I disagree. Time actually stopped around early 2010's. Seasons change and shit, but stuff isn't changing no more.

datelmd5sum ,

Why is bandwidth so important? The M2 is about half as fast as a DDR4 era x86 desktop processor with half the memory bandwidth.

datelmd5sum ,

Are they going to criminalize prime factorization and elliptic curves? Or how do you prevent a group of people from encrypting their messages?

datelmd5sum ,

I have 16GB and I have to run shit I dev on local k8s. I have to close teams and my browser to get enough ram sometimes.

datelmd5sum ,

Patience mostly I think. At least with rodent they smell a trail and then just sit there for hours and hours until one walks near enough.

Roku explores taking over HDMI feeds with ads (www.lowpass.cc)

Roku is exploring ways to show consumers ads on its TVs even when they are not using its streaming platform: The company has been looking into injecting ads into the video feeds of third-party devices connected to its TVs, according to a recent patent filing.  ...

We had to listen this C-level guy give a speech how good the last couple of years have been. We've increased the price of services by 50% and the amount of useless upsell shit we push to people has gone up as well. While our wages are still the same and people are getting laid off constantly. But I need food and shit.

datelmd5sum ,

I have seen the original video like 10 times and still can't remember what she was talking about. I must be demented or something.

datelmd5sum ,

I wonder if they still even teach windows server in school these days. Back in my days 10ish years ago we had separate courses for windows server and Linux. But when I got a job all the windows server was doing was AD and now even that is either gone or on it's way out.

datelmd5sum ,

Even the choice of colour was an interesting one. "Should we make our submersible brightly coloured like every other submersible in the world? In case we are stuck floating barely above the surface of the ocean, literally bolted shut inside this tube?" "Nah, let's do white and grey, looks more modern."

datelmd5sum ,

I've heard people in the US still use SMS to communicate with eachother. Fucking crazy.

datelmd5sum ,

Can you for example send a video, encrypted and to your computer via SMS? I don't know how much tech they've built over the protocol over in the US, but in many parts of the world SMS was charged per message in your phone bill and things like photos or video cost more to send. People abandoned SMS quickly when 3rd party IP messaging apps like whatsapp came out.

datelmd5sum ,

Yeah data got unlimited here before texts, which caused people to move on to other things. Now texts are usually unlimited, but that train has already sailed.

datelmd5sum ,

The $40 watch is probably better at telling time because there's a crystal oscillating there exactly 32768 times a second, instead of some gears and springs and shit that are roughly tuned to 10 Hz by a guy with a screwdriver.

datelmd5sum ,

600€ is insane for hardware that's already two generations behind. You can get a computer with better specs for 500€ and it can also do useful stuff while having cheaper games.

At 400€ I'd consider it, since I can actually hear the noise of the PS4 from the living room and through my headphones when my wife is playing it.

datelmd5sum ,

The country that's almost as drunk, but good at hockey: Finland.

datelmd5sum ,

How about propane / butane? The gas canisters from WW2 and probably even older ones are still in use today and the fuel inside doesn't chemically degrade.

datelmd5sum ,

I once had the knowledge how you could hack a government system to get free fishing licenses. Seemed like a high risk / low reward type of deal though.

datelmd5sum ,

Linux gaming seems to be always a bit behind with driver support. Last time I tried it there was no HDR and it was a dealbreaker for me. This time I'd expect FSR snd frame gen is not at the same level they are on windows. My work laptop is still Linux, I boot to Linux on my personal computer if I'm doing my own projects. My homelab server is naturally Linux and so is my personal laptop... but I still do basically zero Linux gaming.

datelmd5sum ,

This is turning a generation of people tech illiterate. The young people I interact with are smart because they're all employed by a tech company and mentored by us dinosaurs, but I've heard some horror stories of the tech literacy of the average young person.

Touchscreen was a mistake.

datelmd5sum ,

Is there some higher level thing preventing this?

If I open a terminal on my galaxy s23 I don't see anything special with file extensions:

$ echo foo > shit.txt

$ mv shit.txt shit.mp4

$ cat shit.mp4

foo

datelmd5sum ,

As long as the non-experts somehow manage to make a living to pay for our expertise. I heard a coworker vent about her son who wants to drop out of school (assuming elementary / middle) to focus on his streaming career...

datelmd5sum ,

Your phone is measuring time by counting how many seconds has passed since 1970-01-01 00:00 UTC. Doesn't matter if you're on android or apple, the OS is based on ideas of Bell Labs people's ideas from the 1960's.

datelmd5sum ,

Don't need the Google Files for that. I can use the terminal to rename a file.

datelmd5sum ,

The strength of the right is that they'll accept anyone who isn't left.

Here the far right is constantly bickering and their political parties are steadily fissioning. There's pro Putin and anti Putin far right, vax and antivax far right, ethnonationalistic and moderate far right... sometimes it just isn't possible to agree what you hate.

datelmd5sum ,

fucking wasps cause 100x more false alarms than network issues for me. I need a neural net or something that can differentiate between a wasp and a human.

datelmd5sum ,

But I like watching things outside the trams.

Stop wearing Vision Pro goggles while driving your Tesla: U.S. transportation officials, Calif. police::Videos, many of them stunts or jokes, of people wearing Apple’s new virtual reality headset while driving Teslas in Autopilot mode prompted officials to issue warnings.

datelmd5sum ,

And VR with passthrough has been a thing at least in pro grade VR for like a decade.

datelmd5sum ,

Think of the savings if we had just two laptops with chatgpt on turning the keys in the silos!
