I never agreed to it

I take it you're one of those funny sovereign citizen types?

phoenixz ,

CPU communicates with TPM in plaintext

Because of course

phoenixz ,

It buffers every .5 seconds because it only pulls in .5 seconds. It's fucking annoying as hell. Load the entire damn video so that if my internet connection falls away for 40 seconds in the elevator and parking garage that I'm not stuck with a stopped video

phoenixz ,

So Microsoft just does the same shit they've done a hundred times before and have been penalized for a hundred times before.

Give them a few billion dollars fine.

Jail those managers that made this decision

THAT will make sure they will start behaving. If not, it's all just "please don't" and Microsoft being "suuuuurely we would never ever!"

Fuck Microsoft

phoenixz ,

Again, install Linux already and be done with this shit.

phoenixz ,

Welcome to the dark side, we have cookies (the good one, not the browser ones)

phoenixz ,

I've been running Linux KDE desktop only (mostly Ubuntu) since 2003, so well over 20 years, only reason to look at windows was either work, or family who again for the nth time had a forked up windows install

phoenixz ,

I'm still using WhatsApp as it's so so okay with privacy still (messages should be end to end encrypted),it frankly works great and intuitive and the competition is frankly "meh". The web app of whatsapp is frankly awesome though lately it's been having weird issues with Firefox, thinking I'm running v60 or something and refusing to load for about an hour,, then a reload suddenly makes it work. It's weird, but beyond that, it's awesome and I can't live without.

Signal and telegram both lack a buttload of features, signal is barely functional and has many problems with basic usage

Believe you me, I'm an open source guy. I switched to Linux 25 years ago, and 20 years ago it was my only desktop. I almost exclusively use open source software where possible, and I'll jump off telegram as soon as there is an open source version out there that can a) compete with WhatsApp in functionality and intuitively, and b) I need to be able to convince my social circle to use it.

phoenixz ,

That depends on the type of color blindness, there are different types

phoenixz ,

Everyone here will balk and biych about it and rightly so, but this will happen, unfortunately. Why? Because Ubisoft is on the path of enshittification, and most of humanity are dumb and don't care and will walk willingly like sheep to the slaughter.

phoenixz ,

Install Linux and be done with this nonsense

phoenixz ,

It's more than just "fascist journalist". Journalists report facts (at least that is what they're supposed to do), any "blah blah journalist" is just "blah blah"

Also, fuck this guy, he doesn't fear for his life, it's just a made up story so they can again shit on those they hate.

Microsoft stole my Chrome tabs, and it wants yours, too (www.theverge.com)

Last week, I turned on my PC, installed a Windows update, and rebooted to find Microsoft Edge automatically open with the Chrome tabs I was working on before the update. I don’t use Microsoft Edge regularly, and I have Google Chrome set as my default browser. Bleary-eyed at 9AM, it took me a moment to realize that Microsoft...

phoenixz ,

And again, install Linux and be done with this shit. Fuck Windows, fuck everything about Microsoft, don't use their crap

phoenixz ,

No. Install Linux and be done with the Microsoft bullshit forever

phoenixz ,

Decades? We had deep fakes for decades?

phoenixz ,

This would be so much fun to watch. They wouldn't be able to take the US army with them, US army bases would be dismantled, nukes would be removed, Mexico would be like "fuck no" and have no trade with them, and the US, being their former Union, would also give them the finger. Thousands, plug not millions of people would cross borders there to either leave or join the shit hole (because fuck the liberal US government!) causing a huge outflux of knowledge and competence and a huge influx of rednecks.

Let me be clear though: this will never happen, because the politicians calling for this know damn well that they'd be fucked. They're just riling their base with dumb but popular rhetoric.

Samsung has gone full HP since about 5-10 years ago. They used to have awesome products, now it's just bloatware crap riding on customer goodwill that they built up over decades

'Our long-term objective is to make printing a subscription' says HP CEO gunning for 2024's Worst Person of the Year award | Not satisfied with merely bricking printers, HP now wants to own them al...::It was only the other day we reported how HP has been slapped with a lawsuit in response to measures that disable its printers...

phoenixz ,

HP, yet another example of how to go from the best to the worst in a decade

phoenixz ,

His hair looks like it's cosplaying the tesla cyber truck

phoenixz ,

So you go from owning a multi media entertainment system to owning a online store front where you must buy crap that you don't need.

This is bait and switch level bullshit

phoenixz ,

So how about a Raspberry pie with jellyfin connected to your TV?

phoenixz ,

Fuck HP, that simple. it's exhibit "a" for the proof of enshittification

phoenixz ,

Later in the interview, he added: "Every time a customer buys a printer, it's an investment for us. We are investing in that customer, and if that customer doesn't print enough or doesn't use our supplies, it's a bad investment."

