To think he combusted just from that 😔

FlihpFlorp ,

This makes me wish we had a speed of lobsters community

FlihpFlorp ,

I do not have the time nor the braincell count to mod a community

FlihpFlorp ,

Actually I do have the time, I’m just terrible at time management

FlihpFlorp ,

Same

FlihpFlorp ,

So you could tell me, the person who doesn’t even run the dishwasher, all about it

FlihpFlorp ,

I’m on voyager as well and both links opened fine in app for me

FlihpFlorp ,

So I looked it up and according to the first source I found and at the top of the page of the article

A deer’s eyes consist of more rods than cones, which is why it is able to see very clearly, even at night. However, when a car’s headlight beam falls into their eyes, the deer becomes blinded by the bright light. Until its eyes adjust to that heightened level of brightness, a deer will keep standing there, which makes it look like the deer is rooted to the spot

FlihpFlorp ,

Right!? I hate it when I turn on the bathroom light at night, can’t imagine that’s the last thing I feel (assuming the car kills me instantly) :(

FlihpFlorp ,

On a similar note, a reason why you shouldn’t respond to spam/scam texts because it basically verifies you as an active phone number. Why waste man/bot power texting numbers that may or may not exist when a majority of your texts will at least be seen by a human which will probably boost their chance

It’s why I tell my friends not to respond even tho some of their responses are really funny

Some smarter ones I see usually range between 2-7 lines of text usually written as a time sensitive question that will affect the totally real persons social or work like

One of my favorite ones was about 5 lines of text that was posed as a date

It was like “Hey Kayla it’s Mike, some short sob story about dating life, hope our first date goes well, then nonsense about dating with an address thrown in

However after the 5 lines it was in Arabic or some similar flowy characters and when I translated it continued “mikes” story about where he was from and how oh so sad his life was

Tldr totally fishing for a pity “sorry wrong number” to see if my phone number would be seen by human

FlihpFlorp ,

As a T1D I am surprised my dad hasn’t tried to make this joke

FlihpFlorp ,

Ignoring the teensy weensy fact he is an amazing father, yes you are correct

FlihpFlorp ,

I thought as much, it was just my terrible attempt at a joke

Discord: Have you lost access to your email? no worries, just regain access to it! (lemmy.world)

I would have expected them to ask me to message them, in order to resolve the issue of not having access to my old email. Instead, they assume that I still have access to it, by simply contacting my email provider!...

FlihpFlorp ,

not an SMS

OMFG YEEEEEEESSSSS I HATE THOSE
I’m not even super duper security focused I just love the idea of even a bot farm has to guess a code within a 30 second window

Meanwhile sms codes usually expire between a ten minutes and an hour, usually a half hour, but thats if at all

As much as I hate them they’re better than nothing :/

FlihpFlorp ,

I also said way less than what I was thinking but you pretty much summarized the other half of what I was thinking with people being able to get the authenticator which is in this case the message

I also just plain don’t like them

Idk why beyond the reasons I said

FlihpFlorp ,

I remember seeing a comment on here that said something along the lines of “for every dangerous or wrong response that goes public there’s probably 5, 10 or even 100 of those responses that only one person saw and may have treated as fact”

FlihpFlorp ,

It’s why I stole it

FlihpFlorp ,

What a nice original comic you made

Alternatives to Google Docs/sheets?

What are people using in place of Google docs/sheets/etc? I'm looking for a simple program that syncs with the cloud so I can access my documents on my different computers or my Android phone. I run Windows 10 (don't crucify me). I use libre office for things that can stay on one computer, but for things like school notes,...

FlihpFlorp ,

+1 for proton drive

I have the premium plan for and vpn and password manager benifits and use it for college work, game back ups, and saving and sharing unhinged video game clips with friends

I use libre office myself as well with proton drive so I can pull up all my .doc and .docx files on my iPhone (ik very privacy focused /s)

Also the other user mentioned obsidian I like it too. I use more like OneNote kind of notes for my college classes be it typed or hand written (with the Excalidraw plugin)

I set my obsidian save location to proton drive so I can hand write my notes in class then pull them up on my big monitor on my home computer

Sometimes obsidian will cause proton drive to freakout due to obsidians auto save feature (nothing bad it’ll just stop syncing) so I just pause proton, do my thing in obsidian with it saving but not syncing, then just resume the sync

