a month ago and blocked all internet to apps, unless they're on a whitelist. No notifications from this particular system app (that can't be disabled) until recently when it started making internet connection requests to google servers. Does anyone know when this became a thing?...

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

Checked my pixel 6 and it's on mine. Might not be in the store for everyone, but it's installed on my owned device.

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, when you say stuff like this, it shows how woefully unprepared you are for the realities of this. You can't scale, can't self host for long, don't see a way to pay for this..... When I can already pay Kagi for a fully working, excellent service, why would I choose you? This is guaranteed to crash and burn the moment your ISP tells you you can't run a commercial grade server through your residential connection. They'll either cap your bandwidth to unusable levels or disconnect you entirely. If you're lucky you'll have 1 or 2 other options to choose from, whom will blacklist you shortly after. Then, after you're burnt through all the "easy" ways to host, all you'll be left with is professional grade services that you admit you can't afford.

Also, you make zero mention of user privacy. So what happens when you get your first subpoena? Or before that, why should I trust you with my data in general? What policies do you have in place to ensure my legal rights are protected? Do you even know what the legal rights are per state/country and how the location of where someone connects from impacts you? How are you gonna handle visitors from the EU with GDPR?

Nifty idea, but way too much "I'm gonna single handedly reinvent the wheel" vibes.

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

So if you don't have any records then you can't prove it was done properly and the assumption should be on the fault of Boeing.

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

The Internet only serves to highlight the existence of terrors that before we could be ignorant of. We were always like this.

Let’s not make the same mistakes with AI that we made with social media (www.technologyreview.com)

From the article: "In particular, five fundamental attributes of social media have harmed society. AI also has those attributes. Note that they are not intrinsically evil. They are all double-edged swords, with the potential to do either good or ill. The danger comes from who wields the sword, and in what direction it is swung....

World Hunger is literally a problem of corruption. The vast majority of problems are "we could solve this, but it costs money and we'd rather have another mega yacht". If humans were truly altruistic, homelessness and hunger wouldn't be issues at all. Are we savages? Maybe not. But overall altruistic? Bullshit.

There's a reason we idolize heros instead of treating them as mundane. They are exceptional, not the norm.

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

No, it's because IE was just a modified File Explorer to begin with. It was never its own independent software, but something cobbled together from already existing code. It's these constant dependencies that are the problem due to laziness and bad practice.

Look into League of Legends and how Skarner and Minions are a structurally important part of the games entire code for another example.

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

And yet it's code is still in there doing work. Way to fail t reading comprehension

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

Honestly, this schtick is so tired and played out. I don't believe you are who you claim to be, and even if you are, so fucking what? Big fucking deal. Its honestly pathetic if you really are her constantly going "hey look, it's me!". And if you're not her, why are you running around the internet cosplaying it?

You seem mentally ill and everyone needs to stop enabling your delusions.

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

Which adds to the point: even though no one knows who she is anymore or about her giant beachfront mansion she tried to have removed from the Internet, her name lives on in infamy

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

Historians will look back one day and be like "this woman was so renowned for her terribleness, we can trace the entymology of this modern word back to her name".

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

So what you're saying is there's a minority, with fewer people to turn to, and we shouldn't help them because there are "more pressing issues"..... Please tell me you see the irony?

Wasn't the whole point the rid the word of that exact feeling of helplessness and isolation?

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

Are you really trying to argue that the Democrats are poor? Seriously?!? What an ass backwards take. Both sides have insane amounts of capital. Your comment is meaningless and just more standard "Republicans are bad, mmkay?"

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

Most people don't care because most of your problems are all privacy related. And that's what Linux people don't seem to get. They rant and rave about how much better Linux is.... for privacy. But the average Joe doesn't know or care that data is being collected and for the most part it doesn't affect them. It's just some Boogeyman being thrown at them. What they care about is ease of use and convience. They don't dig into those details because, for the most part, they're not even aware.

When Linux people say it's a "better experience", they largely mean detailed customization and more privacy.

When Windows people say it's a "better experience", they mostly mean that it's the same relatively easy to use experience on every device and it Just Works®.

They're both right. But each side argues their side of the conversation not seeing that the other side has a perfectly justified use case for theirs. It's like arguing that everyone should drive a van and not understanding why someone might not want one.

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

Anytime I see that it makes it obvious the person is trying to hide something. I assume you're a slob if you do that. Or ridiculously paranoid(considering you're already showing your face).

It says you know it's disgusting and embarrassing AND you are willing to live like that. The only effort you will take to solving it is throwing a digital sheet over it.

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

Like someone else said, the edges break through. We can tell a light blur to obfuscate your tidy room from a complete screen change that breaks occasionally, revealing your mess. It's not that well hidden.

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

You can clearly see there is a sticker over the original price. It originally probably was a bulk deal that the store reduced to an all around deal.

You're over here bitching about people who can't do math and you can't even see.

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

Oh, does "bitching" offend you? Would you rather I say "you are so prepared to be annoyed by something that you completely gloss over the facts in front of you so that you can present the situation in a negative light"? Is that better? Ffs, they LOWERED the price and you're over here spouting Big Capitalism Conspiracies®.

I'm way more worried that there are people like you amongst us than I am of Big Sweater confusing me with multiplication. Maybe worry more about the education system if a tag like that is so confusing to you.

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

Thank you! I felt the exact same thing but couldn't remember the name of the comic. Just that it has a grittier artstyle. Time for a reread :D

fishos ,
@fishos@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, and a car uses more energy than me. It still goes faster. What's your point? The debate isn't input vs output. It's only about output(the ability of the AI).