This makes me want to buy 10 million printers and then just sent them on fire...

phoenixz ,

It also is used as a cash cow by many startups where the IPO will get them nice bonuses, large amounts of valuable stock that they can then sell.

This is honestly what I expect from asshole apex as well

phoenixz ,

I don't need a study to know that.

I switched to DuckDuckGo years ago, never looked back

By coincidence, yesterday I had to use my Virtual windows machine to test some windows software with a a scanner (my own machine is Linux). So i go to the browser in there, search for the brand and model for the driver and lo and behold, all the results were sponsored or incorrect. Correct the browser configuration to DuckDuckGo, retry, and there is the first result!

Now I know, DuckDuckGo is now apparently just Microsoft Bing, and I hate Microsoft, but at least this works. I know that DuckDuckGo is also getting worse and I'm about to look into self hosted open source alternatives, see what that gets me....

phoenixz ,

Other search engines are better. Subjectively mostly, but to the point where I think I van almost day objectively. I used DuckDuckGo for 5 years now, and it's crazy to see the difference.

I'm a Linux user too and there it's the dame thing. I look at windows users and just wonder why people put up with all that shit while o have this super nice, legally free, stable system that doesn't fuck around with me.

It feels like people are crazy but obviously it's not that. It's just that people don't know any better. You search? That's Google. The company got their brand and logo cemented in so many people's brains that they'll never fail, no matter how bad they get

phoenixz ,

As in? For me, Google search is a joke, but Google maps and mail at least still work reasonably well.

phoenixz ,

Lol, great joke!

phoenixz ,

And who wants to use Microsoft office? Google docs, for all the evil that google does, at least just... Works nice, does what I need it to do and doesn't make every single edit a fight to the death. I've had to use Microsoft office online or whatever the hell it's called, and fuck me, what a headache

phoenixz ,

FOSS friendly company

I'm not sure what you are smoking but you're high as balls dude. If there is any company that has as it's motto "fuck and destroy open source" and as slogan "fuck everything for money", then it's Microsoft.

Microsoft paid SCO to make false claims against Linux in an attempt to destroy Linux and extort large companies away from Linux. The destroy part failed, but they got multiple large companies to steer away from Linux. Normal people would go to jail for that, Microsoft execs not so much.

phoenixz ,

Oohhh, experimental groundbreaking paradigm shifting revolutionary battery design article !

Let's see if this one isn't total bullshit like the 3646263841 ones before it!

Seriously this is getting ridiculous, I've seen these some literally 40 years ago, 99.99% is bullshit, and now I'm seeing literally over 5 new articles per week.

ITS BULLSHIT.

Call me when there is an actual battery based off peer reviewed research that has been successfully tested in production systems by at least 5 major companies. Until then, BULLSHIT.

phoenixz ,

Battery scam

I'm seeing at least 5 of these per week now, can we PLEASE stop this bullshit?

Also, batteries from radioactive elements is one of the stupider ideas that has been floated around, sounds about at the same level as the thorium powered car.

It would be so nice if tech sites could write about actual tech and not CGI bullshit dreamed up by a guy who really isn't going to scam you, he just needs a little bit of start up capital for his Ferrari.

phoenixz ,

Install Linux, be done with the Microsoft windows shit.

phoenixz ,

Yeah, they "accidentally" did it completely wrong because fuck the customers and the law.

phoenixz ,

Am i the only one left who doesn't want a snap docker Kubernetes container and just installs nextcloud in a normal way and never had any problems?

phoenixz ,

Which is why I stopped going since about 4 years ago now. One day I just went to a different mall, and never looked back

phoenixz ,

Also, one of these actually needs and uses the bed, the other one doesn't.

phoenixz OP ,

I'd think so too but this is an at-home network, were the only two there, there is nothing streaming, nothing in the way, and Netflix, for example, is a breeze.

phoenixz ,

And then they all started clapping...

Sorry but this sounds like het another one of those fantasy stories. Nice if true, but likely it didn't happen

phoenixz ,

Salaries should by law be capped at max 10 times the lowest

phoenixz ,

What is it with these commie types that they believe communism will leave everyone to become hippies who can do whatever they want and all required resources just magically arrive when they need.

It really is watching children believe in Santa Claus

phoenixz ,

Interesting tidbit: I've been watching "the big bang theory" a lot these past few weeks on my own hosted jellyfin install.

I don't use google search anywhere, I don't type tbbt anywhere. Yet, on my Android phone I have this obligatory Google news thing when I swipe left (HATE that) and all of the sudden that thing got chock full of chatgpt written TBBT articles... I don't really go there (usually end up there by accident swiping left once too many) and I don't read those articles but it really obviously switched to TBBT articles when I switched to watching TBBT.

This really kinda freaks me out and makes me wonder WTF more google is monitoring. I use a Google Chromecast, I guess google monitors that?
