I keep hearing how addictive nicotine is (7x more than heroin??), but in my experience, i never got addicted. Is there something wrong with my brain?

I never smoked two packs a day, but i spent at least 3 years smoking socially (2 or 3 smokes at work every day and then 2 or 3 smokes at the bar on the weekend). So around a pack a week.

But during that time, i could always just take a week or two off if i needed to. I always wanted a smoke (especially with a beer or coffee) but i could resist the urge, no problem.

At the end of the 3 years, i just quit cold turkey. I would keep smoking once in a while with a beer, but i never went back to regular smoking...

Do you only get addicted if you're smoking a pack a day or more?

Imagine people saying the following:
"The internet is just hype. I get too much spam emails. I hope the entire thing is a catastrophic failure."

totally anecdotal.... but i've installed debian on a bunch of different machines and i've never had to "prepare additional installation media" for any weird hardware/firmware/drivers.... i just installed the base system and connected ethernet if any non-free stuff is needed. has anyone ever come across an ethernet interface that didn't work out of the box? maybe it didn't work 100%, but at least good enough to download the proper firmware to fix?

QNAP is taiwanese and still providing software patches for my 8 year old NAS. I think they are reasonably trustworthy

So the ending to the story which i didnt feel like typing out earlier was that i loaded debian on to the macbook and it runs 2x faster now with regular security updates....

The vast majority of people will never edit a video. The vast majority would be perfectly happy doing 90% of their work in a browser on older hardware instead of chucking it in the bin

I'm not a developer, but I use AI tools at work (mostly LLMs).

You need to treat AI like a junior intern.... You give it a task, but you still need to check the output and use critical thinking. You cant just take some work from an intern, blindly incorporate it into your presentation, and then blame the intern if the work is shoddy....

AI should be a time saver for certain tasks. It cannot (currently) replace a good worker.
