Or software made by Microsoft themselves!

bitwolf ,

I remember the competition on speed.
And Google publishing the response time on the results page as a way to showcase it's speed over the competitors.

bitwolf ,

I am surprised anyone with a career like his still depends on a publisher.

These large personalities, and the media world as a whole, would be so much better if they independently published.

bitwolf ,

You have potentially two or more hours added to your day for socializing.

Get lunch nearby, go to the park, do stuff in the evening.

If you're too isolated physically that speaks to urban sprawl and car dependency more than wfh imo

bitwolf ,

Do not use ldd on untrusted binaries.

I executed the backdoor the other day when assessing the damage.

objdump is the better tool to use in this case.

bitwolf ,

I get a ton of mail promotions for Fiber Internet that isn't even in my area yet.

I let myself get excited every time only to be let down.

bitwolf ,

It is kind of lame we still haven't ratified the ERA though.

bitwolf ,

You can do https Cloudflare <-> node

bitwolf ,

Oh I understand.

I was referring to the "strict" tls option which enforces that Cloudflare connect to your node via tls instead of http.

bitwolf ,

I always found the whirling noise surprising. One can clearly hear the wheels which are as loud as the speaker.

And if you're deaf neither will help.

bitwolf ,

How can they flex a networking parent on a SaaS? Doesn't that fall under some clause that's standard for doing business?

bitwolf ,

No issues with 4k on Fedora stock

bitwolf ,

Yeah the 780m on Phoenix has been buggy AF.

But the 7900xtx in my desktop has been working like a dream.

bitwolf ,

Unfortunately I understand AMDs side too. Shared memory access is hard in general. Unfortunately you have to depend on that for integrated gpus.

Kernel 6.8, aside from the GPU issues, has been great on this platform so I do still believe the 7040's will maintain the AMD tendency to age like fine wine.

bitwolf ,

Somehow it's managed to randomly toggle the DPI setting on my mouse.

It's a Sensei RAW, there is no software switch, it's all done in the mouse.

bitwolf ,

Been happy with Zitadel so far.

I usually worry about getting bit later with apps that depend on a relational database.

This is my first cockroach db app and it's not nearly as obtuse as the MySQL container image. Hopefully it continues to work smoothly.

bitwolf ,

Hypervisor framework support in Podman 5 is going to make work so much more pleasant. Very eager for the update!

bitwolf ,

I primarily use Immich as well and found albums could have a little more options.

I saw ente recently open sourced, may be worth a link.

bitwolf ,

The worst thing is when you open the sidebar. If you click too fast on a sidebar item it registers as a click on the first ad in your feed.

I report the ad as offensive every time this happens which is almost every time.

bitwolf ,

I am mostly on Lemmy now. There are still one or two niche communities still only on Reddit that I frequent.

Thankfully this list keeps shrinking as time goes on 🙂

Firefox saw an increase in users (~50% in Germany and ~30% in France) following Apple’s default browser changes in the EU, as did Brave. (www.theverge.com)

Firefox spokesperson Christopher Hilton tells The Verge that the browser has seen a more than 50 percent jump in users in Germany and a nearly 30 percent increase in France....

bitwolf ,

Historically, if you used a browser other than Safari, it was required to just be the UI, the renderer still has to be Safari.

Brute force protection

I never got that rule. Surely it is less secure to keep records of historical passwords than to let someone rotate between !!!! And #### etc

bitwolf ,

This seems ripe for workarounds.

It's not too complicated to fix a motor to your normal bicycle. I wonder how well this will implemented.

That said I'm surprised this is coming from Amsterdam, considering they're both very pro bike. And I also see very little controversy coming from the Netherlands in general (farm laws primarily)

bitwolf ,

Apple was like the third phone with a notch. That's Essential's claim actually.

bitwolf ,

Qualcomm has a pretty fast emulator for the growing pains.
Microscope offers arm versions for most of their software

But many open source projects could.be cross compiled it wouldn't be long if these things start selling.

bitwolf ,

Well decent processors, just laughably bad cooling design

Are there tools that exist to anonymize writing styles?

