I did the same for a while but then I was on Holliday in Italy and it was painful trying to get the internet fast enough to stream my media over tailscale.

So now instead, I just keep everything on a laptop running Kodi and if I'm going somewhere, the laptop goes too. No worrying about internet connectivity or bandwidth. Just content ready to go.

I get that this doesn't work for everyone's use case. But I thought I'd share anyway.

Like no. Batteries right now are the worse they will ever be again. This is the worst battery tech is gonna be for the rest of our lives. Theres already EVs with batteries that last a week, of just day to day commuter type travel. And have warranties up to 1,000,000 miles.

What's happening right now is a big shakeup because lots of people can only afford to buy these cars second hand, but people have anxiety about trusting a second hand car with this new tech. So used car sales people are bitching that it's hard to sell them. That doesn't mean they aren't selling though.
On top of that, the transition of combustion engines to batteries is causing an industry shakeup. Like there was when we went from horses to cars. When cars first became a thing, people complained about where they will get fuel for it and how long the engine lasts.

Now 100 years on, we are complaining about where we will charge these things, and how long the batteries last.

The transition to EVs is inevitable. You can say it's not happening but you are wrong.

In my opinion, relying on upgrading users automagically to an encrypted and secure protocol isn't good practice. If someone wants to use an encrypted chat, they should do so consciously. It will only cause confusion otherwise.

Do people still use SMS these days though anyway?

I would have thought iMessage, RCS and separate chat apps like Whatsapp, Signal and WeChat would have largely replaced SMS by now.

I don't mean to be disrespectful, but the main dev of Elementary OS is trans. And I think one of the devs behind Asahi Linux.

There is a slight association. Not a bad thing, there are probably more examples too. But those are the ones that immediately came to mind.

I switched to Linux in 2018 because my lovely to use MacBook stopped getting updates despite being a perfectly capable machine. It really sank in for me, how much Apple relies on planned obsolescence etc. I switched to Elementary OS and was fascinated by how it worked. That was nearly 6 years ago and now I use Linux on fucking everything.

I have come across times when I've needed Windows but I can usually just set it up in a virtual machine temporarily. However the times when I need Windows are becoming increasingly rare, thank fuck.

It's been absolutely phenomenal in the last 6 years to see how far the Linux and open source eco system has grown. My Steam Deck (Steam OS 3), Jellyfin server (Ubuntu) and even my Starlink (OpenWRT) Internet connection are all great examples of that. And I hope it continues.

I use Feeder on Android and QuiteRSS on my laptop and desktop. I use it for everything from local news and tech news, to YouTube subscriptions. It's great. Forget social media with enshitification and profit driven motives. RSS is all you need.

This new Google thing probably applies to their own proprietary messaging apps like Android messages, Hangouts and Gmail.

Glass jars with tablets that break under a bite and then foam like tooth paste with fluoride and shit. You can get them online.

It's less wasteful since the jar is reusable and doesn't contain plastic. And you don't have to go to extremes to get the last of the paste out of the container.
