She/Her, Also @MargotRobbie

Academy Award nominated character actress, clown psychiatrist, Duchess of Bay Ridge, and plastic doll.

She is all of us, yet I’m not her, but sometimes I play her on TV.

So what will be my ending?

At least he was nominated for an Oscar this year, unlike someone else who was also in "Barbie" :(

Hence why I just pretend to be a celebrity denier, denying celebrities exist.

Nothing to see here. 🫥

Of course, that's because both of them are characters played by, you guessed it, esteemed Academy Award nominated character actress Margot Robbie.

Definitely a way better Joker than Jared Leto.

This is literally me staring at the Best Actress Award at the Oscars in 2018.

It's like I could play her in a movie or something.

Ok, let me try listing words that ends in "um" that could be (even tangentially) considered food.

  • Plum
  • Gum
  • Chum
  • Rum
  • Alum
  • Rum, again
  • Sea People

I think that's all of them.

If you don't know how shitty of a person Steven Crowder is, take a look at this video (tw: verbal abuse) of him berating his pregnant wife.

His whole thing with "Change My Mind" is him going around to college campuses and debate-lording unprepared college students, and at the first sign of losing he weasels out.

These "compressed towel tablets" are about 2cm across in diameter, and not pill sized as this picture implies, and are closer to wet wipes than actual, fluffy towels.

Still useful cleaning at music festivals though.

Being in an industry where everyone is unionized is great, the most important being that whenever there is a work issue you know exactly who to talk to for help.

Having unions should really become the norm for most industries.

The beauty of the federated platform is that you get to choose the version of the person you want to follow: would you rather follow the President Biden on Threads, or the President Biden on Femboy Breeding College? It's a multiple choice question.

Of course, it's probably best if the US government setup their own domain like mastodon.whitehouse.gov if they really cared to have an official account that they have full control over.

Also, randomly showing up in places is like, one of my thing here.

Well, duh, to make a dry martini, you are suppose to dry all the liquid ingredients in a tumble dryer first before you mix them, of course.

Why else do you think James Bond always asks for his "dry" vodka martini to be "shaken, not stirred"?

Gabe, KiwiFarm started from the forum section of CWC Wiki (in fact, the name KiwiFarms itself is a corruption of "CWC Wiki Forums"), which was hosted on MediaWiki, so "not letting KiwiFarms host their own wiki" is a ship that has long since sailed.

I really fail to see how this has more abuse potential than hosting an independent wiki on MediaWiki, even if the content they host there is... not very nice, to say the least. If anything, there is more control against abuse since they would just be defederated.

Those darn celebrities, always ruining people's fun on social media.

I wonder when one of them is going to show up on Lemmy...

MargotRobbie ,

Of course I am.

Would esteemed Academy Award nominated character actress (and producer) Margot Robbie ever lie to you on the internet?

Gabe, a couple of weeks ago, nutomic was asking for ideas on a name for his federated wiki alternative project, I put forth my suggestion that I thought was better (also because I didn't want it to be named after the bin chicken), but he told me, pretty bluntly in fact, that he is sticking with his original choice.

Am I bummed about it? Of course.

But it would be silly of me if I kept pestering him because he didn't do exactly what I want, because at the end of the day, he doesn't owe me anything.

I can make suggestions to him, but he doesn't have to take them, I'm not his manager, and I can take no as an answer. (He could have let me down a little easier though.)

From reading your blog post, I get the impression that you are venting because 1. the Lemmy devs didn't prioritize on the "improved moderation tools" that you wanted and 2. you are unhappy with the way they are running their own instance, which is kind of the point of decentralization that instances are ran independently from development.

Let me ask you a follow-up question to think about (you don't have to answer me): You are putting weight into Sublinks right now, what's to say that you wouldn't have any disagreement with jgrim about the development priorities of Sublinks?

Lastly, sorry I never did the thing that I promised you to do a few months about moderating a comm on lit cafe, been kind of stressed and irritable recently and can't really find the energy to do much creative writing. Sorry.

Here's a question: since there are no pedals on this uh... "bike", how are the wheels moving?

I choose to believe the illustration actually shows someone sitting on an exercise ball and holding another exercise ball, instead of... this.

Two of the most critical supplies that most people don't think about prepping is salt and white sugar, because they are useful for many things and they never go bad.

On sugar specifically, it's extremely useful because 1. It is a dense calorie source that will last forever and 2. you can use it to disinfect wounds in a pitch.

But of course, bunkering down is kinda dumb to begin with for an apocalyptic scenarios, because then you become sitting ducks.

I thought people use those plastic blade disposal container that has a slot on top that you throw away once it gets full nowadays.

It's not built into the wall, but the base principle still hasn't changed even after all these times.

I genuinely can't tell if the comic was added by somebody else to mock Musk's tweet, or if Musk is such a narcissistic prick with zero self awareness that he ""ironically" added this comic as part of his fellow-kids memelord act.

Truth is stranger than fiction.

For me, it's very much cyclical: when there is a project going, there are so many people counting on you that pretty much every minute counts, and the cost of mistakes is always high. It's during these times that time management skill is critical and you need people on the team who's job is to manage everybody's time and make sure things gets done, but even with that, the long hours are unavoidable. I don't think it's something to brag about, it's the nature of the job.

But when there is no project going, it feels like there is really not much to do all day, sometimes even the task of finding things to do is a struggle, so you do whatever you want until the next project starts.

Lemmy's biggest competitor at this point isn't reddit, it's Discord, or rather, the monster it has become. It seems to me that instead of creating a subreddit nowadays, every project now wants to use a Discord server for everything.

The problem with that is:

  1. Asking messages in a big, open chatroom (over, say, 20 people) gets real messy, real quickly.
  2. Conversations on Discord are difficult to follow when multiple of them are going at once.
  3. The conversations containing solutions to problems in chat or threads are not search indexable, which is the reason why reddit became quietly dominant in search results, it is simply the biggest centralized repository of organized English language text conversations available.

So why do people insist on using Discord servers to build their community? Simple, it's the network effect. If somebody wants tech support, it's way easier to click a Discord invite on an account for group chat you already have than it is to sign up for yet another forum that you only use once. But Lemmy doesn't suffer from that problem of traditional forums because of federation.

Which brings me to my point, if Lemmy is to grow, it's better to sell Lemmy to disgruntled Discord admins and forum owners to move their community than it is to get people to move off reddit at this point, since people who wants to leave reddit has all done so at this point.

Instagram had slowly morphed from a website to share artsy filtered cell photos to an advertisement platform, where people are turning themselves into characters living the perfectly imperfect life on social media, in an attempt to turn themselves into living advertisements, to buy and sell products, Every photo (especially the natural looking ones) is carefully shot, curated and edited by a team to imitate authenticity, no different than shooting a movie or a TV show.

So then, what happens if that role of a living advertisment can automated by machines, equally as heartless and unrealistic as these performance of perfect daily lives on Instagram? Why go through the efforts, the hours and manpower, to conduct the photoshoots and Photoshops for that one perfectly imperfect targeted post, when anyone with a modern GPU can effortlessly make thousands of machine generated pictures with way less work in the same timeframe?

Why should the role of "social media influencer" even exist then?

I've been unhappy about the state of social media for a long time now. But as it appears, the role of the social media influencer, as the lowest common denominator of photography, will be the first to be rendered redundant by AI automation, which brings me hope that in time, social media can be brought back to what originally was: a place for people to talk to people.