I feel like with the rise of AI something that anonymizes writing styles should exist. For example it could look for differences in American versus British spelling like color versus colour or contextual things like soccer versus football and make edits accordingly. ChatGPT could be fed a prompt that says "Rewrite the following...

bitwolf ,

My coworkers use chatgpt for this.
Since it always answers in the same generic ways it's helpful to anonymize their peer reviews.

bitwolf ,

They offer different sized models you don't have to use the fully fledged version

bitwolf ,

The concern here is less so OpenAI knowing, rather they worry about their coworkers identifying them.

bitwolf ,

The actual product bows at the top. Their entire back half of the truck is flat, wouldn't a lightweight hardtop would be a much better choice over tent poles across the roof?

Especially if they're going for looks.

  • It would be easier to match the angle of the open tent to that of the front of the truck. (Although even the render doesn't match it, so maybe they want the extra angle).

  • They already lose several inches in horizontal space, they could fit a metal prop in there as a redundancy to support the top.

  • Could add a large plexiglass tinted window in the hardtop.

  • It would look a lot better when closed into the bed.

bitwolf ,

Ego dream marketing

Lol for real, I was thinking just that when I watched the Charger EV commercial.

bitwolf ,

They pay for books any expensive classes.
I Boomer IT culture talent comes with money and age.

Source: Rejected several tiles for being too young to reasonably know Linux.

bitwolf ,

Does this mean we're stuck with MQA? Or can we still forcibly use FLAC. I was on the lower tier purely to avoid MQA.

bitwolf ,

You can use Plexamp as a Tidal client. I do this for offline music.
Works on desktop too 🙂

bitwolf ,

Tidal also pays artists significantly more than Spotify/ Apple Music. So they're good-shittifying in both directions 🙂

bitwolf ,

Oh yeah Spotify is definitely the worst in comparison

bitwolf ,

I really just want all these services to have reasonable family plans.

I'd gladly pay more for a subscription that lets me entire family use their accounts under one subscription.

Why even bother with multiple accounts if this will not be the case.

bitwolf ,

The great thing about self hosted is you can just download your stuff. No "you haven't been online in 3 days so you can't watch this video on the plane" nonsense.

bitwolf ,

Oooh lots of services I haven't heard of before. I got some reading to do and yaml to write 🙂

(Recylarr, autobrr, etc)

bitwolf ,

This is Apple's face falling brick my brick. The app store was just the start

bitwolf ,

Yes. Although it is limited in what you can back up afaik

bitwolf ,

Does this require a lot of gear? Or does it simply act as another gateway?

bitwolf ,

I've been predicting for a while though that siri will be turned into an AI that runs locally using the metal cores.

Especially after seeing the Rabbit R1, Google putting Tensor cores in the pixels, and hearing Apple preach about privacy.

That is a very astute observation stranger!

bitwolf ,

It's great but they are two, reported, bugs that annoy me.

First, it sometimes gets stuck half way between dark and light mode.

Second, sometimes it gets stuck starting to load a page. The webciew gets stuck but not the chrome. If you switch tabs the same page will appear. If you enter a new page it will never load.
A force close fixes it but it's annoying.

Using beta is imperative since it enables add-ons . However the bugs are also in stable.

bitwolf ,

This route does still count as a Windows sale and you still pay for the license.
So if the manufacturer offers a "no os" option, rather than any Linux option, it's still a better choice than "Windows" if you know you will reimage to something else anyway.

bitwolf ,

When I bought a Dell XPS choosing to have Linux installed discounted 100$ from the purchase.

That's significant enough to buy a case or accessory.

bitwolf ,

As does Dell, HP and Lenovo.

I can speak for Dells excellent Linux support with LVFS support and a responsive support structure.

bitwolf ,

I had those same issues on my 3080.
I switched to AMD and Kwin works great on Wayland.

I wonder. Does KWin still use the old workaround for Nvidia?

I remember gnome refusing to bend to Nvidia over eglstreams.

If Kwin is still using that workaround, even now after Nvidia conceded, maybe that is the problem.
