Would love to have a thinkpad nipple on my phone

GluWu ,

That's the clit mouse and belongs to Dell, the gigachad of enterprise hardware.

Virgin Lenovo: we make enterprise hardware, the 40 year old programmers might bump it.

Chad Dell: our hardware survives police and children

Smorty ,

Yo what, dell makes good laptops? My father had the latest XPS model (like 10 years ago) and it was meh construction and ok performance

RogueBanana ,

During college days, a lot of friends had those dell gaming laptops and they had really poor built quality and caused so many issues so guessing their lineup arent very consistent. My current work laptop is unfortunately a cheap feeling piece of shit dell but at least it seems to be sturdy or maybe my friends were just bad at keeping things safe.

jol ,

What exactly would a Think Phone be? Making phones is really hard because they are so compact.

To be fair, he is racist too!!!

And sexist, homophobic, antisemitic, the whole right wing dipshit starter pack.

Tartas1995 ,

Honestly I don't remember anything directly antisemitic from him, some of his guests were, if I remember correctly, but not directly from him. Do you happen to know an example of him being openly antisemitic? Not that it matters, he probably is in private.

Ultraviolet ,

I might be mistaking him with one of the other major grifters; the Venn diagram between racists, homophobes, transphobes, and antisemites is a circle.

Tartas1995 ,

The Venn diagram is a circle but the outspoken XYZ Venn diagram is not a circle, some are smart enough to shut the fuck up.

It's sad to see it go. As a game preservationist, being able to back up and emulate your games is so important to me. Not to mention a game like TotK can't even reach it's full potential on a retail Switch, and Yuzu allows that game to be played in 4K at 60fps if you have the computing power to drive it. Overall, it was probably the right call for Tropic Haze to give in to Nintendo now rather than battle them (as much as I didn't want to see Nintendo win this) because a court battle could have challenged emulation as we know it. A settlement avoids that for now. I don't support piracy at all, but I can't say it suprises me considering how Nintendo treats its customers and the gaming community as a whole.

pineapplelover ,

I think this was one of the first videos since their big break where I noticed poor quality. His other content after the restructuring been much better but this felt poorly researched or probably just trying to find funny Linux distros to show the audience and not for them to be daily drivers

Player2 ,

Pretty sure they explicitly stated that it was just for entertainment. Who would come out of that video genuinely thinking that they recommended you to daily drive a Justin Bieber distro?

Ephera , to Memes in I swear it doesn't get this hot in other games

Have you tried our Lord and Saviour Minetest?

It can be a bit rough around the edges, and I can't compare it to Minecraft, but my mid-range phone runs it at a stable 60 FPS without breaking a sweat.

If you install the "MineClone2" game from within Minetest, the gameplay is quite similar to Minecraft, too.

PoolloverNathan ,

It can't connect to real servers and load Java mods, can it?

crazybrain ,
@crazybrain@lemmy.spacestation14.com avatar

It's not Minecraft, so no. But I do wonder if it would be possible to make them cross-compatible somehow?

Ephera ,

Nah, definitely not the Java mods. Because Mojang never introduced a modding API, the Java mods just directly fuck around in the Java code of Minecraft itself. And that requires the Java code of Minecraft itself to be there and running.

It's more viable with Bedrock edition mods, I assume, but of course, that's much less useful...

Ephera ,

As the other guy said, it's not Minecraft, and not trying to be compatible with it, so no. There's some hacky scripts for converting Minecraft maps and texture packs, but that's about it.

Minetest does have a surprisingly active modding scene of its own, so if you're open for a different experience, I do think it deserves a look. And logging onto a Minetest server is a great way to discover lots of mods, as the client will automatically download and apply the mods from the server.

FQQD OP ,

I did, a few years ago. But I only play MC Java on PC anyways, I just like to boot up bedrock on my phone a few times a year 'cause I'm bored.

Shouldn’t use Watterson’s work. He fought long and hard against stuff like this…

paddirn ,
Catoblepas ,

Could you link to more information about this?

can ,

He's famously against all commercialization of the strip and I think he'd feel this similarly devalues it.

One source.

Catoblepas ,

That seems to be mostly about monetization and commodification, which should already be absent from shitposting.

can ,

I get that but I respect Watterson too much to assume his stance.

SpaceNoodle ,

Well somebody should pop over to Chagrin Falls and ask him

Instigate ,

I think he’d feel this similarly devalues it.

I respect Watterson too much to assume his stance.

Well… which is it? Do you respect him too much to assume his stance or are you assuming he’d feel this similarly devalues it?

can ,

I mean I don't want to assume he'd be alright with it therefore I won't use it. Nothing I said was definitive, just what I think.

samus12345 ,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

Did you mean "this" stance, maybe?

can ,

I suppose that would also have worked, but no.

Numberone ,

Here is a wiki source (insert error bars here) discussion of his stance on his work being officially licensed. He thought that use of his work outside of a comic strip would cheapen the value of the strip itself. This was frusterating as a child (who wouldn't want a fucking Hobbes plushy) but now later I can see that it was at the very least a very defensible choice. Compare how people feel about C&H vs something that was commercialized to death like Garfield. Anyway, hope it's useful.

SpaceNoodle ,

Like this specifically?

Wooki ,

Cancel culture can go die in an echo chamber

HikingVet ,

What about that comment is cancel culture?

GardenVarietyAnxiety ,

Cancel Culture, Woke, Communism... When you don't understand a lot about the modern world, you just start using words and phrases you also don't understand to mean "I dislike this"

Wooki ,

Nice straw man; no just cancel culture.

HikingVet ,

Again, what do you mean by cancel culture? The original comment was asking for people to honour Watterson's view that Calvin should not be used outside the comic. Who was being cancelled and how?

Wooki ,

Read OPs meme, then the comment above mine and try again for context. Pretty self explanatory: Meme is a “we should stop .. piece of shit” a calvin cancel x meme..

HikingVet ,

So you don't actually have an explanation. Chowder is a bigot, and people shouldn't give him a platform. You defending him is consigning his bigotry.

Also he hasn't been cancelled, nor is he likely to be.

Are you upset that people don't like him and are speaking out against him? Or is it a larger disdain about the practice of speaking out against people and calling for them to be excluded?

If it is the second one, Chowder makes his money that way, and participates in a practice you claim to disdain.

Though I think it's the first beacuse you like what he says.

GardenVarietyAnxiety ,

This isn't cancel culture though. You are proving my point.

And my last post wasn't a straw man either... It was describing people who use terms they don't understand to express their dislike of things. It's literally you. In this thread.

I mean... I guess it could be that you're knowingly misusing it just to create anger and division. But you wouldn't do that, would you? That would make -you- the problem.

TheFriar ,

I mean, not really though. He fought to keep companies from merchandizing C&H, mainly because he “wanted to keep the characters pure to every reader’s internal voice.” Basically to keep companies from turning it into a shitty profit center or bastardizing it with a cartoon, etc. I don’t think he really said anything or would have a problem with fans using the images to share stuff, y’know?

SpruceBringsteen ,

Becoming a meme format is a great way to strip all of the original context for most, just look at the point of this thread. Just because it's C+H isn't going to stop that.

Like we saw with the bumper stickers, it wasn't just the stupid Ford v Chevy thing, it was that anyone wanting to make a stupid point on their bumper sticker was lending Calvin's voice to their own stupid crusade.
