A pack of 10 guavas is $2.37 at my grocery store in Texas. $3 for 1 is crazy

Why haven't any American brewers been able to make a solid lager? I typically get Spaten or Becks, but pretty much every American lager I try is terrible

protist ,

Another? What diseases are they spreading?

In the actual report linked in this article it says they were aware of the attack as it was happening and that they don't believe it was a state actor

I know nothing about any of this, but DDG turned this up in the first search result:

“Marrsî” means “Thank you” in Northern Michif, the language of the Northern Métis peoples of Canada.

I don't know, it sounds like it slightly redirects only the air at the margins that contacts the blower tube, which reduces turbulence. The noise reduction is due to the decreased turbulence, not a reduction in airflow. If I had to guess, the actual reduction in airflow is probably negligible, and they don't describe it in more detail because they're trying to commercialize it

protist ,

You seem really worked up about these undergrads' project

protist ,

You demanding more evidence right now and saying these students' project "is concerning" is not having a conversation about the validity of their claims, it's just being petulant. Saying, "I'll be interested to see the specs" or "I'll keep an eye out for testing data before I believe this" would convey the same thing without coming off like an asshole

protist ,

For real, a shot of vodka doesn't justify $13 for a drink, it's the rent that does that

Hide your cotton, he's looking for a home

I'm having a hard time believing that's not a troll, and the reaction you're having here, calling someone a "clown feminist," is exactly what they were trying to provoke

You, too, will be assimilated.

The Gates Foundation has been working in education for over two decades, and still is

To be fair, that article's only about one of their education initiatives, and they've had many

Are you sure this isn't just because it's in St. Louis?

The block on which the long-vacant St. Louis property sits was declared a decaying area by the St. Louis Planning Commission in 2023, the commercial real estate information news outlet mentioned.

Yeah this one's been completely vacant since 2017. This building's got lots of problems and has nothing to do with RTO policies

Dude, I've had my 40V mower for almost 8 years and it's still kicking. So incredibly easy to use. One of my batteries crapped out after about 6 years, but the other still holds a great charge, and I've collected a couple others over the years as I've added the trimmer, blower, and chainsaw from the same brand. In retrospect, my life was terrible in the before-times.

Home Depot and Lowe's charge you out the ass for tool rentals...what are you talking about

    protist ,

I guess it's easy to be cynical, but no, this is not at all orphancrushingmachine material

I think you're mistaken...they refund security deposits, but there is a separate fee that scales with how long you keep the equipment. Maybe go back and check your receipts

That last sentence stuck out to me too, a simple summary of all this mess. The other interesting part was at the end of the article, where they talk about the potential for the NHTSA requiring a recall fix for the "autopilot" feature that would be so expensive as to seriously damage the company:

The scenario there is if the government is really serious about Autopilot, and frankly, I don't remember the last time NHTSA investigated the efficacy of a recall remedy... he knows that NHTSA is insisting on a hardware fix for Autopilot and FSD," Niedermeyer said, referencing the auto safety regulator's unusual decision to apply extra scrutiny to Tesla's 2-million-car safety recall, announced last week.

With 2 million affected cars on the road, any fix that requires hardware—adding back radar, perhaps, or infrared gaze-tracking driver monitoring, wouldn't be cheap or quick to complete. "If NHTSA demands a level of remedy to problems that can't simply be done affordably... then it's a negative margin business with no way out. And that's a problem you can't just spend your way out of," Niedermeyer said.

Bro, they're talking about the blatantly terrible CG image in the article. Who are you talking to

    protist ,

There's a lot in East Austin near the Giga factory with hundreds of Cybertrucks that don't seem to be moving...

Honestly though, the size of that building is obscene. It's hard to look at it and not think vanity is playing a serious role in top-level decision-making at Tesla.

Alcohol Addiction Treatment Firm will be Banned from Disclosing Health Data for Advertising to Settle FTC Charges that It Shared Data Without Consent (www.ftc.gov)

According to the complaint, the company contradicted its privacy promises. From 2020-2022, the company allegedly disclosed users’ personal information, including their health information, to numerous third-party advertising platforms via tracking technologies, known as pixels and application programming interfaces (APIs),...

Large scale "online therapy" companies are a pox on the therapy profession. All the therapists who work for them are made contractors, they pay poorly, and the turnover is high, so the quality to the consumer is poor. Between companies like Monument and Better Help and private equity buying therapy practices left and right, access to high quality therapy is harder to get than ever.

The law reflected a carefully crafted compromise between the fast food industry and labor unions, which had been fighting over wages, benefits and legal liabilities for close to two years.

The law originated during private negotiations between unions and the industry, including the unusual step of signing confidentiality agreements.

The law applies to restaurants offering limited or no table service and which are part of a national chain with at least 60 establishments nationwide

That's the face of someone who's manic as fuck, fyi. Almost certainly she's bipolar

.avi was a video file format like .mpg back in the day when we had to download our porn one file at a time, slowly. Though in this instance I'm assuming it's a fucking stupid shorthand for "avatar."

This may be the case for some people, but way more people just have shitty sleep hygiene habits

The reality of his compensation package is a lot more nuanced. The 9 figure number is eye popping, but he's being paid less than $2 million over 2023-2024, and almost all of the rest is contingent upon a successful IPO and then reaching a set of (incredibly unrealistic) stock valuation benchmarks. Reddit's stock has to hit something like $45/share for him to see 8 figures and $90/share for him to realize the full amount.

I'm in no way defending this pay package or his shitty behavior, just pointing out that he's not just getting handed $200 million outright

    protist ,

I read it when I wrote it, I'm comparing $2M to $200M here, not to minimum wage, and not defending anyone

    protist ,

$2 million over two years is actually a pretty reasonable salary for the founder and CEO of a major company by comparison to other major companies, and is two orders of magnitude less than $200 million. Two orders of magnitude less than $2 million is $20,000, that's the scale of difference we're talking about here

I also left in June, and also got the offer. My karma was in the low 6 figures and I had been on for like 5 or 6 years. Honestly, a low bar

    protist ,

My few posts were almost exclusively in my local sub and plant identification, I never had a post crack 1000. Almost all my karma came from comments. Since I also got the offer, I'm guessing the bar was set very low

Whenever they start to blame themselves, respond by blaming the computer. Then keep on blaming the computer, no matter how many times it takes, in a calm, authoritative tone of voice.

There are still plenty new children's media options that aren't hot garbage. Bluey, Miraculous Ladybug, and Spidey and his Amazing Friends are 3 of my son's favorites, and all three have story arcs, characters with a bit of depth and moral fiber, and are in active production. There's also all the PBS Kids content that values learning and modeling emotional regulation, hell even Nickelodeon has Blaze and the Monster Machine teaching kids about basic engineering concepts.

YouTube has been poison for children for over a decade, but it's gotten progressively worse. I hesitate to judge others' parenting, but when someone sets their 4 year old in front of an iPad with unrestricted YouTube access, it really lets you know what kind of parent they are

I'm struggling to understand what you think should be different here. You're complaining about the "All" feed, but you can also view only a "Local" feed from your home instance, or "Front Page" which only includes your subscriptions. At least this is how Connect has it set up. The two alternatives seem to be either you see nothing until you subscribe to a community, meaning you have to seek them out on your own, or your app/Lemmy creates a "Default" community list, favoring some communities over others and becoming more like reddit, both of which are terrible options.

    protist ,

Trump has Narcissistic Personality Disorder first and foremost, so all the examples you listed above need to be viewed through that lens before making another diagnosis