Sometimes they’ll play nice together but other times not so idk¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Edit: formatting

FlihpFlorp ,

I also read it’s an easy plot

Here’s two people, it gives us an explanation to 1) why they’re in the same area, 2) already have a strong connection/know each other

There was a third point building off the relationship thing but I forgot what it was

FlihpFlorp ,

Somewhat off topic but just some trivia from a geology weather class I took

100 year flood does not mean it happens every 100 years but there’s a 1/100 chance for it to happen annually

Putting climate change aside for a second for consistency sake, you could go for 150 or 200 years without a 100 year flood or on the other side only a 5 year gap for that 100 year flood if you’re unlucky

FlihpFlorp ,

Oh 10000% it’s why I said ignoring climate change. Weather events are getting more frequent and more extreme

FlihpFlorp ,

Thanks for the input it never crossed my mind that weather (the thing that we can only predict) changes when the past data is no longer relevant

FlihpFlorp ,

This image is one of my favorite internet things ^tm

Right up there with that Facebook drawing contest of the dog

FlihpFlorp ,

YEEEEEESSSSSS

Edit: well yes that drawing but it was like some great drawing of a dog next to that

The post said “remember that the winner was chosen through number of likes”

FlihpFlorp ,

Yep that was it

FlihpFlorp ,

The computer is good at dodging without moving

It’s like how I can talk while holding my breath but only over a call

FlihpFlorp ,

I have had proton mail with premium for the VPN and password manager for a good couple months now but how good is the mail. I really only have it for like steam and few game accounts

Edit: after looking through my light post history probably been on proton for six months. Man how time flies, by my question still stands even if I haven’t used the email as much as I’d have liked to

FlihpFlorp ,

Nice. I’ve just been… what’s the word, not wary, maybe hesitant on it just because I didn’t know stuff like uptime and how quick mail came through

Don’t get me wrong I love proton i just…. I completely lost my train of thought lol

FlihpFlorp ,

Someday our children’s children children and so on will be so powerful

FlihpFlorp ,

Is revolt a client or a seperate app from discord?

FlihpFlorp ,

Oooh

I’ve just been using vencord for a couple months which is just discord with added features

Ranging from additional functionality to totally legitimate real nitro

FlihpFlorp ,

I’m no programmer by any means but “libraries imagined by ML” reminds me of that one post that goes “i just want an exe i don’t want code”

FlihpFlorp ,

Just curious, because typing Reddit in at the end of searches magically makes the exact niche result you need appear, how do you open a post in old Reddit?

FlihpFlorp ,

Oh really that easy

Someone else mentioned front ends to limit tracking and stuff so imma check that out too

FlihpFlorp ,

Other than libreddit got any recommendations for the other two?

Microsoft is once again injecting pop-up ads into Google Chrome on Windows in a bid to get people to switch to Bing (www.theverge.com)

The software giant first introduced malware-like pop-up ads last year with a prompt that appeared over the top of other apps and windows. After pausing that notification to address “unintended behavior,” the pop-ups have returned again on Windows 10 and 11....

FlihpFlorp ,

People think Linux is overly complicated, has WAY too many distributions to choose from, and there’s absolutely no tech support besides what you can find geeks arguing about on a forum.

As someone who has always used windows since troubleshooting doesn’t sound like a good time for me, you have perfectly hit the nail on the head

It’s the “I’m in this photo and I don’t like it” meme

Evangelical app 'Bless Every Home' is mapping personal information of immigrants and non-Christians in a bid to conduct door-to-door religious conversions and “prayerwalking” rituals targeting them. (newrepublic.com)

It puts a lot of features at the fingertips of the faithful, including the ability to filter whole neighborhoods by religion, ethnicity, “Hispanic country of origin,” “assimilation,” and whether there are children living in the household....

FlihpFlorp ,

Well according to his user name he’s a friend of Satan so that’s pretty cool

FlihpFlorp ,

DEgITx - The lands are waiting with a boner

FlihpFlorp ,

Are you in my walls because I JUST watched this episode

FlihpFlorp ,

I worked at a pet store that carried it for a bit and just looking in its general direction was a sensory overload
