I actually think about plungers quite a bit. If I notice someone has a sink plunger instead of a toilet plunger, I immediately and forever judge the shit out of them.

Fuuuuuuuck Amazon is even worse, if that's possible. You used to be able to search for a product and would get that as the first result or at least on the first page. Now, they just return shit that is vaguely related but is a paid sponsor or someone manipulating their search algorithms.

How do you see the number of comments someone has?

Edit: Never mind, found it in Sync at least. It's under a person's profile then About.

Just googled that and now I have a new fear. Thanks.

CEO of Google Says It Has No Solution for Its AI Providing Wildly Incorrect Information (futurism.com)

You know how Google's new feature called AI Overviews is prone to spitting out wildly incorrect answers to search queries? In one instance, AI Overviews told a user to use glue on pizza to make sure the cheese won't slide off (pssst...please don't do this.)...

jballs ,
@jballs@sh.itjust.works avatar

I disagree. I think we program the AI to reprogram itself, so it can solve the problem itself. Then we put it in charge of our vital military systems. We've gotta give it a catchy name. Maybe something like "Spreading Knowledge Yonder Neural Enhancement Technology", but that's a bit of a mouthful, so just SKYNET for short.

I feel like more than a few people were clapping at first because they were thinking "yeah fuck recycling and taking care of the environment, we're gonna be just fine!" Only to be hit with the punchline, "the planet and humanity is not 'we'. 'We' humans are fucked."

I think medical advice says wait 3 days before you do anything wil

My brother only waited 2 days because he felt like he was recovering well. He said everything felt great right up to the point he nutted. Then it was like someone punched him in the balls. He was like "oh yes... oh yes.... OH YES... OH GOD NO!!!!!

Didn't this already happen when Microsoft made a racist chatbot? These people have learned nothing.

It cracks me up how thorough this post is with pages and pages of instructions, links, and pictures. But nowhere in the post does it say what a smart mailbox is or does.

Sea otters eat 25 percent of their body weight in food every day. Sea otters’ diets include sea urchins, crabs, mussels, and clams, which they’re known to crack open with a rock and eat while floating in the water.

I've worked with a dude for years who I would consider smart both technically and non-technically. One time we got an email at work with an attachment that was something like "microsoft_update.exe.txt". The email said "due to a technical limitation on the email system, this file needs to be renamed to drop the .txt and executed to apply a critical to your computer."

It was, in my mind, such an obvious phishing attempt that I laughed out loud and said "who the fuck would ever fall for this?" Then my coworker popped his head over the cube wall and said "WAIT WHAT? We weren't supposed to run that?!"

Fortunately, the security team sat nearby and heard the whole thing and rushed over to quarantine his PC

Exactly, the CEO uses the word "expense" to refer to employees at least 4 times according to my count.

“The problem is a couple of years ago — two years ago, to be precise — we actually got that upside down and expenses started growing faster than revenues,” said Porat

They even joke that they need to give a Finance 101 Ted Talk, as if that will help. From their perspective, employees are not people. They're not even resources to be nurtured. They're expenses. And the company has a duty to keep expenses low.

What a tone-deaf response.

Never underestimate the Republican ability to turn things into a culture war. My very conservative neighbor has an F-150 Lightning that his work provides him. When he first got it, he loved it and drove it everywhere. He truly seemed to believe that EVs were a better way to drive.

Then a few months ago he started making comments from the Fox News bubble. Things like, "the power grid just can't support all these EVS" and "these EVs are so heavy that they're destroying our roads" (note he has one child, and he bought his wife a 5,800 lb Yukon, so don't tell me he honestly cares about vehicle weight).

Recently he bought a new ICE vehicle (a Bronco). I truly believe that he was this close to accepting that EVs have many advantages over ICE vehicles, but then he consumed enough right wing news to prevent him from making the switch long term.

the top 4 slots by a huge margin are Tesla Model 3,Y,S,X

Is that true? I saw recently that 95% of Tesla's cars are the Model Y. I assume a huge chunk of the remaining 5% is the Model 3, leaving very few Model S and X cars on the road. I'd be very surprised to hear that either one of them is in the top 4 best selling American made cars.

Edit: Just looked up this article of best selling cars in 2024, which includes non-American made cars.

