I'm not so sure I'd call myself a "tankie", but I'd like a $12k new car and if it were an EV, even better. I recently paid more for a used car! Cars, like everything else, have gotten so stupidly expensive. It would have been nice to see one thing actually become more affordable because I know wages ain't gonna increase accordingly for a long time.

I know there are many varying opinions being shared at the many protests in support of the Palestinians, but I wonder if there's some appreciable nuance in the IRHA definition where one could claim they aren't saying any State of Israel is a racist endeavor, but this particular one is.

The soups and sauces come in bags which are reheated in a steam table pan filled with water, then poured into a smaller steam table pan to be spooned out as needed.

All the dessert arrive pre-made and frozen and are heated to order.

I've been playing non-incremental games a lot recently, but I found myself looking at Orb of Creation and considering another run at it.

If you haven't tried Orb of Creation, I highly recommend it, it's probably the best incremental game I've played to date. Though I'll warn that development on it has seemed to stop. Regardless, it's cheap and phenomenal, so I still recommend it.

    Biden is an absolute piece of shit and I'm still gonna cast my vote for him. That said, with the electoral systems the way they are, my vote is utterly irrelevant. I live in a deep blue state. I could vote for anyone and it would be irrelevant, the electoral college for my state might as well vote now and be done with it. There's not a snowflakes chance in hell for there to be a different outcome.

    This just isn't funny or interesting content, it's just a bitter political opinion. Furthermore, it's principled but impractical. There's no large enough voting bloc of "MAGA agents LARPing as internet leftists" to move the needle on any federal election.

    With that in mind, it violates Rule 1. There's no interpretation of this post that's attempting to be civil or kind and your vitriol and wild assumptions in the comments confirm that.

    Lastly, if this is genuinely something that bothers you, it's far more practical to address the DNC and your Democrat representatives about their messaging and platform. They have the power to affect far more hearts and minds than a self-righteous pisspost on a lemmy community.

    Ideally, I want the bedroom light to be tied to my alarm clock and slowly increase in brightness towards 8,000K over 15 min before my alarm goes off and stay like that until, say, 4ish, depending on the time of year.

    But generally, yeah, cooler Temps are nice for areas you're working and getting things done. And I think the "plain" daylight color in the kitchen is nicer for food prep in general.

    Also, if I can pick your brain a bit, off the top of your head can you suggest an out of the box system for controlling light temperature that doesn't require IOT apps or something? Ideally set on a timer, but manual is fine too.

    Seconding the suggestion of a sweet matzo brei! For what it's worth, I didn't like matzo as a kid and now I enjoy it. You're absolutely right that the egg and onion is the best.

    But children ARE picky. I played along growing up during Pesach because I thought the matzo was supposed to help me understand the suffering of the Exodus. I'd be more concerned if she didn't like latkes. On the other hand, all the more reason to make sufganiyot during Chanukah...

    Oh, and my aunt used a piece of chocolate covered matzo for the afikomen while her children were finicky. She might find that more appealing.

    My personal trick for good matzo ball soup is to roast a whole chicken with veg in a Dutch oven first, then use that same oven with the delicious chicken fat and fond to make the soup.

    Bonus points for seasoning the chicken with ras el hanout, za'atar and plenty of schmaltz, like my Mizrahi grandfather did.

    I usually skip sour cream because I prefer them fried in schmaltz, but I often do one batch in oil so I can have them with sour cream, lox, green onions and salmon roe caviar as a decadent breakfast

    If you're trying to live the mostly rice life, I strongly recommend buying some cheap pickles (I can get pickled mustard greens for .99 a bag and that bag should have about 7-12 servings worth) and chili crisp ($3.99 a jar for off brand, probably upwards of 20 servings) or anything else salty and flavorful (furikake is great for this, so is nanami togarashi).

    Canned fish is a great suggestion for value, but because of the mercury content of many fish, you should probably look into buying the cheapest chicken you can find (.99/lbs. locally) and chopping it into mince with some green onions, soy sauce and Shoaxing wine to fry and top your rice.

    Eggs are fairly cheap and help make a rice bowl great. You can also buy shelf stable tofu blocks faaaairly cheaply for some variety.

    The problem comes down to preparation.

    Traditional recipes for ruling class stem from an era when great body mass was a sign of wealth and all that fat really lent itself well to a roast, either in an oven or on a spit, to really render out all the fruits of that stolen labor (no pun intended, but cherries, plums, or my personal favorite, oranges, work great here to add a splash of color, flavor and complexity), or sliced thinly and fried with veggies that blister well, like peppers and onions.

    The modern billionaire is quite lean, demonstrating that they can afford better quality food and have the time to cater to their own health and body, a luxury they'd never afford the people who make them their money. For this, a wet cook is better. Think like a brisket. Ideal for long, slow cooker meats, with acidic and sweet vegetables. Or braised with wine and flavored with umami bombs such as anchovy, like ossobuco.

    We have fed them all for a thousand years, but one day they will feed us, so it's best to be ready!
