you have to sign out of your account before resetting the phone in order to prevent tripping the protection.
in case you trip it, you need to enter your credentials, your phone will reboot and do another wipe stage and then will jump right back to the OOBE, fully unlocked.
iirc the account is not actually saved, just verified

the only reason I'm still using Privacy Badger is the feature that hides embeeded iframe widgets until a "view" button is clicked (for example, embeeded tweets etc)

entire home tab is just ad space and can be disabled
or just upgrade to enterprise, comes with no ms 365 ads and the home tab is disabled out of the box.
you'll get literally zero ads or bs like onedrive in built-in apps, and even anti features like ms account login can be disabled (os will just skip right to local account creation)

I'm still using 8 for gaming and stuff
(i built my pc in 2021 and don't see a huge reason to upgrade it yet except modded Minecraft/skyrim)

never had issues with gnome on my laptop with 4 gbs of ddr3, actually it's pretty smooth even while running from an 8 year old 5200rpm hdd, even with all the animations and stuff enabled.
freezes a bit while loading icons in the app menu for the first time after boot but it's really usable once everything gets cached to ram.

yeah you need to mess around with snappiness to avoid that
(so either increase it to make it unload stuff to hdd earlier, leaving more ram for critical stuff, or decrease it to like 5 in order to make it only use swap when absolutely needed)
basically just mess around with it and see what value works best. i my case 10-15 works more or less okay-ish under full ram load

wanna play a game? close absolutely everything except maybe discord (if you need it), but keep it in the tray

HDMI stream live processing?

I’m getting tired of the extremely loud ads on that don’t seem to be subject to the old TV broadcasting laws that prevent them from being blasted 10db louder than the actual content. Wondering if there’s stuff out there that would let me take the hdmi stream from my Apple TV or other streaming source, and do ad detection...

administrator in windows != root, it's more like user account in sudoers file (but without password auth)
processes don't start out with admin rights under administrator accounts on windows, they still need to request the user to elevate (unless uac is off)

well, katamari specifically has some rendering issues with text but they're really minor and don't affect gameplay.
sucks that most of these use gyro tho, feels really awkward to use (left stick on any controller can be used instead but it's still not ideal) (unless you're like sitting on a toilet or sth lol, where you can comfortably hold the phone flat)

i mean there's an official android port of it and it's still being kept up to date, or is there anything wrong with it? (i see it has ads, but it doesn't really matter if you block them on like dns level)

also i haven't actually checked, but seemingly it may be bit too modern, don't think ios 3 is fully supported yet

i haven't checked for updates on one of my machines for like 7 months now. some packages are partial upgrades (hilariously, xz is currently on the backdoored version and I don't care to fix it)
the thing survived multiple 500+ package upgrades from partial upgrade state and has been running for like 2.5 years now

well i actually think it's quite a reasonable measure.

other websites would've locked you out completely if your ip is suspected of being used in a ddos attack, while reddit does provide an option to continue using the website for registered users

irrc it was pressure tested, just not stress tested.

seems like it depends on the region? my Samsung gen 5 tv with region set to Ukraine displays zero ads in the Smart Hub thingy even tho I'm logged onto my Samsung account and connected it to the internet (I'm not actually using the "smart" features tho, I'm using an hdmi feed from a Mi Box S)

i think the tv boxes are a great middle ground, like my mi box s gen1 was shipped with clean Android TV image straight from google without any bloatware...
it's basically as "bad" as any android phone (aka privacy is opt in, but it's not as bad as e.g. lg with their data collection, and it does not show any intrusive ads, since it's a clean Android build (app sidebar shows suggested apps from google play, but it's an android thing))

(they started adding bloatware like their own spyware launcher and replaced android tv dashboard with crappy ad-filled google tv one starting with android 9 update on gen1 or all gen2 software revisions though...)