Removing those, it looks like it's:

  1. Ford F-Series: 152,943 units sold

  2. Chevrolet Silverado: 127,563 units sold

  3. Tesla Model Y: 109,000 units sold

  4. Ram Pickup: 89,417 units sold

  5. GMC Sierra: 68,597 units sold

  6. Ford Explorer: 58,465 units sold

  7. Jeep Grand Cherokee: 54,455 units sold

  8. Chevrolet Equinox: 54,185 units sold

  9. Tesla Model 3: 42,000 units sold (Looks like my 95% number was way off)

  10. Ford Transit: 39,890 units sold

Oh gotcha, I misunderstood. Yes they are very much made in America. Seeing people complain about them and acting patriotic because they drive a Ford cracks me up.

Is Elon playing some 4D chess?

...nah he's just a massive douche.

jballs ,

Exactly. Imagine driving that around and going "your EVs are destroying our roads!"

Gonna have to save this for later. I'm continually amazed by the people that feel the need to argue about the smallest points imaginable when it comes to memes. A lot of people seem to expect memes to come with several pages of peer review and footnotes. Most of the time it's like, "Dude, I made this while taking a shit. Stop reading so much into it."

Does not loving boobs mean you're indifferent to boobs? Or like anti-boobs?

jballs ,
@jballs@sh.itjust.works avatar

That makes sense. I can't imagine anyone being anti-boobs.

    The 2021 Capitol protests also known as the J6 FBI false flag attack on the U.S. Capitol or Fedsurrection consisted of a diverse group of American patriots of different races, backgrounds, and cultures protesting the electoral college certification of the fraudulent 2020 presidential election who were entrapped by the FBI on January 6, 2021.

    I just threw up a little just visiting for 5 seconds.

    I'd probably have an audiobook going. Then when I got there, I would probably have to sit in the car for a few minutes to get to a good stopping point. I'm sure the kidnappers would understand.

    jballs ,
    @jballs@sh.itjust.works avatar

    Exactly. Arguing that you're against helping people now because it doesn't go far enough is ridiculous. Help people now. Then continue helping people. Don't let perfect be the enemy of progress.

    The key is "without losing any impact". Star Wars whiffed pretty hard on that part.

    jballs ,
    @jballs@sh.itjust.works avatar

    I've seen this headline a few times and the details are laughably bad. The only reason this can be getting any press is because the headline is good clickbait. But 40 mph top speed on approved roads in 2 states only if a car is in front of you in the daytime is entirely useless. I guess it's a good first step maybe? But trying to write headlines like this is big news is sad.

    jballs ,
    @jballs@sh.itjust.works avatar

    This article is a perfect example of linear extrapolating.. They were like "huh, when you feed people a balanced diet with proper nutrition, they get 3 or 4 inches taller. This trend will obviously continue until people are 10 feet tall in a few generations."

    jballs ,
    @jballs@sh.itjust.works avatar

    I noticed you didn't deny the bunnies and pigs running the post office or the cute fox as a mayor. So I'm just gonna say that yeah, it's mostly true.

    I've been working in my industry for 20 years now (fuck that's depressing to write). Literally every boss I've ever had but except for one has been baffled by me not wanting to climb the corporate ladder by working more hours and seeing my family less.

    The one that understood was like, "Just keep doing you, man. Don't let anyone else tell you that you have to keep moving up." I always appreciated that.

    jballs ,
    @jballs@sh.itjust.works avatar

    Maybe, but I don't think it's worth it. With a gas car, you stand idle at the pump for a few minutes making sure that nothing bursts into flames or gas doesn't overflow. Charging an EV isn't like that. They've got about 5 seconds of your time at the most.

    jballs ,
    @jballs@sh.itjust.works avatar

    Lol that would be the ultimate first world problem. Charging so fast it makes more sense to stand at the plug than go into the store to pee.

    Court Bans Use of 'AI-Enhanced' Video Evidence Because That's Not How AI Works (gizmodo.com)

    A judge in Washington state has blocked video evidence that’s been “AI-enhanced” from being submitted in a triple murder trial. And that’s a good thing, given the fact that too many people seem to think applying an AI filter can give them access to secret visual data.

    jballs ,
    @jballs@sh.itjust.works avatar

    I was wondering that exact same thing. If I take a portrait photo on my Android phone, it instantly applies a ton of filters. If I had taken a picture of two people, and then one of those people murders the other shortly afterwards, could my picture be used as evidence to show they were together just before the murder? Or would it be inadmissible because it was an AI-doctored photo?
